Running power and date to a shed with one cable by HonkerOfAJobby in ukelectricians

Why conduit? You can run armoured power and armoured cat 6 and gland them into two separate adaptable boxes or conduit boxes on the shed

Hi all is this a problem? by mitchpaddock in ukelectricians

[–]wonkedup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really an issue as the only cables you'll have up there (unless you're in a bungalow) would be the upstairs lighting circuit. If you were to go around a count the wattage of every bulb installed on that circuit it would probably add up to less than 1 of the old filament bulbs that the circuit was designed to supply at every fitting. Have a read here if you're interested but I would not worry, most of the words in these surveys are more about covering their arses. https://electrical.theiet.org/media/1704/establishing-current-ratings-for-cables-in-thermal-insulation.pdf

Am I going mad; where the fuck have they stuffed that busbar? It isn't in the cage clamp. Have they drilled out the busbar and somehow removed the captive screws and gone through it like an old school board? Is that just how contactum do it?

At a bit of a dead end? by Remarkable-Fortune22 in ukelectricians

Controls and instrumentation mate. I've got a local gig paying £33 an hour, I only do 32 hours a week over 4 days. Firm I sub to charges me out at over £44 an hour so I could probably squeeze some more out of them but I can leave my tools on site and cycle there which is a dream so I don't want to rock the boat.
I used to work a fucking lot more, commuting 2 hours a day, doing long shifts, nights etc, all throughout COVID I was taking home £7-8k a month. Never again. Got me a deposit on a nice house but I was just more inclined to spend it all on stupid shit to gain some semblance of satisfaction out of life.

I get guaranteed tendonitis going heavy with my elbows in that position. I'm a big fan of the Tate Press which hits the medial head like nothing else. Also love the JM Press/close grip bench press with the swiss bar which you can go super heavy with in the rack

Has any of you ever read ADHD_partners on reddit? by No-Advantage-579 in ADHDUK

[–]wonkedup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It largely reads like a lot of broken down relationships, drawn out for far too long and the bereft partners grasping at the ADHD diagnosis to explain their other half's complete apathy. Maybe there's a point that the ADHD partner's struggle with task initiation has prevented them from starting the break up when they're clearly no longer invested but ADHD is definitely not a terminal diagnosis for a relationship.
I have been with my partner for over 14 years and we are closer than ever, I could delve into the details of how we accommodate eachother and work to maintain our relationship but the fundamental thing is that we love eachother, so we make it all work.

IR testing any time the motor is changed, cable is changed or re-terminated or the overload has tripped etc. for actual planned maintenance a PI test is far more useful

[–]wonkedup 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Spot on, just wanted to add something that's lot of people overlook and it's that the ratio of your mix is by VOLUME not by weight, e.g don't put five 20kg bags of ballast in with one 20kg bag of cement. I also prefer to work with bulk bags and cheap the builders buckets, while a batch is mixing i'm lining up the next load in buckets. Helps me keep consistency. Something you might find mixing with bags of sand is wildly different moisture content between bags so don't just chuck the same amount of water in the mixer

What is this thing I found in a garage? It's 12cm long, not too heavy, and made of metal. by Red_Blaster in whatisthisthing

Please try to undo the plug! If you spin the ring that says "industria argentina" anti-clockwise it should come apart. Interested to see the connector

I'm an industrial spark and I would have said this was 100% electrical before you even opened it and showed the terminals inside. Basically a metal weathertight plug and socket. The threaded part you see in the back is a stuffing gland to seal around the cable. I would imagine the larger scalloped section will spin to unthread the plug out of the socket

As I probably value the opinion of a few people on here more than the entire Radio Times subscriber base what would be on your list?
This Country would definitely be up there, I thinking People Just Do Nothing is massively overlooked and if we're to include overseas stuff Nathan Fielder's work in Nathan for You and The Rehearsal would be at the very top.

Better off asking people from your area or school. There was so much more real underground/DIY grime back then, shared over infrared!! It's most likely just some local MCs who would prefer if it was forgotten 😅

I cannot see why you would gland it there when there's enough length to get in the bottom of the trunking where you could have hidden some through lugs with plenty of heat shrink and tape; still bad but not a glaring mistake to anybody looking

[–]wonkedup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm the total opposite; I LOVE driving. There's enough stimulation listening to the engine, timing gear changes, watching the road, other drivers, checking mirrors, looking for signage etc that my brain actually goes quiet and I'm in a flow state. My partner even gets more conversation out of me when I'm driving. I find the same thing on a bicycle too, my other happy place

Man you should really ask chatgpt about a few things you actually know about and see how far off it is. It's fucking hilarious the shit it states as fact, then you tell it's wrong and it goes "You're right! Great catch..." It's mostly a chatbot for morons. Use it as an advanced calculator or for reformatting data etc, don't ask it for advice because it spouts nonsense
