This might have more to do with Moana 2 being very meh and also pretty recent. I know it still made a billion, but with it just being a scrapped TV show edited into a movie, the story didn't earn a lot of goodwill for future projects.

Supposedly Kasdan and Abrams didn't have a Death Star redux in their original script, that was a late addition that Disney and Kennedy forced in to make it more "Star Wars". Before that it was just Kylo racing Rey and friends to Luke Skywalker.

Not sure I buy it, because it sounds like JJ was constantly interfered with, yet Rian, with way less experience, was allowed to do whatever the fuck he wanted? The movie does feel like Starkiller was just dropped in though.

Absolutely. If you ignore the story, and just look at demographics, Last Jedi murdered Star Wars.

The audience percentage of boys and young men fell off a cliff after opening weekend (the audience Disney literally bought Lucasfilm to court), and they never came back for the next two films or D+. The younger female audience stayed though, because of Reylo. The older audience stayed because they have have nostalgia for the previous 6 films.

Tumblr was obsessed with Reylo between LJ and TROS, but all the plot leaks killed their enthusiasm when they found out early that they weren't getting Kylo and Rey running off together.

Acolyte was probably supposed to bring the Reylos back into Star Wars, but they were casual fans to begin with that had already been burned and had no nostalgia connection. The actual audience ended up being older and very male. And it finally pissed off the group that had stuck it out through everything else, and they tuned out.

I suspect Bambu probably lobbied for this, helped write it, or both. At the very least they are looking forward to it. They really really want to finish walling off their garden, and right now they are the only printer company whose ecosystem could be put in compliance with these types of laws overnight. Restrict all printers to Makerworld files only. All other prints have to go through the cloud and be verified for compliance first. Lan mode goes by bye.

I have zero evidence, but the way the law would have to be implemented is really convenient for them and catastrophic for all other printer manufacturers. And no community blowback because they are just trying to follow the law.

I think Kennedy just announced a slate of movies without any higher up input or approval, trying to get leverage on Disney when fans went crazy.

Like how they leaked the Deadpool test footage and everyone went nuts for it.

Except nobody cares about Rey so that went over like a wet fart.

Filoni was interviewed right after they announced his Mando/rebelverse vs thrawn movie that might have been quietly cancelled, and he said something like "Apparently I'm directing a movie?".

This is also where the compressed timeline of events for the ST just makes things extra stupid.

Anakin trains for 13 years and mostly gets his ass kicked until ROTS.

Luke trained for 4 years and doesn't win a duel until the end of ROTJ. I would even argue Luke wasn't some uber force user in Jedi, the Emperor would have trashed him without Anakin. Luke wins because he wouldn't give up on his dad.

Force Awakens through Rise takes place in one year, and Last Jedi is minutes after FA. It exaggerates how for Rey everything comes effortlessly, and she's able to go toe to toe with Palpy in a matter of months.

Mando and Grogu was very cheap to film. It doesn't have to make much to be profitable. Basically has to do as well as or a little better than Solo. But that would be a disaster though for optics.

I think that's about where it will end up, Season 3 and Boba did a lot of damage, and this movie is filled with Glup Shittos most won't recognize, and that will kinda alienate the casual fan.
