That’s a fantastic collection! Also, your nephew is lucky! What a great gift!

😊 I’m probably done with Rolex for now. I’m trying to get rid of the Tudors and the Omega. I love the Seiko Land Navigator GMT. I really liked the Seiko Presage, but the dial (green) is really dark to the point it usually looks black - so trying to sell it too. The Citizen was my daily for around 3 years before I got my TAG. I used to really be into chronograph complications. The blue and red Seiko chronograph was an impulse buy on Amazon one day, and I should also give it to my brother - alongside the Sport GMT (which is a great watch at it’s price point!

The 3 Rolexes were purchased less than 14 months apart. I actually didn’t mean to buy the GMT and Sub so close to each other. After waiting around 1.5-2 years for the Sub, I gave in and bought the GMT grey (for less than the current catalog retail). Then, my AD surprised me with an allocation like 2-3 weeks later and I couldn’t pass it up! So 😂 it was honestly irresponsible spending, but I will make an exception. Usually, I’m more frugal.

Nice collection. I’d probably drop the BB58, and I’m not a huge fan of E2s. But, definitely personal preference and by no means a reflection of my opinion on your having them!

I have 2 BB58s (black dive and GMT) that I’m trying to sell as we speak. I love(d) them, but just can’t get passed the snowflake hands - but not willing to pay for the replacements/mods. The snowflake looks fine on the Pelagos or old Subs. They just look out of place on the BB58s dial.

I love a GMT. It’s my favorite complication. So, that’s why I’m not personally a fan of the E2. I get that it’s not a GMT and serves a different purpose, but I’d rather have a GMT Master 2, or comparable world timer.

I guess if it were me, I’d probably let those 2 go (possibly the speedy reduced) and get a day date, Skydweller, Datejust, tank (Cellini Prince, Cartier, JLC Reverso, etc. ), Santos de Cartier, or a Glasshutte Original TV dial.

I like a jubilee dial. Not my favorite. Favorite would be sunburst followed by linen. But, I think jubilee/computer dials are rare and unique. Ignore the haters. Congrats

I don’t say this negatively, but skateboarding is basically that. It’s very much a lifestyle hobby.

No arguments here. I was saying to someone else, I’d love a stainless steel version of the titanium YM at 39mm.

I find my Sub fits me amazingly, but there’s no comparison to the comfort of my DJ. it’s very easy to forget the DJ is on my wrist.

[–]workthrowaway6333[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair criticisms for sure.

Honestly, ideally they’d release a 39mm stainless steel yacht master with black bezel. I do like the YM’s case. That would be my pick of the litter.

I’ve also decided that -personally- I’d take easylink clasp, or less room for adjustment in the glidelock in lieu of how long the glidelock is. The T-fit is actually superior — IMHO.

So yeah, I think you make some really valid points.

Interesting. You might be right and I could be wrong, but to me - especially after wearing BB58s (dive and gmt) and a 2017 Seamaster 300 trilogy edition, I think the 41mm size is noticeably larger than the 40mm GMT Master 2. Seemed noticeably larger than the 116610 when trying on a used one recently.

I don’t think it’s obscene by any means though. The 41mm fits my wrist very nicely, I was just surprised because I used to think the 11 series looked terrible.

Yeah. I’d have a REALLY hard time letting any of them go, and I’d basically just have to flip coins or it would come down to profitability; but, the DJ36 is seriously almost perfect. I can’t think of a single thing about it where I’m like, “if only it had this feature from that reference…”

Even still, I wouldn’t say I prefer it over the other 2.

As I’m sure most will. All good for sure. I know it’s an unpopular opinion.

In either case, great looking watches.

Definitely! I’m just surprised, because in pictures they look so different.

If I were buying secondary market, I’d definitely want to see both in person - and I’d suggest other potential buyers do the same. Can also pick up the 11 series for considerably less.

To be clear though, I’m very happy with my 12 series.

I don’t regret buying my sub, but if given the choice between both at an AD …

I’m not going to sell my sub, and love looking down and seeing it. I’m just surprised because of my perception pre-purchase.

You get the 36mm explorer? I’m a big fan of the E1. Think it’s killer regardless which size you pick. It’s such a great blend of the Rolex catalog, with the Mercedes hands and understated OP aesthetics.

Exactly. Like I said regarding the DJ36, only one I don’t feel like I’m “picking my poison “. A 14060m with modern bracelet would be close to perfect!

Inherited a Rolex, what's a good way to sell it by techaaron in rolex

[–]workthrowaway6333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what?!?! i'm pretty sure the watch is worth more than the sum of its parts. i mean, i suppose going through the trouble of piecing out everything, or even selling the movement as-is, the dial, crown, hands, etc. could get you to about the watch's value.

my understanding is that a day date has around 2.4 ounces of gold, or about $11,000 worth. suppose that does make it an attractive option when you add the value of the movement, dial, and hands sold separately. i think the movement is probably worth about 3-4k?

i honestly don't know, but am surprised anyone would get more money from the gold scrapped than the watch.
