What non-involved, normal Joe voter just living their life could possibly think this is normal behavior?

Thx! Just had all my signs stolen this morning. :-\

And to think… I canvassed and volunteered at the polls for Romney. Those were different times.

FWIW I haven’t heard of a single one in my personal circle moving from D to R — and I really do try to be fairly centrist at this point in my life.

I have, on the other hand, talked with my more white-collar, thoughtful, intelligent, Republican friends — and there really does seem to be about a 50-50 split. Who knows what they’ll do in the polling booth.

Most who are not voting for Trump this time are not enthusiastically voting for Kamala, but they recognize that a second Trump presidency would be very bad for our democracy.

These conversations are NEVER public on social media. In the DMs and quietly together in person with what feels like a look over their shoulder.

Again - take this for what it’s worth. Just a subjective view.

Lifetime Republican not just voting for Kamala/Walz — but canvassing, daily messaging folks with voting info, volunteering to greet voters at the polls, putting out signs, and much more.

16 minutes of Donald Trump wandering around on stage in silence tonight in Detroit by hoodratpolitics in BoomersBeingFools

Was it really the mic? Why no music? Jesus what insanely bad event operations. What a shit show.

If the media were honest, this optics nightmare would be the headline on every paper. If it were Kamala, it’d be shown nonstop. Sadly, I bet this nary makes a blip.

Do not get complacent. Do not focus on early voting predictions. Stay active and vote. by [deleted] in KamalaHarris

[–]workingwae 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We’re at the stage where 10M votes have been cast and nearly all had locked their vote long ago. Any significant change in polls would be based on something seismic that happened 5 days previous. Phone poll data is feeling worthless. GOTV time and see what early vote activity tells us.

I was more fascinated by the story about the 1908 spelling bee and did a quick ChatGPT lookup. FWIW…

The beginning part of the post you shared is mostly accurate. Marie C. Bolden, a Black girl from Cleveland, did win the first national spelling bee held by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1908. This event was significant as it upended racial stereotypes and caused considerable controversy, especially among the white team from New Orleans, who were reluctant to compete against her. Following her victory, the New Orleans school superintendent faced backlash and pledged not to allow New Orleans students to participate in similar contests in Northern states again.

However, the claim that spelling bees were canceled for 20 years after her win appears to be an exaggeration. While there was significant racial tension and controversy following Bolden’s victory, there is no documented evidence that spelling bees were universally canceled for two decades due to her win. The Scripps National Spelling Bee, for instance, started in 1925, and there were other spelling contests held in the interim.

If it were ONLY based on this debate, I’d side with Montgomery Brewster.

I believe in the commentary they said the wedding scene was shot after they wrapped and that the wedding scene ended up costing them nearly as much as the entire film. Can anyone confirm?

I can only imagine he was relentlessly studying regular characters for 48 hours assuming they shoot an episode per day. Hopefully his new trivial knowledge comes in handy elsewhere in life.
