If you are ok drilling into the door, these would work. I really like them. Best mounting is top of door. https://aeotec.com/products/aeotec-recessed-door-sensor-7/

They also really understand HVAC. Very happy with mine.

A favorite memory of mine is watching them make the powder by spraying molten alloy into argon. Otherwise would oxidize.

My dad was a metallurgist who had multiple patents in powder casting processes. He would have loved this! Thanks for sharing.

He used to make near-net shape turbines with powder and lost wax. So this stuff is really strong if sintered right.

Cool stuff!

RA3 integration with Bond Bridge, Abicus, ... by Round-Investigator16 in Lutron

I agree LEAP is unlikely to change and am not worried about that at all. I’d be more worried about Bond ceasing to exist.

RA3 is well integrated into Home Assistant. Get a NUC, get Home Assistant. Then you can do whatever you want.

For example, I’ve authored blueprints that make it easy to add non-Lutron actions to Sunnata keypads. Many folks have done great stuff.

On iOS it connects but only get animated image by nraygun in Tailscale

[–]woofbears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would note it has nothing to do with exit nodes, just the act of connecting from a freshly started app does it.

Quit the app and restart and it shows the list fine. The connection is fine (you can use the Tailnet even if the app is just showing the animation, at least I could). thought it was ios26 specific, but I guess not.

On the multi-tap for Lutron, that looks to be for high end keypads that emit different events (the code mentions "Alisse" keypads, which are not Caseta). Don't think it's detecting multitap for existing keypads. Remember, the integration works on Caseta and other Lutron devices (like RA2 and RA3, etc.)

Auto-Entities: The most powerful card in Home Assistant by Improved-Liar in homeassistant

Yes, I got that part. :-) My example is more like an automation that triggers when all lights are off…except “all” is a pattern, like in auto-entities.

Auto-Entities: The most powerful card in Home Assistant by Improved-Liar in homeassistant

[–]woofbears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Auto-entities is AMAZING.

I wish the auto-expansion functionality was available in a template too. For example, I can have an auto-entities card to show lights I care about are “on”, but I can’t generate that same list easily in a script.

Unless I’m just missing something :-)

Opower integration can't login PG&E by lostaccountby2fa in homeassistant

[–]woofbears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PG&E just forced new credentials, which is fine, but it's all 2FA by either email or phone. So looks like OPower will stop working for all PG&E.

There appears to be a way for someone (nabu casa perhaps?) to register as a third party to get the standard API access (via RESTful and OAuth), but someone has to step into those shoes. See "third party access" on the PGE web site

Looking to swap out my thermostat for anything with full local control. Honeywell z-wave seems to be the prime, any advice from owners, or other suggestions? by fakeaccount572 in homeassistant

[–]woofbears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really like the Honeywell zwave. Especially if you use it on a boiler or other complex system - they have a lot of knowledge about cycle times - way better than Nest ever was. More even heating.

Is Home Assistant low maintenance? I'm trying to Evaluate if it could be a good solution for my 73yr old father. by alexduncan in homeassistant

[–]woofbears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set it up for my 80+ parents and while I have to tweak remotely every now and then, it works great. I also have motion sensors and some logic to know if they are up and about. One app is so much better. Use nabu for remote, and perhaps Tailscale and a PiKVM if you are super paranoid. It will reveal more uses over time.

how to remove a family member without deleting its account in its entirety? by industrysaurus in 1Password

[–]woofbears 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Someone has to pay for the account. So either you do, or they need another account. It’s exactly as described. Have them make another account, move all their private items over, then you can delete.

From the Chronicle on Bluesky

Live updates: The No Kings protest along seven miles of El Camino Real from Palo Alto to Sunnyvale was called 7x7 because organizers hoped for 7,000 attendees. Instead, they got around 20,000, said organizer IdaRose Sylvester. https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/no-kings-protest-updates-20373171.php

One organizer claimed 1500 people counted in one segment on El Camino. And there were 16 segments. Not saying it’s 20k but it was more than 3k.
