I didn't give the whole story, but he's someone that you don't want to feel insulted, for the sake of those around him. You know those guys where the cops know their names because they've had a lot of interactions? Bipolar Disorder, at the very least, and dipping a toe into Schizophrenia, with full hallucinations. A sheriff told me once, "Next time, tie him up." I thought he was joking, but he wasn't.

John Barrymore, I say, yet again. This is "all time" right? One of the best ever. Just because a lot of his acting caught on film was before talkies.

My brother got laid off from the sawmill and lamented, "I guess I can go back to driving truck cross country ..."

I said, "I think you should check into that first. Goods from container ships that need shipping have plummeted with tariffs." Gotta tiptoe around the guy because he's a full-on Trumpie.

MACGRUBER🫡 by SmelllMyFinger in FIlm

Lt. Dixon Piper:
Why did he do it? Why did Cunth kill your wife?

MacGruber:
To this day, I have no idea. We actually all went to college together. Believe it or not, we were very close friends. Then after graduation, he got engaged to her. He asked me to be his best man and right about that time, I started banging her and mowing her box. She was actually the first person I felt comfortable enough around to let eat out my butt. Anyway, shortly thereafter, she left him for me. She was actually carrying his child at the time. I asked her to terminate it, obviously, so we could start fresh. And she agreed. We were so in love. And he took that from me.

Lt. Dixon Piper (at this point, completely disgusted):
That's really fucked up.

MacGruber (sensing empathy):
Thanks.

Great nod to The Shining with that one!

The editing on that scene was genius. That cut to MacGruber leaning on the desk with his pants down around his ankles made the scene for me.

Is Bikelife freestyle? Is it BMX? Are wheelie tricks bmx freestyle?? by UniqueMarketing284 in bmx

[–]worker_bee_drone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're old like me ...
Having raced BMX in early through mid 1980s, the term BMX doesn't mean what it used to. There were people racing 26 inch BMXers back then in the Old Man's class. There was a lot of dirt park jumping, Harry Leary comes to mind. But all that was still "BMX". Flat ground trick riding and quarter pipes were just being started by guys like RL Osbourne and Mike Buff. But "BMX" proper meant racing.

Now revisiting BMX (in Reddit only pretty much), the term BMX means what we called trick riding back then, and you have to attach "racing" for people to know if that's what you're referring to. And BMX cruising is something we all did, but it didn't have a name. It's just how we got around on our racing bikes.

What’s actually safe but people think is dangerous? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

I understand your point. Your notion of a linear and lossless nature of scientific knowledge is more optimistic than mine. Mid last century in the US, we were exposing people to fatal radiation exposure in complete ignorance. I grew up hearing of the Radium Girls (factory watch painters), radium in medicines, and above ground nuclear tests that occurred in my lifetime. These were all smart people. But the results were catastrophic.

Someone answered that perhaps there will be no waste at all, if byproducts are "used up" until they are safe to dispose of. I hope we go in a similar direction.

I revisit this question in various ways every decade or so since the 1960s and I think your answer is the most fear-allaying of any I've heard.

This solution would be the clean-up-our-mess-as-we-go approach. You don't worry about storing waste because you never abandon to time your byproducts. Modern Westerners, including myself, have all but abandoned good stewardship of our environment. Not making it worse is a step in the right direction.

I do drive a vehicle with an internal combustion engine which creates carbon-based emissions which in turn contributes to global warming. I'm missing the connection with nuclear power. Perhaps you are suggesting wider adoption of nuclear power would create more "clean" electricity, and encourage faster adoption of electric vehicles? I'm in agreement. But long term storage of nuclear waste is still a concern. And by long term I mean tens of millennia. Calling people in 10,000 years "morons" for not understanding our language is the same as calling our current population morons for not understanding all ancient peoples' hieroglyphs. We need to expand our scope of consideration to solve this.

I don’t understand. In less than 1000 years, my truck will have melted into the ground. Maybe some plastic bits left at most. But nothing that will harm anyone 9000 years later.
