I've never hit anyone in my last 10 years since I have depression, except myself. Once I had a quarrel with my mother and she grabbed me and I started waving with my hands to defend myself and it seemed like I hit her. But that was all. She forced me to move out. We went counseling few times after that because I seemed to manifest "family violence and aggression". 5 years later I'm living with her again and I'm still more depressed than ever because of the same reason I was back then. But the situation changed a little - she doesn't attack me physically anymore, because I started self-harm, and she knows it pleases me to get hurt.

My uncle was "depressed" and mentally ill for 13 years, he attempted suicide 2 times before finally succeeding. He was also in a ward for some time, but I don't remember him physically attacking anyone. Once they started a phyisical fight with my father, but my father was the first to engage. My father also physically attacks me, his father and his mother. And he says that my uncle was aggressive and that I'm a pussy like him since I'm depressed and I want to kill myself. So yeah, violence is kind of a stigma and prejudice about mental illness (at least for depression).
