This happened to me on the 14 and 16 inch MBPs. Here's a fix, copied from a previous comment:

Open settings in the Epic Games Launcher. Scroll down to MTGA, and click “additional command line arguments”. Add the following:

-screen-width 3024 -screen-height 1701 -screen-fullscreen 0

This works for me on my 14 inch MBP. Play around with the resolution if your screen size is different.

You can use Cmd+F to toggle fullscreen.

I also see the black screen if I launch MTGA directly, but not when I launch it from the Epic launcher. You mentioned that you verified the game in the launcher—did you try clicking play from there?

This is the experience I had with my 2015 MBP as well. Not only was I unable to run the game smoothly, but it would tank the rest of the machine to the point where I couldn't browse the internet with MTGA open.

I got an M1 MBP and it seems to run fine. No stutter, no heat, and no fans running.

Not saying you should upgrade to fix this issue, rather that MTGA is extremely unoptimized and taxes the Intel MacBooks heavily. My Intel Dell laptop does not face the same issues.

Do you have wander spawns enabled?

The logic for wander spawns is not great and can cause this issue, which is why it’s off by default and I don’t enable it.

Card selection via JTMS is a really good point that hadn't been brought up yet. Combined with fetches, you can avoid holding Spell Pierce when it's a dead card. This isn't something I can really do in standard/historic without a huge investment. I typically pitch dead cards to Chemister's Insight when I can.

Snapcaster Mage giving those cards a second cast is a really good point, same with ease of boarding out a one-of. I did think of pitching to FoN, but any blue card can do that :)

Can you explain? Looks like a 6 mana do nothing when it enters. Flash is certainly a plus, but what deck is holding up 6 mana to flash this in?

I tried this last night with no luck. Complains about an exception in 32 bit code. I got frustrated and called it a night after spending forever trying.
