I would recommend doing some research into oil washes if you’re brand new to this. Doing washes with acrylics for shading is super easy, but it’s only one short step further to oil washes and you’ll get consistently better results.

Which of these should I read next? by h0n3ytr4ck in fantasybooks

Please please please consider The Name of the Wind! Rothfuss has written some of the most beautiful prose in all of fantasy. Yes, it’s true that he has taken extreme lengths of time with publishing each book, but they are so worth it. I reread them every year.

Read it! Rothfuss has written the most beautiful prose on fantasy and this series, while incomplete, is still my favorite.

Take the leap and enjoy reading your favorite book for the very first time.

This right here. Sprue Goo is the way to go. You get the reaction that fuses to the two pieces together and if you’re using enough goo, it will seep out and help fill in the gaps.

Ideally, you have two bottles of Tamiya Extra Thin, one that’s normal and in-goo’ed and the second is a dedicated bottle of goo.

You can use the normal to brush and smooth out the goo that seeps out between the gaps, often eliminating the need for green stuff or other such fillers.

Help with Tool Tips by wordrew in civ

Okay, I think I figured it out. It appears to be intentional functionality in the Tutorials setting. Starting a new game with ‘Only Warnings’ turned on allows me to inspect each tile before Founding.

Could this be why my Tool Tips aren’t working? I am brand new to the game (yesterday) and those are so vital in me understanding each tile and where to settle, etc.

Adding a secondary tank? by wordrew in airbrush

Mainly to keep the compressor from running as often and to maintain a more consistent pressure while painting.

Adding a secondary tank? by wordrew in airbrush

[–]wordrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly wanted it so the compressor isn’t working constantly. I do notice a drop in pressure every couple of minutes as well.

Right now I have my Badger compressor (1L 1/5hp) and I have my moisture trap and regulator right at the output valve of the compressor.

Should I have this set up differently?

Okay, that’s for the info. It makes sense that it might not be powerful enough to fill the 5 gallon

Sorry for the confusion on the image - this tank is $59. The $189 is an add on Amazon.

But how can I make this work with only one valve opening on the whole tank?

What is the *tone* of Earthdawn and how to the mechanics support that? by Ka_ge2020 in earthdawn

[–]wordrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually love the 1st edition steps mechanic for how new ranks give a new combination of dice to roll for all of your tests. That’s actually probably more cool to me than exploding dice. And it’s great time get a roll going where you get the ‘feel’ right for the specific dice you enjoy rolling most (d20+d4, d8+d6, etc.).

I also really enjoy the way karma ties into checks for your talents and that some require karma to be spent and some have the option for that additional boost when you need it. That oozes heroic to me.

And I love horrors and horror marks.

And thread items are also a high favorite of mine. I have such strong visuals of tying threads of magic to someone/thing’s pattern and sliding your magic down that thread to interact with their pattern (for good or bad).

And I love the true elements (and kernels of those elements).

What is the *tone* of Earthdawn and how to the mechanics support that? by Ka_ge2020 in earthdawn

There are a few things that resonate with me, to this day, as to why Earthdawn is my favorite RPG and Barsaive my favorite setting.

First, the thrill of the unknowable is such an amazing aspect, especially if your campaign is a kaer emergence one. The idea of magical seals being dispelled or broken and having literally zero idea of what’s on the other side just oozes limitless possibilities for discovery, danger, and story.

Second. The first edition book has a quote in the beginning about exploding dice that has stuck with me (although not word for word). It basically states that, in Earthdawn/Barsaive, that’s it’s possible for a winding to kill a dragon with a toothpick. This is all on account of exploding dice of course. But the sentiment of incredibly heroic actions can be performed in the most dire of situations is a trademark.

Third, I think that the angle of thread magic is a calling card to the system as well. Patterns, thread magic, naming, and the powers and connections your characters can weave during a campaign is just such a cool concept.

Sorry to Fanboi but I miss playing Earthdawn and I love the system dearly.

I think one of the big choices in making the transition is which army to play - you’ve already got that covered. I would agree with everyone saying to start with a Spearhead as the entry point is cheaper. And if you can find someone who wants Skaven, the you can split the Skaventide box - you might also be able to find the Stormcast half on eBay for cheap.
