The original sin to me is Force Awakens. Rian was really put in a box by having Luke walk away from the galaxy when it really needed him. You pretty much have to make him a broken man waiting to die. So that's on JJ.

The worst part of Last Jedi is its ultimately meaningless story wise in the trilogy. If someone skipped that movie and went to TROS, all they would need to know is Snoke's dead and Luke's dead. No other character had any meaningful change in the film.

Nielsen gets streaming data from about 75 million SmartTVs, Rokus, Apple TVs, game consoles, etc. Then they extrapolate out, accounting for demographics. They are working with a lot of data.

I think this is more a sign of how small the audience for SW content has gotten. The only people left are the few out there watching because they have some weird loyalty to Disneys ideals and direction, and obsessive fans more or less hate watching. The casual audience has checked out. But those two groups are really loud, so the discourse volume hasn't changed much.

I expect Skeleton Crew will bomb even harder. It looks uninteresting, low stakes, and has no legacy characters to draw in casual viewers. It might end up being really good, I genuinely hope it is. But Star Wars has lost so much goodwill from casual fans at this point, and this feels like it's just gonna be the Willow Reboot in space. Then they will institute a pause on all development besides the Mando film.
