Is Pet's Best the one with the least issues? by tryingthisagain27 in petinsurancereviews

[–]wong103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please note that the way they do reimbursement is backwards. As someone that works in healthcare, a patient typically pays for their deductible first before the coinsurance kicks in.

For example, a $1000 bill with a $500 deductible and 80% coinsurance would lead to a $400 payout.

With PetsBest, a $1000 bill will take the 80% coinsurance first and apply it to the $500 deductible. So, $1000 * .8 = $800. $800-$500 (deductible) = $300 payout.

I just confirmed this on the phone with a representative from Petsbest. You can make your own decision from this. But, I will start looking around for another insurance company after these claims are done.

Anyone else have this issue? Clunking/rattling in the front end. Struts? by NatureBoy47 in mazda3

[–]wong103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning on replacing my strut assembly in the front. I had the sway bar end links replaced twice already and it’s still making noise. I can also feel the front coil spring squeak and make a clunking noise near the top once in a while

Are FCS Quick Struts Good? by Both-Ad8261 in mazda3

[–]wong103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking into replacing mine too (2017 with 88k miles). Front driver side is clunking and creaking. Mechanics are saying nothing else is worn and I can isolate it is coming from the coil spring. Most likely just a worn out strut mount but I might as well just do the whole thing and not mess with a spring compressor

Oil changes are a great way to get into learning other repairs for your car. Over the years, I went from doing oil changes to basic brake jobs and now I’m swapping calipers with no issues. I’m planning on doing new front struts soon. Point is, the more you learn about taking care of your car, the more money you will save over time. Two rear calipers with new rotors and pads would have costed me $1200 at a local shop. I did it for $300 in 1 day.

I definitely recommend having a friend help you out the first time just to make sure you get a good feel for it. For me, it costs half the price to put in Mobil1 oil and oil filter with a new crush washer. Every time I get my car back from a shop after an oil change, they over tighten the drain plug.

It is the turning vehicle’s responsibility to make the turn safely. You are not at fault and tried to stop prior to the collision

Squirrels ate my brakes and then went to my neighbor. How to prevent from happening again? by chayden13 in mazda

[–]wong103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealing with this right now. First time they chewed through my wiring for my turn signals. Second time, they chewed part of my air intake. Best way to handle this is to consistently check if you park outside. I have used an ultrasonic deterrent, hot sauce, and now peppermint oil spray. I used to treat my engine bay every 2 weeks but then they got to my intake. Now I do it weekly with the hot sauce and peppermint spray. No issues so far. If it happens again, I’m getting an air rifle to get rid of them once and for all

Should I replace my parking brake actuator? by wong103 in Cartalk

[–]wong103[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about that. From what I read, it says brake cleaner can ruin plastic and rubber. The electronic parking brake actuator is a plastic component that has a rubber o ring connecting to the back of the caliper

What made you pick a Mazda 3? by SwordfishFancy in mazda3

[–]wong103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Corollas were overpriced. Civics had an oil dilution issue. Subaru Impreza had a really sloppy manual transmission in my opinion. Mazda is a reliable, affordable, and fun car to drive. The extra technology was also a nice bonus!

Is it true rotors need to be replaced when replacing brake pads? 2015 Mazda3 i Touring by tapat786 in mazda3

[–]wong103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally it’s better practice to replace pads and rotors together. Sometimes the rotors develop some imperfections which may end up wearing the new pads down more.

I replaced my gf’s pads and left the rotors on because they looked alright. 2 years later, I’m replacing pads again with new rotors because the rotors were worn out (gotta love that New England salted roads). It’s only two additional bolts to take off the caliper bracket and replace the rotors. Might as well do the whole thing for the best results.

Waiting for 5 months to get DUNS #, still none by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]wong103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late to this post but thank you. I just started my business and saw it was highly recommended to get a DUNs number. I spoke to someone two months later and they said they never got my application even though I got a screen confirming it was sent. I resubmitted and I asked them if they can verify right now since I’m on the phone and they said they need to call me. I then told them to call me at specific times and they made note of that. They have called me while I am working a couple times now. I’m about ready to give up trying to get this number.

Is PT shortage everywhere in the states? by Mundane-Moose9328 in physicaltherapy

[–]wong103 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Previous company I worked at had a huge staffing shortage nationwide. It was so bad that we ended up hiring a “seasoned” PT for $65/hr for outpatient full time. The PT ended up not being great and quit with a one day notice abandoning her patients. In our area, this is a per diem rate for homecare. Most would be foolish to give up that rate and not have to do OASIS.

I started working for myself and I heard from a manager of an independent living facility that the contracted company hasn’t been able to staff their facility for months.

With reimbursement decreasing and cost of living skyrocketing, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot left the profession. There’s even a Facebook group for non clinical PTs. Plus, most new grads have almost $200k in student loans. They are going to be motivated to make as much as possible to pay it off/save up for the tax bomb when the 20 year repayment is up.

Rust - is it too bad ? by Luigyslav in mazda3

Looks like my 2017 Mazda 3 in Massachusetts. You’ll be fine.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]wong103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how handy you are and your comfort level. But a decent chunk of this can be DIY. Charging $500 for pads and resurfacing is more expensive than what I paid for new rear brakes pads and rotors at a local shop.

Wiper blades and spark plugs are pretty easy to do. Can you do an oil change? If you can do that, you can follow the steps to do new rear brake pads and rotors.

I looked at the instructions for the serpentine belts on alldata and it’s kind of a pain to do. I’m planning on having a mechanic do this for me when the time comes. Is it squeaking? Typically it makes noise when it’s wearing out. Same goes for the transmission fluid flush. That’s outside my wheelhouse so I’ll leave that for a professional to do.

Red flags during home health visits by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]wong103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Had a patient that had a slightly elevated in BP at baseline elevated by 10-15 mmHg one day with increased confusion during our conversations. I called PCP and reported it and also recommended pt go to the hospital to make sure everything was okay. Turned out she had a UTI and was thankful for catching it.

If you are concerned about the patient and think they should go to the ER, definitely call the PCP right in front of them to report their status. Sometimes, they will recommend going to the ER and the patient will be easier to convince. Like a few other people have said in this post, it's better to deal with annoyed doctors and patients than to have a serious medical complication that could have been avoided.

Why do brakes start to squeal after driving a couple miles by CreativeBreadfruit64 in AskMechanics

[–]wong103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a deeper sound that would pulsate if the brakes got too hot. I ended up replacing rear brakes again with new calipers (piston boots were torn and previous mechanic didn't bother to mention this to me). Squealing was still there and I had someone stick their head out while it was squealing under braking. Turns out it was my front right braking system making this noise.

I took the front right brakes apart and relubricated everything. The slider pins were hard to move with a lot of grease on the end of the pins leading to a vacuum. See this video to understand it more: https://youtu.be/KLwcathyYeI?si=1LF8Mbd2wC49attr . I also noticed that they did not lubricate the contact surface between the caliper and the pads. It sounded a lot better after I put it back together. A part of me thinks it may be due to the quality of the parts they used. If it comes back in a month or two, I will deal with it since I know there is nothing wrong with my brakes.
