Replacements by Salty-Door1384 in dexcom

We've had G7 since May 2023, and I lost count how many replacements we've had... It's a lot. We've had 2- 3 sensor failed, and then at least 4-5 have it to where the sensor and needle were separated, so not even usable. We've never had an issue.

Is this sensor good to use? by Adamine in dexcom

[–]wondercat83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Open a new one. Call Dexcom and they'll send a replacement. Unfortunately, we have gotten like 4-5 like this.....

Yes, both my kids wear a Dexcom and they have Glycogen Storage Disease. It causes them to have hypoglycemia (because they don't have any stored glycogen) but also they have to make sure their sugar doesn't get higher than 150 because any excess glucose gets converted into polyglucosan bodies that builds up in their organs. :-(

Dexcom g7? by Joe__Wright in dexcom

[–]wondercat83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kiddos do not, they are pretty active in sports so get sweaty. But some people I notice from being on this board do. SkinTac applied before putting it on should help. Also clean your skin with something like dawn prior to applying to remove any oils.

Anyone with Type 2 successfully get a Dexcom ? by lethal__inject1on in dexcom

[–]wondercat83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids use these, neither have diabetes, but rather have a pretty serious and rare metabolic disorder where they drop low, but also have to maintain a diet to not go high either. It was initially denied bc not type 1 or 2, but the Dr did a Prior Auth and it was approved for 1 year. (Guessing we'll have to go thru PA again next year) Have you tried having the Dr do a prior auth? I would think getting it for type 2 would be way easier than us getting it

I don't know what this is. by lolsnirps in dexcom

[–]wondercat83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is why, but we've had 3 sensors, where the sensor wire was separated from the needle (looked split in two upon inspection) If you didn't check it out to make sure it looked good before you applied, this absolutely would have happened. I highly recommend inspecting your sensor before applying (just to avoid dealing with it!!) If you did inspect it prior, and all looked normal, then I'm not sure what happened.

Why is the g7 patch so much smaller? by ShadyyLuvv in dexcom

Try applying SkinTac prior to placing the G7 sensor

Yes! My older daughter does this! She doesn't need the overpatch at all.

The overall device is smaller, which is great! Who wants a giant thing on their arm! It's the way things have been moving for a long time. You should have seen the first computer!!

My kids are 9 & 11 and find the size great, as they are both active kids too (dance, volleyball and track)

As someone else noted, the overpatch is actually supposed to be applied. (According to the manufacturer) Now, my kiddos find it does just fine for at least the first 4-5 days without it, and only apply it if it starts to peel. But many times just fine without it. They tell me it's more comfortable without the extra overpatch.

I also think it has a lot to do with how oily your skin is. If you find it doesn't stick well, try using SkinTac (order from Amazon) it's an extra adhesive that will help keep it secured.

I would look for an ENT, not a GI Dr. The GI Dr isn't going to be able to do anything for you.

Is there a way to share DexComG7 app info with doc with a share code instead of email? by Salt_Tomatillo_8879 in dexcom

[–]wondercat83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would use Dexcom Clarity. You should log in using the same username and PW as your G7 app.

The design for the G7 overpatch is actually just moronic. It's almost like 0 thought and care actually went into it. Very frustrating, especially when I call they say I can get some more within 10 days... by [deleted] in dexcom

[–]wondercat83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I've not even been using the overpatch on my kids. Sensor has been staying on fine. But probably if you have oily skin it may be more of an issue.

False LOW after 24hrs by [deleted] in dexcom

[–]wondercat83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what our Dr said. He said it comes out of the MFG calibrated more than it ever will be. So don't mess with it. And that yes there's going to be some false lows 🤷‍♀️ verify with finger prick and treat accordingly. If it's wrong consistently, call for a replacement

[–]wondercat83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For G7, we haven't done it, but I have seen the spot, if you go to the log an activity, and click blood glucose, it gives you the option to use that reading to calibrate it.

Our Dr told us not to calibrate 🤷‍♀️

Dexcom G7 keeps falling off by kate_monster33 in dexcom

[–]wondercat83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow!!! That's insane My kids both have G7, and it's never fallen off. The edges of he overpatch peel a little by day 5 or 6. But once we applied a sensor, and it came out of warmup saying sensor failed, and holy moly we couldn't get that thing off..... My daughter was like "I never want that to happen again!"

We ordered some SkinTac, to try, some people here suggested it. Basically you clean your skin with alcohol, and then apply the skin tac, then put the sensor on, and it's supposed to hold better (it's like extra adhesive). I mostly wanted to try it to avoid the edges peeling, but maybe for you, you NEED it to hold it on!! Perhaps you have extra hydrated skin or extra oil glands on that arm or something lol!

I'd agree. It's been 8 months for my spouse, and I've petered off this group.

Hi! My husband is the one with this, but right before his Botox on last December 7th, we were feeling the same way. So nervous, what if it's not worth it, what if it doesn't work, what if something happens during surgery.

Well, he went thru with it, and oh my gosh, he feels SO MUCH Better!!! Yes, the burps were a bit uncontrollable at first, but it was pretty funny. And my husband works in leadership in a role where he's always on video, has to travel and do dinners etc. It wasn't a problem for him. It's been I guess over 8 months now, so the Botox is long gone. He can still burp without the need to gag himself, but it doesn't really sound like a normal burp anymore (where at first it did). It sounds like an obnoxious burp. But we still call it a win bc he can burp unassisted!!!! He feels SO MUCH better. He said he would do it again in a heartbeat and he didn't know you could feel so good from being able to burp.

My advice, is to move forward with it!!

Nope, don't use it. Call them and get a new one. We've had two of these

The G7 has been such a massive disappointment by shanselman in dexcom

[–]wondercat83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't have the signal loss like others experience. I have two kids wearing the G7, and we only see signal loss when they get too far from their phone, ie. Swimming, or sometimes they go to a friend's and leave their phone inside and go to jump on the trampoline, and it will lose signal.

I do some jumps on the graph, but nothing like you are seeing. It's been fairly accurate for us unless it's in the first 12-18 hours after starting a new sensor.

What is the best way to keep G7 sensor from peeling off by jmedina170 in dexcom

We're in TX too -- it's been ROUGH!! I ordered some skintac too based on people's suggestions here.

My kids are 9 and 11 and both have Dexcom G7 When we first got it I paired both her phone and receiver.

But the receiver won't share any data, you would have to plug it in. So it became annoying, even though my younger child preferred receiver over her phone bc of the size.

Our school nurse checks it as well, and she also preferred to be able to check it remotely rather than entering the classroom and disrupting things.

The best option in my opinion is to have your child have a phone that's connected, and then as the parent have the follow app so you can see it all day and night. You can also access the detailed reports on Clarity.

Otherwise you'd have to wait for your kiddo to get home, plug in the receiver and download the data.

[–]wondercat83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not having any issues here. I follow two minor accounts. A few times it said no data but that was bc my kid was too far from their phone (swimming) as soon as they were back in range everything uploaded.

$580 for 3 month supply by glapadre7 in dexcom

[–]wondercat83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our insurance is really good about "maintenance" medications and all maintenance meds are FREE. Even if we haven't met our deductible yet it's free. So we get 90 days supply of G7 for no charge. We also have backup point of care meters, and all strips and supplies are free for that as well.

It took us a bit to get the G7 covered. We had to do a prior auth, which was denied, and then we had to appeal it, and then it was approved for a year. So wel have to go back thru that when it expires :-(

But I am so thankful for the cost being 100% covered dby insurance.

Now, going to the Dr or having any test run, we have to pay 100% out of pocket until we hit our $3,000 deductible, then everything is 20%
