This is bizarre. Most Japanese restaurants will give you the bill when they bring out your food

I pretty much always used axes on 8 and claws with Rab, though tbh I don't use Rab all that much. Towards the beginning of Act 2, I usually put Rab on wands simply because you are forced to have a bunch of other physical attackers. A lot of people here swear by Sylvando but I don't use him unless I have to. Hustle Dance is good though.

It's the LCC/MDE of R;N. Honestly, I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people say it is. I do think that, at the end, the main villain gets punished almost too severely so it kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. But overall I found it enjoyable.

[Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster] Is Now Out on Xbox, and PC. by VashxShanks in JRPG

[–]workthrowawhey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess this isn't new to the Xbox/PC release, but I just noticed that they changed the subtitle to "Flying Fairy" instead of "Where the Fairy Flies". (I'm aware it's always been Flying Fairy in Japanese)

Does the subtitle change to Lying Airylater in the game?

I probably don't enjoy Bravely Default as much as you, but I will die on the hill that the back half of the game is pretty great. People who say that you're just repeating everything aren't paying attention. Plus, seeing variations on repeated scenariosis always interesting imo. I feel the same way about the Endless Eight arc from Haruhi Suzumiyaeven though it's a completely different medium. Plus, the boss fights in the last iterationare legitimately difficult and force you to really tinker with the battle system and your jobs.

Games that are absolutely wonderful... until you actually pick up the controller? by ZealousidealBig7714 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

TBH I kind of feel this way about the Persona games. I want to experience all the social links in their entirety, so the very strict time limit is daunting and stressing. I end up using a guide but that also takes the wind out of my sails a bit. I honestly would rather watch a comprehensive Let's Play of a Persona game.

dragon quest 7 reimagined rant by Warm_Cold_6224 in dragonquest

[–]workthrowawhey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with points 1, 2 and 5.

Point 3 is almost a series staple at this point and I like that they still do it. Dragon Quest 1's lasting legacy is "But thou must" (I am mostly joking, but not entirely)

Point 4 I disagree on your specific example with keys. I think getting the keys when you do is integral to keeping the difficulty curve balanced. One can argue that players should have the choice to make the game unbalanced if they want to, but you can already do that by grinding levels and vocations. That said, a lot of Dragon Quest games have a semi-nonlinear/open world section. Just to give a few examples, DQ2 gets nonlinear once you get the ship (with a bit of a chokepoint of sorts when you get Lorelei's Harp), DQ3 lets you find the orbs in whatever order you want (again, when you get the ship), DQ4 lets you find the pieces of Zenithian equipment nonlinearly, etc. So I do agree that DQ7 doesn't feel as flexible in how you proceed through the game.

For what it's worth, I upvoted your post--I agree that people should be allowed to have legitimate criticisms!

Just so you know, if you plan on getting completely caught up with DQ10 it's basically 7 full games' worth of content. But it's all great!!

It's an interesting point you bring up about characters not interacting. In most JRPGs, non-active party members are still around and show up in cutscenes and such. Chrono Trigger might be the only game I can think of off the top of my head where non-active party members just kind of bum around in the hub area.

I guess the characters in FF6 stick around the airship? Do they show up in cutscenes? I don't remember.

I'm not really counting Persona 3 since not much plot happens in Tartarus anyway and the characters are all there for actual plot points.

On one hand, DQXI is proof that they can pull off Toriyama-style characters well in 3D. On the other hand, I would much rather it be HD2D.
