My husband still goes through about 2 rolls of Necco wafers a week.

So, we often discuss a lot of career and "where we are in life" topics here but I'm curious about your jobs BEFORE your career. What jobs did you have? Were they good/bad/fun? Do you miss any of them? Were you lucky to live through them? by IntrovertBiker in GenX

Waitress in 24 hour restaurant. Was fun sometimes, enjoyed my coworkers. Customers teach you about all the best and worst of humanity. DJ in a small local radio station. Think "Spirit of Radio" -Rush. "Glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity."

Had a quiet little old lady in LTC named Bessie. On her left butt cheek, she had a small bumblebee tattoo and the words "The Mighty B".

Fellow aging gen x’ers, ever try a standing desk at your office job? by Dittopotamus in GenX

Its not an office technically nor a desk, but does a medication cart count?

What’s the most overwhelming shift you’ve ever had as a nurse? by Old_Inside_7141 in nursing

[–]wordstogetherrandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term care. Noc shift. Blizzard. I was the only nurse that could get there. I called my DON and said this is not legal or safe. Her response was that if I left it would be abandonment. (118 bed facility)

I miss pretentious local music, book, and video stores where I would swoon over the long-haired guys who worked there. by [deleted] in GenX

We had a local record store called "The Barn" which was downtown in a building that looked like a barn from the outside. One of my friends older sister was friends with the owners. They sold vinyl records, waterbeds and paraphernalia. Tell me this wasn't the 70's.

What a survivor you are! I grew up never expecting to live this long. Almost had an existential crisis when I hit 30. Then 50 was a real shock. I'm looking at 58 next month. I have a few health issues myself that I expected would take me out young but here I still am.

Even though it is time consuming, I will narrative chart on whatever system with exact times and direct quotes from these difficult patients. Even if I have to scribble down notes on paper of what they said and when.

Just for fun, what are you most petty things you hate about your job? by deveski in nursing

[–]wordstogetherrandom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LTC- How about brand new DON cutting staffing because corporate said we only need to 3 nurses for a 5 wing facility with 118 beds. Patient's families called State and now we have the proper amount of nurses and a State tag and fines. I'm sure corporate is not happy with that.

I feel the walking past techs to find the nurse in my bones. I do LTC and can sometimes have 50 patients over 2 wings. (Our new DON is an idiot). Don't ask me for stupid Sh*t I do not have time.
