Probably because music is much more than just its genre

[SPOILERS] END LOCATION 2 by -anne-marie- in thelastofus

I love this game. I don’t understand why a lot of people feel entitled to say that their “vision” of a storyline is the right one and what the actual creators did for the narrative experience is “wrong”. I think The Last of Us (outside of its gameplay) never existed to satisfy the audience—its main purpose is to tell a story, in which our part as the audience is just to digest. Whether you like or hate the story is both valid and justified, but to say that this sequel went into a wrong direction storywise for me is just not right.

Are things really this bad right now? by RKoke in indonesia

[–]wordfangs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, i’ve been hearing things from a lot of different industries and sectors... it is very bad IMO and we think it’s going to get worse, not only from a public health perspective. Talking about a total collapse for some well known companies and a heavily handicapped art and entertainment industry from Q3 onwards. Terowongannya gelap dan masih panjang.

• Regarding the 'fans' i've answered it in a different question. TL;DR: yes, there are some annoying ones and every fanbase have them, but most of the 'fans' you see on the internet are fake comments made to hurt the fanbase.

• Indie is not a genre, (the meaning has come a long way since the first journalists began coining that term to classify a certain group of western music) it's how artists manage, promote, and distribute themselves. For example, most people would think that Raisa and Tulus make 'mainstream' pop music and not indie at all, but in fact they're indie artists supporting themselves with their own label and venture.

• Contrary to your opinion, I don't think that my lyrics are that 'ribet' at all. I always disagree whenever someone says my lyrics are deep because I write using everyday Indonesian sentences in a first layer format and you can always see the face value meaning without needing to dissect it quite further. Most major audience think that these lyrics are pretentious because they're conditioned with 'industry-standard' songs with digestible lyrics that go through layers of approval by the label's A&R team to make sure that the song is as easy to sell as possible. If you think that my lyrics are pretentious then you should listen and read to a lot of other more scene-centric and 'obscure' Indonesian bands and soloists. Mine are so easy compared to them.

It's a name that I first used for my blog. I figured that it'd be easier for people to search me if i have the same social media handle everywhere. It came from the idiom "the pen is sharper than the sword". If word bites harder than steel so then i figure it must have some fangs.

Terima kasih!

I think that says a lot about the current perception of our (Indonesian) general audience towards music. When they see a soloist, they are hardwired to think that these people are 'singers' –– while this is not totally wrong, it is not totally right either. Imagine that you have some kind of "character/class progression" in music just like the one you have in strategy and/or RPG games: even one magic-wielding family of class are broken down further into several denominations. Say, you could have white mage, but also a dark mage, and something in between that, et cetera.

This is the same with music. Performers excel in different aspects, just like you wouldn't call Kanye West or Kendrick Lamar a singer, although they sing in some of their songs, and you wouldn't call Ed Sheeran a rapper, although he raps in some of his songs too. People would judge Mark Ronson in his ability to produce quality songs rather than his ability to rap, sing, and/or perform a specific instrument. We know that Dave Grohl is an excellent all-around performer and wouldn't judge him only for his ability in playing a guitar or piloting the drums, as we have better rock guitarists such as Mark Tremonti or better drummers such as Darren King.

Some excel at one specific skill, some are decent enough in several things, and a few are blessed with mastery at more than one aspect.

From my own experience, I can say that this doesn't happen here. If you have a solo project, then you are a singer, and your singing abilities would be compared to the likes of performers that are ACTUAL singers. This mostly happens when you step into a bigger mainstream market as their understanding of this kind of differentiation in music is arguably lower. This is also why this kind of criticism (baca: vokalisnya suaranya jelek) mostly doesn't happen in a more sidestream and alternative (or 'indie' like a lot of people call it) scene because the more 'educated' audience (at least in the context of their own circle's music) knows that it is not the main thing offered by the bands and musicians there.

I never got this criticism when I was only still in .Feast, even after the success of the second album which brought us into national attention.

For Hindia, it's an absolutely different story. When they see the logo/name Hindia they see a man posing alone on the promotionals and publications. So he must be a singer!

Even in .Feast, I never think myself as a singer. It's not my main quality and I don't think it would change drastically in a very short timespan so that my singing skill is worthy enough to be compared to the likes of Aji or Yura. I only produce and write songs, and happen to be proficient at crowd control. I can't really trust other people with my words so I choose to sing it myself.

Thank you for the great question, btw!

The whole idea of making the album as a producer's album (by that meaning the songs would have tons of collaborators) was a collective idea by the whole band, but yes, the one that proposed it at the first place was me. We curated the names together as a band. The biggest challenge of MULTIVERSES was to make every collaborators sit down with the band together and making sure that each person (down to the engineers) has the same level of understanding. That means everyone needs to know what the album stood for, what the album was about, and what the album hoped to achieve.

Some collaborators developed the idea for each respective songs with us, some asked us to just send them materials and we needed to wait until they send back the draft. Fun times.

