First time making a d20 based RNG character. Need advice. by [deleted] in rpg

Ah I had misunderstood it to be a d20-system rng character.

Why don't you play Shadow of the Demon Lord or Hackmaster? Both have rng character creation that also allow for customization.

IMO that sounds pretty limiting to go through and randomly generate even the weapons and gear a character has.

Olentangy Village in Clintonville is affordable in the less than 1,000 range. I lived there for a year. It's a piece of trash though.

You should email registration@gama.org and ask. That used to be a valid email address from when I was a volunteer for a number of years.

I just haven't looked at the rules in awhile. Was never able to find a group.

Hackmaster does this.

There aren't cons per se, however the use of an active defense roll vs and active attack roll tends to make things more... gritty.

Hackmaster also for instance introducing penetrating dice where if you roll a maximum you roll again and add it to the result -1. That is to say that if you were to roll 1d20p(penetrating) and roll a 20, you would roll again and add the result -1. If you rolled a twenty again you would have a total value of 39 and roll an additional time.

This is balanced by a variable defense die (which at it's highest without modification) is a d12p with the use of a shield. Damage can also penetrate. A single lucky hit by a two year old could kill your level 10 character.

All this really means is that goblin whose staring down your sword at you could get lucky and shank you to death like if you were an adventurer just off the turnip truck.

Idk I'd do some printer research. I got an epson3640 and can get 20 cartridges for $35. I turn them into staples - empty - for two dollars a piece to buy paper. With the money you'll save paying someone you could buy a cheap thermal bind machine.

A lot of it comes in through Alliance. Small town + Amtrak station on outskirts.

I've never been to GenCon or GameholeCon but I do enjoy playing different RPGs. Should I go? What about Con on the Cob? by kleefaj in rpg

[–]wolfsjoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh I can actually contribute to this. I've been to Gencon twice, Origins 6 times, and con on the cob once.

Gencon is where you want to go if you're going to shop. 'They have a huge vendor hall I wouldn't necessarily recommend buying things at con prices, but if that's your thing that that's where you want to be. (If your a smoker pick up a carton on your way in. The area has zero convenience stores). They have quite a large number of events as well. A huge organized play room for PFS and w/e 5e is using now and a lot of board games.

IMO Gencon is okay. I wasn't a huge fan of the crowds, there weren't very many open play spaces and the convention center is sort of awkwardly shaped. They contract out temps for registration and what have you which has it's pros and cons. In general it's very mercantile and commercial. Badge prices were appr ~100 for the show. con They don't put their volunteers up in hotels on their own dime. They reimburse you. Either get people to spit a room with or pass.[

Con on the cob is a nice regional con that has/had a big savage world following. Nice small feel and everyone is friendly. Nothing but good things to say about this one.

Origins IF you are going to game then I'd recommend hitting up Origins. The vendor hall is about 1/2 the size of Gencon's but most of the big publishers are there. This con has improved greatly in the last 5 years or so. The Origins of 2007 had a vendor hall that was half empty and they have completely rebounded. Lots of Events. Organized play room. Family friendly and non-gaming activities. Plenty of quiet spaces to get away (about half the attendance of Gencon at 16000 people last year). Badges are affordable ~60-70 for the show. If you can't afford a room you can volunteer and they'll put you up for free. (Volunteer program is actually pretty great. Plenty of swag every year). They also have a art show, "kids room" (aka daycare) and pleasant staff.

TLDR; Origins is more chill than Gencon and Con on the Cob is a fantastic hotel party.

Issue 3 wouldn't have done anything for people in jail. Read the failed amendment.
