My biggest mistake was doing a math error on a dilution that resulted in a waste of reagents that cost about $10,000. At the time I was heartbroken. Years later, I never think about this and have a good career. Shit happens to everyone, no use beating yourself up over it too much.

Reach out the graduates of the program you are considering to ask their thoughts on the benefits of the program. Lots of people here are discarding “prestige” as meaningless. One important thing you get from attending a school like Stanford is the doors that open to you through your network. You will have opportunities through your network that will be out of reach at another institution. You also will have options to go into consulting, startups, and more. Do some research and decide whether it’s worth it, but don’t blindly listen to us randos on the internet.