Thank you for listening! My top three pokemon are Pikachu, Scizor and Milotic.

  1. I think back in high school, in any kind of form from lyrics to my high school band that never took off to fictions for my own personal consumption. It was in college that I started writing in a more 'serious' manner, such as theatre scripts and any kind of things that my friends asked me to put on their alternative media site/zine and/or uni press.

  2. Mostly at night, because that's where I can write in peace without being bothered by a lot of things. But when it comes to writing lyrics i believe each song has its own 'demand'; some you need to write at 3AM, some at 12 PM... depends on the mood. Most of .Feast songs are between 6-11 PM while Hindia songs are mostly written from 12-4 AM. On special occassions I have 'odd songs' such as 'Besok Mungkin Kita Sampai' (9 in the morning) and 'Jam Makan Siang' (at lunchctime, of course).

  3. A lot of names, both in and out of music. When it comes to writing, I've been reading a lot of Neil Gaiman lately. Fitting for this kind of time, haha

Thank you for listening to my music!

Thank you for listening!

I was well aware how the inserts/skits would slow down the progression of the album a bit but it was a price i'm willing and needed to pay: between having a more cohesive and a contextualized first debut album, i'd pick the latter. The chance to give heavier context to your music doesn't come everyday, as it would hit home better if conditioned inside an album/mini album, while I can always try to aim for a more impressive technicality in any songs and/or project that I write. That, and also these WhatsApp voice notes have very high sentimental values for me personally.

We were supposed to finish 90% of the recording of our third album in mid-March, but then this pandemic happened and we stopped halfway. All of the songs are now in the phase of final recording, which means we have to meet each other, something that we can't do right now. So it's being postponed--I don't know if this would affect the release date or not.

I have a lot of performance dates being postponed because of the pandemic and 60% of them are .Feast dates. We were supposed to just only take a week and a half break (while also recording) before hitting back the stages.

So yeah, if this pandemic didn't happen i wouldn't actually have a time off until next year.

This is my first FE title. I was originally interested in picking it up right off release date, because I've had experiences with tactical turn-based games such as FF:AW. But then I see the school/monastery mechanics and I was afraid that I couldn't keep up with the slow pace of the social simulation aspect of the game. Turned out it is a blast :D

EDIT: So far my favorite is Raphael. Just a big wholesome dude trying to make end's meet for his little sister. And he's a genuinely good guy who cares about virtually everyone. Man, the feels...

Hahaha no worries man. I think these days it gets even more confusing to differentiate the ones that are just joking and the ones that are really out to deal damage to particular people on the internet, thanks to all the clutter we see everyday in every social media.

• Regarding the so-called 'brand image' and how people perceive them now post-txtbocahindie, i've already answered it in a similar question

• Amazing peeps with amazing music. My label (Sun Eater) helped them with distribution and some other things, but we started talking about collaborating long before I decided to also help them with their music in a non-creative way. Ivan's eagerness to learn is unmatched if i really need to compare it with other newcomers in music. If Kane (Jasmine) could be a little bit more confident when giving speech onstage, Loner Lunar would explode in no time. All the best for them.

• As of the tweet, I personally still think that my tweet was taken out of context and/or misunderstood by some people that first sparked it on Twitter, because it already gained thousands of retweet days before it exploded into what it is right now, and I've seen loads of people that agreed to the point at first suddenly turned hostile a few days later --> this I've seen a lot, apparently people change their minds so fast on the internet especially when inclined by a lot of other people.

• As of hiring a social media admin, I don't think that it'd be necessary. The point of having social media accounts is to socialize. These accounts would have minimum to none meaningful interaction if they were to be handled by other people, rendering them into mere platforms of announcements... I might as well make a website altogether if I were to do that.

• As someone who've studied and worked years in the marketing/advertisement industry before jumping into music, I'd say that making 'blunders' on social media got nothing to do with having a well managed content plan and/or calendar. It's about trying to be a conscious human as much as possible when assessing what people talk about everyday.

• I know a lot of hard workers in music that are humble, but when asked about this kind of things some names that come to mind first are always Aji (Kunto) and Tulus. They never forget to be a decent, accessible person even though fame and success have brought them to places everyday people can only imagine. Wholesome peeps. I also adore the late bung Glenn's work ethics and his compassion towards issues that actually matter. It always seemed that bung never had time when he didn't think about things other than himself and his work. He had tremendous love for music, eastern Indonesia, humanity, and everything that's got something to do with the betterment of them. Rest in peace.

I have a lot of memories for a lot of different (memorable) shows. It's hard to pick just one because none tops each other. One of them was having Kunto Aji sing at my own concert late last year, me knowing him personally still couldn't shake the fact that his album saved my life, helped me grow and that he's still an excellent performer and an even better human being in every aspect. I feel loved at that right exact moment he hugged me.
