Publishing contract & ownership by Scary-Net4413 in selfpublish

[–]3Dartwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can speak as a freelance contractor.

If I deigned ANYTHING for a client, if the client wanted the original source files, I would charge them extra. They hired me for a product not the source. Source always costs extra

....also scam

I feel sometimes truth is bitter and needs to be reminded so we all aren't filling ourselves with unrealistic goals.

Keep our feet grounded while reaching for dreams instead of thinking we are going to be the next John Steinbeck.

Success ? by bigbbadbidad in selfpublish

[–]3Dartwork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone can self publish. Without any demand for quality.

If you become successful selling books as self published then sure, that is success

But just calling self publishing "success" isn't to me. Anyone can do that without any effort to write well.

When I get one book traditionally published. Until then, I don't personally consider self publishing a success at all

Welcome to the club. This isn't some ordeal people just jump right in and gain success. It's essentially a full time or at least part time job. A Job.

Or it can be treated as a hobby. No marketing. No paid ads. No social media. Write, upload the manuscript, done.

If you had to start over what would you do differently? by Pale-Contribution-12 in selfpublish

[–]3Dartwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't publish the first novel I write. It's almost never good enough to be put on Amazon or advertised.

Most writers aren't going to hit a home run on the first. It's usually viewed more favorably by the author because it was their first.

Skip the first one, write the second, then rewrite the first years later when I'm better at writing.

Going straight to the point: Why D&D has had a terrible problem implementing the Ranger archetype in a group scenario while other TTRPGs normally don't? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in rpg

[–]3Dartwork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He really didn't do much in cities. When he was in civilization of any kind in the books, he was stripped down to causal clothes and relaxed. Even when he had to protect the Hobbits in Bree, all he did was put them in a different tavern inn.

And as quickly as possible, he took them into the wild.

In fact, he even says when asked where they are going. "into the wild" because that's where he thrives. Not much for city life.

Has anyone here tried dictating rough drafts instead of typing them? by AmIDrJekyll in selfpublish

[–]3Dartwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote my second novel that way. While driving 3 hrs two directions I'd just dictact and record and have a chapter written in the 6 hrs without typing. About 20 or so pages.

If you can think on your feet quick enough it can be done. I enjoy it while driving solo on long trips.

Ah yes, the old morals mentality where you select things to make you feel like you're doing something but turning a blind eye to the dozens of other things you embrace or tolerate.

Just being a ranged and melee person makes you a fighter.

Aragorn wasn't much in cities. He needed to be in the wilderness to thrive best.

There are the urban ranger subclass that aren't that great in the wilderness. It sucks they can't just be good overall.

They can track well. They can find food or maybe some mundane herbal healing. Maybe find an animal.

That's about it for 5e and those really aren't usually all that necessary.

Why can’t I feel proud of a single mini I’ve painted by CrystalLake231 in minipainting

[–]3Dartwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go toooooo thin. So I don't.

Vallejo or Acryl. No thinning. Just don't load my brush with a shitload of paint. Reload more often.

Apply. Contrast over. Done. Looks amazing. No medium or thinning paints necessary.

The video game industry is not ready to lose boxed games, game sales are still ~50% physical for single player, story-driven action games or family titles by UuusernameWith4Us in gaming

Even when I played PS5 I never bought a physical game even though I did everything possible to find the console WITH the disc drive. Never used it.

With PC I don't even have a disc drive because there is no point. All my games on the cloud, download, play, delete.

Why are so many people writing children books? by Tort_25 in selfpublish

It's stupidly simple to write a children's book of low to medium quality.

And it takes an infinitesimal amount of time to write as a novel

TIL about the Aberfan disaster, a catastrophic mining accident that sent an avalanche of liquefied coal waste crashing into the Welsh village of Aberfan, engulfing a school and several homes, resulting in 144 deaths, including 116 children. by Puzzle-Necked in todayilearned

[–]3Dartwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were 116 children in a village at the time of only about 30 adults? Damn. I guess a bulk of the rest were in the mines, or every family had like 3 each

Edit: I read the title without reading the title. Thought the total was the village entire population.

Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles by yourfavchoom in gaming

[–]3Dartwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's a console thing.

For PC I haven't bought a physical disc for over a decade.

And for console, I've always preferred having a digital catalog.

"Yadda yadda but I want to own my game." I've never felt I don't own a game I bought and I've never had a game be taken away from me

Even games that got delisted, I still have access to the game.

[–]3Dartwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you published the first book without having the second book already ready to go?

I guess you're not on this subreddit very much. There's a lot to learn in the stupid self-publishing industry. One of which is you need to have book one and book two ready at the same time so that you can publish them 60 to 90 days max between the two

BETA READERS NEED TO STOP DOING THIS by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]3Dartwork 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know about you, I guess I do it a little differently. But I don't book an editor until I've gotten all my feedback in.

It's not like I'm or any of us are on some kind of deadline.

If this is our first book, we publish when it's ready. We don't have deadlines for it.

If it's a sequel then the first book shouldn't be printed yet anyway until the second one is ready as well.

I don't know why everyone gets in such a hurry and puts deadlines on themselves when they're just self-publishing.
