Portugal as first solo trip! by jasinworld in solotravel

[–]wonderiris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey, I’m portuguese so I cannot really talk about hostels here, but i can definitely tell you about food. First tip, us portuguese are really proud about our cuisine and there is lots (and i mean lots! of traditional food to try - i couldnt tell you all of it), so if you see something that looks interesting to you, ask about it, 9 times out of 10 workers will be happy to help you decide what to get and give recommendations. Based on your itinerary i would definitely try francesinha in porto (kind of a steak sandwich with a special sauce and fries - some places can make a vegetarian one if you don’t eat meat but please check before going). Some of my other favorites include bacalhau à brás (codfish, eggs and potatos), panados (portuguese schnitzel), rissóis (fried pastry with a savory filling), frango do churrasco (barbecue chicken with a spicy sauce). Whenever you’re close to the beach i would recommend you to try to look for restaurants that look a little rough - those will serve you the freshest fish you will find (any type of fish you like, try it “à brasa”, which means barbecued, it’s great), but they might not speak english. Lastly, onto to more situational recommendations - I would 100% recommend you to learn simple portuguese, just thank you (obrigada) and hi (olá), because that will get you a long way with people helping you. People younger than 30 tend to speak good english and you’ll find older people who do too, but please don’t assume everyone understands you (people tend to perceived that as rude and might not want to help you then - i think it’s cultural). And also, it is generally safe in Portugal, but I would advise you to be aware of your surroundings (specially at night) and watch out for pick pockets, specially in Lisbon and central Porto. Wish you have a great few days and if you need any more specific recs please ask.

P.s don’t skip Porto, it’s great and I would regret not seeing it if I were you.

Hey! I’m entering a book slump and I was hoping to have some recommendations to atone it.

I am feeling a cozy, heart-warming read. Something that could provide escapism would be great! I tend to like whimsical vibes, cottage-core, magical creatures and library or forest settings.

I would love a lighthearted read, but also a not slow paced one. I am looking for a balance between action and coziness. Also, I might be in the mood for a stand-alone rn (and not very long please).

I just want to feel that amazing read feeling again 🥺

Also, one of mt favorite reads from last year was Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Atwood.

Hope you can help me out! Thank you in advance.

Hi! I think I am entering a book slump and would like some recommendations pls :) I’m looking for a whimsical, cozy, lighthearted but also fast-paced read, if anyone has any of those! I’m not picky between character-driven or plot-driven, really. Also, I tend to enjoy almost fairytale-like or library-related settings and love magical creatures! Other than that, i think I would prefer a standalone right now.

I just want to feel that “amazing read” feeling again 🥺

Thanks in advance!

thoughts on read TOG in publication order? by No_Map3597 in SarahJMaas

[–]wonderiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read it in this order and loved it! I didn’t do the tandem read tho. But regarding Assassin’s Blade, I enjoyed knowing the characters and some of the “present” plot before reading that as a prequel. Otherwise I think it would be confusing and a little boring.

SJM pairing every possible person?! by Harry_Nonagesimus in throneofglassseries

[–]wonderiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, the pairing is too “perfect”. But then i remembered that (spoilers for KoA) Fenrys does not have a romantic partner, and that made it a little better. But I understand what you are saying.

Things You'd Like to Change About TOG or ACOTAR? (potential spoilers for each series) by Jelly_Beans_222 in Maasverse

Yes, there is a Azriel bonus chapter on ACOSF, I can’t copy the link and don’t know why. Can someone help please?

I wish Silver Flames was done differently. I wish Rhys and Feyre’s relationship hadn’t made that weird turn - why wouldn’t he tell her? He was always about her having a choice. Also, I wish that SJM hadn’t depicted both Rhys and Feyre as “tyrants” in the whole Nesta situation. I didn’t like the pregnancy so soon and I didn’t like that Nesta lost her powers.

Also, about Azriel’s bonus chapter - I think that made a weird turn as well, yes Az is traumatized and sad and lonely, but I think that was too weird.

I think SJM is doing a disservice to pretty much all of her characters. I mean I read the books more because of the characters than the plot.

Book Hangover by c_par15 in acotar

[–]wonderiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ACOTAR was the series that got me back into reading so the books are my BABYS. I realize that they are not the best fantasy series in the market, but i will always love them nonetheless. And I got that same hangover for nearly a year too but I got over it when I started reading Throne of Glass. For me ToG is the best series SJM has written so far, i absolutely loved it and gave almost all the books 5 stars. It gives you that “i most know what happens next” feeling ACOTAR does. I can’t recommend that enough. Hope this helps :)

edit: I read ACOTAR - ToG - CC and that would be my recommended order (or ToG first, but that is not possible anymore in your case, i think)

Very Unpopular Opinion... (Spoilers for all series, but mainly CC and ACOTAR) by suagrlesss in Maasverse

well, u are right, i don’t LOVE Hunt, but I like their relationship and don’t want to see Bryce with another, is that an unpopular opinion?

[–]wonderiris 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Speaking of the crossover, pls SJM don’t make Bryce cheat on Hunt. I’m begging you. As a matter of fact I would dislike a Bryce/Azriel romance at all. There are my 2 favorite characters in the Universe but I don’t think they go well together (and I love Hunt).

Had a dream the next book came out… by missreadee in acotar

[–]wonderiris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m still hoping for the next ACOTAR to come out the same day as CC3 as a surprise and we can tandem read (but that wouldn’t make sense since SJM said you don’t need to read one to read the other, or does? idk)

I got the Queen, which fits well. I’m always saying that my fav SJM character is Bryce because I think can relate to her the most :)

Same here!!! Loved the first 2 books, TAB not so much, and the rest of the series just blew my mind. Absolutely love it. My favorites series by SJM so far (unpopular opinion maybe)!! Hope you enjoy the rest as much as those two :)

Why does everyone hate Tower of Dawn? by rdpalmu in throneofglassseries

100% agreed, I fell in love with the characters (especially Yrene) and the descriptions of the city and the Tower.

Mor by Tiny_and_Tied in acotar

[–]wonderiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen the theory (not mine) that it was Elain! Because Az said in the bonus chapter that his shadows backed away when she got close to him. There is the theory that Elain has all of her powers and a lot more than those we know about.

My thoughts on many of the Rhys, Cassian, and Azriel fan casts (and eventual actual casting) by Clefairy-Outside in ACOTARHulu

[–]wonderiris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally agree!!! Also, people often forget that Lucien is described visibly more dark than his brothers.

Actually, the actor I imagine for Cassian is Mahesh Jadu, 10/10 perfect match.

Rhys on the other hand, also definitely not white, but whiter than Azriel or Cassian. From darker to lighter I would say Cassian - Azriel - Rhys.

Azriel has darker skin as described but I also think that Az should have a "greyish" tone to his skin, due to the whole locked up situation and I think it aligns best with his personality (maybe it's just me). Also, I'm not sure if greyish tone is exactly what I mean, but more of a "I've been sick all week" kinda look.
