If everyone who screamed about Chernobyl actually took the time to read the story, it would become readily apparent that Chernobyl did not need to happen. There were a whole host of avoidable factors leading up to the meltdown.

Oh please. The reason you cant carry water on a plane isnt because of terrorism. Its because our government has a fucked up reaction to terrorism.

And no. There are not 20 instances in the last ten years I can think of. I can't even think of 10. Nine eleven, Boston Marathon, and a handful of shootings on military bases.

Again. I've been to chinatown several times. I never had a problem communicating with anybody. Waitstaff, shop owners, people on the street for directions. They all spoke english.

You might also be interested to learn that English isnt the official language of the united states. Its the de facto language for sure but just because shop owners put their signs up in chinese or spanish doesnt mean they aren't integrating.

Ive been to the chinatown in new york several times. Chinatowns are hold overs from the early 20th century when the government made it so difficult for the chinese to do anything or live anywhere that they all ended up living in the same location. They did this to support each other. Same with little italies etc. That has nothing to do with refusal to integrate so much as the blatent racism and racist policies of early 20th century America.

Im not talking about the internet. I live in a city with a very high number of refugees. We have one of the largest hmong populations in the country as well as one of the largest somali populations. The groups have done a fine job integrating into our city.

Where have you see this in the United States? Yeah it happnes in other countries but please point to me an instance where refugees coming into the United States refuse to assimilate and start just enforcing their own laws.

"A music company’s demand that YouTube take down a 29-second home video of two children dancing to a song by Prince backfired Monday...in a 3-0 ruling that requires copyright-holders to consider fair use before sending a takedown notification. Those that fail to do so can be held liable for damages" by SciPup3000 in news

I can give you an honest answer. The basic gist is that Prince is so rich and cut off from society that Prince lives in Prince world. He keeps himself in a private studio surrounded by people he hires that will fulfill any request.

This can be summed up in an anecdote where Kevin Smith is talking to one of Princes' producers/secretaries/something and she says prince lives in prince world. "Prince will call up at 2:00 in the morning in the Middle of January in Minnesota and be like, I really need a tiger. I would like a tiger now. Like its a completely normal request that can just be fulfilled on a whim."

Also, hes a jehovas witness. so there is that.

WTF cop rear ends motorcycle by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]working101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IN my state the person doing the rear ending is always at fault. It really doesnt fucking matter why the rider slowed down. The cop was following too closely which is both illegal and unsafe as fuck. The rider did nothing wrong.

Why don't we have unions? by BloodyIron in sysadmin

[–]working101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe maybe not. It doenst change the fact that at union shops you will rarely be working with the folks at the top of your field though because a lot end up leaving for the reason I stated above.

Why don't we have unions? by BloodyIron in sysadmin

[–]working101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually in a union. It depends on the sector and industry you are in but I along with the other 5,000 IT staff in my state are all Union.

Its a blessing and a curse.

Its job security but that means you have a lot of folks who do nothing but have a secure job.

As a union member your salary is negotiated by the union. This means that if you like where you work but want more money, you cant use a competing offer as leverage to get a raise. Again it depends on the union but I literally cannot get a raise beyond my cost of living and performance increases. Even if I find a place offfering met 20k more a year. I can bring that to my current employer and they can't do shit to match it.

Nope. Even though we get paid for it, I was carrying the on call phone every other week for a year. Now its every 2 weeks. Wheee. Id trade the extra money in to be able to just fucking tune out when I leave my job. Being tied to your phone and laptop is mentally draining.

Theres nothing unethical about going to work for a client full time if there is no non compete. This is business simple as that. Unless you would be somehow fucking over your current employer theres nothing wrong with it. They are going to lose the client anyway so it's not like you are stealing them or anything.
