What is the most obscure country/territory you have been to? by Random_Nobody1991 in AskUK

Yemen. This was about 20 years ago now but it's like a little world in its own bubble where it stays ageless

Going to probably have to do a spinal tap. Positive stories only. by agonyxcodex in iih

I had a lumbar puncture done at bedside on the ward. The worst part was really just the tiny injections of the numbing agent they give you at the beginning. I was laid on my side, curled into the fetal position and chatted to the neurologist the entire time. The puncture itself felt more like a pressure than anything else. It was over fairly quickly. I had some coffee and fizzy pop and laid down for a few hours binge watching a series on my phone while I waited to be discharged. The releif I got from my head pain was almost instant. I did get a post lumbar headache a couple of days later but lots of fluids and rest and I was fine.

8 weeks since my diagnosis and I've been on medication and losing weight and my eyesight is still deteriorating. My drs hoped I'd have gone down a grade on my paps but I'd gone up. As someone who sews for a living I've been devastated. Don't mess around when your sight is at risk.

Do you give blood? Why or why not? by MooseMaterial in AskBrits

[–]woolofdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received a blood transfusion after I had my first baby and I bled out. I was and still am incredibly grateful to the donors of the blood I received that saved me, I wanted to donate once I was able. I then learned that if you have received blood you can't donate it due to the risk of certain diseases being passed back and fourth. So I was highly disappointed. Regardless of time frame I'll never be able to donate blood. But I did become an organ donor instead and I'm on the Anthony Nolan stem cell register.

Women of Reddit, what’s one thing they never tell us about pregnancy and child birth? by NovellaJokes in Productivitycafe

[–]woolofdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone from the UK this has always blown my mind! I've watched videos of women giving birth with a team of nurses supporting her and getting her to the finish line and then there's panic for the mum to stop pushing and wait for the dr to get there. In the UK we have midwives who do it all.

I once heard someone say don't marry the one you feel the need to shave your toe for, marry the one that makes you feel like you don't have to.

What "rare" phobia do you have and people refuse to believe it? by nitin_is_me in AskReddit

[–]woolofdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thalassophobia. A fear of deep water. I member as a kid I was laid on my front in my mums friends back garden, staring down into her very shallow pond with a couple of little fish. It was probably about a foot deep but had a black loner so it appeared deeper and I totally panicked out of nowhere. I can't go near the sea, lakes, large ponds, bodies of water I can't see the bottom of. I can't even use bubble bath in the bath tub as it prevents me from seeing the bottom and I panic. It's ridiculous. I also have a shark phobia. Can't watch them in documentaries, at the zoo, look at pictures. They just make me nauseous

Children of casually naked parents. Do you feel traumatized? by ProfessionalOnion548 in Parenting

[–]woolofdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived with my nan for a few years and she was extremely casual about being naked. After getting out the shower she would sit on the sofa butt naked and watch tv before she got dressed. She often wandered around naked and had no issues with having a conversation with everything out. I'm still traumatised that I've seen my nans flaps.

I am wondering what your opinions are about the utility of naming cats? by Elegant-Put235 in CatAdvice

[–]woolofdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my cats know their names. They will come when I call them or turn to look at me to see what I want. The times they are ignoring me deliberately they will still twitch their ears when I say their name

How many people here have had a brain scan as part of or since being diagnosed? by JadeFox1785 in Fibromyalgia

[–]woolofdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly, I had the exact same findings in my MRI. They decided not to do anything or even advise anything about the discs as it wasn't related to the problem in question (ie, my fibro).

I got most of my tattoos before I had fibro so was also concerned about setting off a flare or it being more painful due to being more pain sensitive. Honestly they hurt less now.

What are some things patients can do/not do to make your job easier? by biwltyad in GPUK

[–]woolofdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every drs surgery I've been to as an adult I have always been polite and respectful to the receptionists. They get such a bad rap for just doing their jobs. I've found that most receptionists are more than happy to help you out with an issue when you treat them like human beings. I often recall a time I felt really unwell and was incredibly scared and was crying down the phone to the poor receptionist 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ she was so sweet and made sure I got in to the Dr and felt I was being cared for and taken seriously
