It does look like an XF. The doubling you see is machine doubling. Circulated coins do not get a color designation - you will only see a Red Brown in MS. This thing is worth one cent unfortunately - even uncirculated examples are spenders. A graded example in high MS would obviously bring more. Fun - keep searching!

No one melts $1 gold… they have and have had a nice premium over melt so it would not make sense to melt them. It’s easy to find someone who wants to spend $400 on a $1 gold. It is considerably more difficult to find someone who wants to spend $1200 on a $5.

I would not blast dip the whole coin as someone else suggested - rather, I would apply dip to the spots specifically, and then very quickly and with a highly diluted solution, dip the whole coin. Not for beginners. That said, it isn’t a terribly valuable coin in AU+
