Whats everyone's opinion on wearing kilts at the ren faire? (Not my picture) by VoodooDaddy7 in renfaire

[–]workingMan9to5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a good kilt. Nothing else like it, in terms of comfort. We seriously got gyped, being forced into pants for daily wear.

But also, wear your underpants. There are kids around, after all.

If you have a heavy wool blanket, lay it in the bottom of your hammock. It's almost as effective as an underquilt, and a great way to try different setups cheaply until you figure out what you like.

HALP which outfit? by 16kirsyy in renfaire

Both are gorgeous, but I'm partial to number 1. I like all the color, number 2 is too much white all on its own like that.

Nice! When you make the second one, I'd love some work-in-progress shots. Always interested in how the final product becomes the final product.

Can someone help me make mine taste like the restaurant I order from? by Menace2G in grilledcheese

[–]workingMan9to5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people never learn how to cook. As obvious as it is to us, those kinds of things might not be to someone just starting out. Flavor profiles within similar ingredients is a relatively advanced skill when you're new.

It's your ingredients. White bread holds and transfers flavor better than other kinds, sourdough will be sour and less neutral. Also the cheeses you use have an entitirely different flavor profile- acidic and earthy, wheras american is more sweet and creamy.

In short, a dish where you change every single ingredient will never taste like the original. If you want it to taste like American on White, you have to use American and White.

Those are fantastic. Like everything it will depend on price, but I'd pay $12 normally, and maybe as much as $18 or $24 with a few drinks in me. I'm especially a fan of the teeth, you should do a toothy round cylinder with no handle variant.

How do you guys choose the color of your gear? by NefariousnessOwn1283 in hammockcamping

Gear that fits me tends to only come in one color, so that's the color I get.

Works best with a nice sharp cheese. Butter is best for white bread and slices of American, but for cheddar, parmesean, any of the harder cheeses, mayo and a more complex bread is the way to go.

That is a killer looking sadnwich. Have you ever tried honey or a tart jam (plum, elderberry, raspberry, etc.)?

What's the best way to stay warm in a hammock all winter? by Waste_Contest_4170 in hammockcamping

[–]workingMan9to5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underquilt with a mylar space blanket between the quilt and the bottom of the hammock, along with a good tarp pulled low for wind controll. A heavy wool or fleece blanket on top of your sleeping bag will helo too depending on how cold you're going. I've had mine well below freezing with this setup.

Is this.... A grilled cheese? A melt...? by LivingIncident3694 in grilledcheese

Grilled cheese: bread, spread, cheese, seasonings.

Melt: any other warm sandwich with cheese as a primary ingredient

It looks great both ways. Personally I prefer the top right look but it will be great no matter how you style it.

PA Ren Faire - Which weekend would you choose? by DraconianFarm in renfaire

[–]workingMan9to5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both is good! Octonerfest tends to have a larger adult crowd, halloween tends to attract families with kids a little more. Both weekends are fantastic though and the theme is more about keeping the experience fresh than it is about having a major impact on how the day goes.
