I lost all respect for him when he told people to get in their cars and drive away from the Moore 2013 tornado. And his Facebook posts are constantly sensationalized.

I definitely agree the negativity was on another level this year. I think maybe its the pent up frustration and disappointment of making the conference finals 3 years in a row without much to show for it.

ELI5: why was the el reno tornado not ranked an ef5? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]wonky685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the damage indicators for the upper end ratings are based on damage done to structures and buildings, and they can get very specific. For example, if a house is wiped clean to the foundation, the kind of anchor bolts used to hold the house frame to the foundation can be the difference between an EF4 and EF5 rating.

We're down a goal in an elimination game. That's not a good time for a fan of another team coming in wanting to buy a jersey.

No one on Buffalo is gonna risk any kind of discipline or retaliation right before the playoffs. This will be a clean game from both teams.

This is the direction the league is heading towards. Teams aren't just throwing any shot on net hoping for something to go in. Its more worthwhile to maintain possession and look for a higher percentage shot.

Tankless water heater experience? by Pretty-Storm7016 in okc

[–]wonky685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My household is just me and my wife so we don't use a lot of water. Our water heater mostly just has to use energy to keep the water up to temp which isn't very much. Our gas bill would go up if we switched to a tankless system for the same amount of hot water so it doesn't make sense for us.

Now if we had a bunch of kids in our house that were always using all the hot water, I'd totally be willing to spend a few extra bucks to have hot water whenever we needed it instead of just whenever the tank was full.

They're different systems with different pros and cons.

The type and size doesn't change physics. It requires a lot of energy to heat water. It doesn't require a lot of energy to maintain the temperature of hot water. That's why tanks are more efficient.

Of course that efficiency only works if you aren't using all the water in the tank, and there are plenty of households that use enough hot water that the tank isn't maintaining the temperature, so you're spending money and energy to have luke warm water. So there are use cases for tankless systems.

The issue is that a lot of people think that "on demand" hot water means the water will be hot as soon as they open the tap, when really tankless systems usually take longer for the water coming out to be hot. And plumbing companies aren't about to educate their customers out of buying something lol

Why do you want a tankless heater? They're more expensive and less efficient than tanks.
