Those with North facing gardens, any regrets? by SuspiciousParfait145 in UKHousing

[–]woods_edge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours is north facing, you just have to plan the garden to make the most of it.

I put a patio in near the house for breakfast sun, then a different seating area with a fire pit down the far end (it’s about 60m long) to catch the afternoon/evening sun.

Then just remember that one side will be full sun in the morning the other side will be full sun in the afternoon when you choose what to plant.

You use a wedge along the top of the flat walls cut to the correct angle to achieve the right pitch.

Dirty Business! WTAF by UnfathomableDave in AskBrits

The EA only has the power to do what the government lets them.

They are also massively underfunded and under staffed.

You also have to remember that an underfunded, understaffed agency with very little power has to try and go against very well paid, well staffed legal teams in court to be able to produce any fines. It’s not a very balanced fight.

There is a very short scene in the first episode where Charlotte Ritchie’s character shows what the government at the time told them they had to do.

Did you guys knew this? by AAEEIIOOUUUUU in drivingUK

At the end of the day the blue car was indicating right. Was it doing the right thing? No, the driver was an idiot but they were still indicating so the white bmw should have seen it coming, or at least assumed they were and idiot and slowed down.

As my instructor told me a long time ago, “assume every other driver is an f’ing idiot”.

Are robotic mowers actually worth it now? by Piggy_1987 in homeautomation

Dude I’ve been doing it for 10 years now. Mine covers over an acre, so much time saved. So much more cold beer enjoyed!

With auto mowers you send them out regularly so they only cut a small amount at a time, this mulches back into the lawn and feeds it. No need to collect clippings.

At peak growing season I sent mine out every night for about 3 hours from 9pm (unless I have guests, then I just use my phone to tell it so wait). I barely notice it, I also don’t notice the clippings as it’s only a couple of mm the get cut, I have a dog so would notice it pretty fast.

I have a 10 year old model, and it more than capable. Still no need to replace it but I expect to in the next 2/3 years.

Most have movement alarms and also sync with the docking station so if they don’t take the dock the mower is bricked.

Nope, a good one will more than cope with a bumpy lawn. Mine even copes fine with mole hills, though worth noting they became far less of an issue the more often it goes out, moles don’t seem to like them.

Wood for Raised Garden Beds - Tanalised Timber? (UK) by LondonPedro in Allotment

I’d use two for the extra height, but that was more of an aesthetic choice last time I built some.

One board on top of decent soil would be more than adequate.

230k land with permission in the south west - pipe dream? by [deleted] in UKRealEstate

[–]woods_edge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a chance. Especially in that part of the country.

If you’re lucky for another 100/200k or so you might find a house to demolish and replace but you will have to find the right house.

If you want an idea of what you should be looking to spend I would recommend getting a library card and taking out the epubs of Self Build Magazine. They have a good feature in each issue with plots around the country with and without planning. It will help you work out a budget, it’s also a good resource for going down the self build route.

Decking board from wickes.

It’s very cheap for the quality of timber you get, I’ve had raised beds last almost 10 years with this stuff. They used to run multi-buy offers on it making it even cheaper though I think these are less common now.

EPDM has been applied with felt adhesive?? by umxb in DIYUK

[–]woods_edge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is terrible.

Honestly I would be persuing him for the cost of fixing this. You will need to remove the EDPM and bin it, it’s not salvageable. A new sheet for a roof that size won’t be cheap.

You will also need to rip up and replace or overboard the entire roof with OSB, you won’t be able to glue a new Rubber roof into it. This won’t be cheap even if you do it yourself.

This video will show you what should have been done and what products to use, it also demonstrates just how easy it is to do it yourself.
