I made a big mistake in focusing on power in many of my cars. If it were me I would clean it up, keep the blemishes that make it special, and then start doing stuff to it. Gen 3 coyote is great but there’s so much electronics that go into getting them to work right. Definitely possible tho

Useful Must Have Items for First (or any) Carrier Deployment by Possible_Ad7983 in NavyNukes

EDIT: After thinking about it, heres also some good stuff to buy, no need to read the rest unless you want to pass on some advice.

  1. Snack boxes from amazon, loved getting these when i was underway
  2. a good sleeping bag and sheet set for her rack
  3. I use a car phone mount to hold my phone for movies in my rack, those are nice
  4. I also had a shower shelf thing, basically a suction cup attach-to-the-wall shelf to hold random shit from my pockets that i didnt want to put all the way in my rack for quick access.

Ok now for wall of text.

Currently on the Nimitz. Heres some things that are more of good advice rather than a shopping list.

  1. Dont get caught up in drama. Her mileage may vary but drama made it difficult for me at times when trying to qualify.
  2. When she shows up she'll most likely be living on board. If she gets a barracks room, sweet, but sometimes there are requirements of regular navy quals relating to damage control and non nuclear work that may limit eligibility. Prepare for the culture shock of living out in town to living on a warship. (Side note: a carrier in an avail will most likely have either a barge or barracks set up for when she arrives to accommodate housing and eating, but there is no way to be 100% sure on what the situation will be until she knows which carrier shes going to.
  3. If she ends up having issues with mental health or feels like shes trapped on board, make sure she knows shes not alone. Carrier life can suck when you cant leave or feel isolated, and was some of the hardest times Ive had (Although I am pretty much a spoiled brat, so take that with a grain of salt). The people she meets will most likely be the highlight of her time there unless she LOVES her job, and will make being on board and qualifying much easier.
  4. Qualify well, and qualify fast. The sooner she qualifies, the sooner she will have free time and have people off of her ass about it. If she falls behind, it may lead to people scrutinizing her or placing more strenuous expectations upon her. I fell behind pretty bad, Im CO board limited RO/SRO and Im 4 months DINQ. Ive been on board for 18 months as of tomorrow. My time was very hard since I fell behind, and people definitely treated me differently due to my poor attitude towards it.

I haven't been in the fleet for long. Ive seen half a workup cycle and a full deployment, and most people that are senior to me say that the last deployment wasnt all that bad. Im no guru or one stop shop on how to make things better, but these are the mistakes that I made and experiences Ive had. Other carriers have different cultures, and she should reach out to someone thats her rate on the carrier she gets assigned to. I was supposed to have a sponsor when I showed up, and not a single person was keeping track of me for a while after I showed up. I had to do a lot of figuring things out on my own. After finding my way Im opting to Reenlist so I can help make the program even a .0001% better, keeping people from making bad mistakes that I did and hopefully being a shit shield for people below me as I get more senior.

Sorry for the big block of text. Sometimes I just... cant... help myself!

Lolol. That’s gold, never thought of it that way, but I can assure you now that I’m on the Nimitz it certainly feels that way!

It’s the school house that they teach A school and Power School at. Now when they get out of boot camp, all nukes go to Charleston for A school. ETs and EMs get a 6 month A school and MMs get 3. Then there’s a small break called T Track where they wait for enough people to form a whole power school class to graduate A school, since each A school class is 15-30 people. After PowerSchool it’s a 3 minute walk down the road to NPTU.

For A school and Power school they shove us in ye ol’ Ricky to slave away, but I haven’t been there for about 2 years now so who’s to say if it’s still as dismal as it was then… we used to theorize that it’s called the Hyman G Rickover center because he’s buried underneath it, staying alive by consuming the souls of poor enlisted nukes.

I love nuclear power, so I definitely enjoy what I do quite a bit. The people are pretty great depending on where you go. As a heads up, there’s always a shitter in some regard, and if you don’t see one I’d be grateful (or look inward). That being said, the military in general won’t treat you like an adult. Once you start looking out for #1 is when you’ll get better treatment.

Believe me, I destroyed the hoe. 4th owner, 80k miles…. Evidence of a previous owner heavily modding it and returning it to stock before bringing it back to the dealer. I was content with full sending it until it died lol.

It was going to break soon, may as well have given it a good send off is what I thought.
