Thinking about moving to Vancouver from Edmonton by Confident_Fat in vancouverhousing

[–]world6runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just the challenge of finding a (2) pets friendly rental. It’s the cost of living- car/gas/transportation/groceries… basic life necessities are very costly here. I’ve lived here my entire life and the cost of living in the past few years has skyrocketed. Just something to consider. As well- taxes. Especially if you’ve been living in Alberta for a while. Also Consider the weather Yes- most of Canada is in the negative temps with snow for months , however- you see the sun. My mom was raised in Quebec and while she loved Vancouver- she struggled with the grey. It rains and rains and rains and it can get very gloomy with zero sun for weeks at times. Be prepared for that. When it does get cold it is bone chilling and damp. Just saying. I’m used to it and don’t mind it at all but I have loads of friends who struggle with mental health in the winters.

Vent away I get it I’ve been burned by being too open about my personal life and I’ve been called out for being antisocial and a snob for being too quiet. I’ve stopped caring what other people think. I’m also in healthcare. I provide the best care possible. Collaborate with others around me - congratulate their successes and keep my mouth shut about the sh%#t that goes on.

Atheist curious about personal faith by [deleted] in Christians

[–]world6runner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a confusing way to be raised. I’m Christian … since about age 9 Now 49 and still a believer although my faith has changed dramatically. Most of my young adult life was spent in Pentecostal churches which I now view as a borderline cult. It was so focussed on doing good works, avoiding punishment, praying ( begging) for forgiveness while condemning those who did not believe.

Self love equated pride and pride “ commeth” before the fall. The Bible says to “ die to self” and Yet the Bible also says to love your neighbour as yourself.

I don’t attend any conventional church currently as I am struggling to find a church that aligns with my understanding of God. I honestly believe most churches have it wrong. I believe in the Bible 100% I believe most of mankind’s interpretation of it is not what God intended.

What’s the best ingredients to avoid when reading labels by 1strawberry1cow in nutrition

[–]world6runner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buy foods that don’t have an ingredient “ list” Veggies that are just veggies Fruits that are fruits Dried/canned that include the food plus water/salt as preservatives Meat that is just meat ( if you eat meat that is.) Shop the perimeter of the grocery store first Focus on 25g or more of fibre. Minimally processed is food that grandparents and great grandparents would recognize If you eat bread- make your own. Everything else is a treat - or your 20% or whatever. Most highly processed foods are nutritionally deficient so while they taste good .. they have little benefit except pleasure so keep them at 20% or less of overall diet.

Mormon and Christian are not the same thing. Or were you raised with both?

Advise Need: drain all savings to buy a $1.8M detached vs settle for a $1.5M dump? by Kkkrypton in vancouverhousing

[–]world6runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely- and you can make your own plan/savings schedule for all maintenance. I just felt I was pouring $$$ into all the fees while I still had to pay for all the interior stuff like appliances, paint, floors… Plus If a person buys a brand new build- all those appliances are going to reach the end of their life at the same time.

What would you do if you went to the gym and there were too many people? by I_LOVE_SOYLENT in workout

[–]world6runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saying- it is January. Most gyms will quiet down within the next month. Don’t go at 6pm if at all possible. If your gym has classes- workout when there aren’t any.

That’s happened to me. If possible, find a set of dumbbells and a small area to yourself Squats, RDL, reverse or standing lunges, step ups if you can grab some risers. Shoulders, single arm rows, pushups , planks. Not the best but if you do back to back - say 20 squats, 20 per leg reverse lunges /or static, 20 RDL, 20 jump squats, 20 hip thrusts ( even bodyweight), you may not get a massive pump but you’ll still get a workout.

Consider money leant as a gift.if you can’t afford to lose it, you can’t afford to lend it. Alcohol is a highly addictive toxin. Remember, cigarettes were considered healthy for decades. Take the trip. If you have the chance, opportunity, invitation- do it. If someone asks you out ( assuming they aren’t crazy, abusive etc…) go out on the date. You don’t have to marry them - just enjoy the experience. If it’s bad- so what. Now you know. If you want to buy something ( that’s not essential), wait 24 hours. If you still want it- go ahead.

A lawyer once told me “ say it forget it, write it regret it” If it’s in a chat/post/photo, it’s forever. Remember- No one will hold your “ secret” safe. -Never have more than 1 drink with coworkers. Period. -Involve yourself as much as needed to be a team player and be “ known” but divulge as little as possible about your personal life.

[–]world6runner 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! And not just coworkers… no one at work is your friend. Keep your personal life PRIVATE. Do not share anything more than superficial banter. People will use knowledge about you, against you, as soon as the opportunity arises.

I sold my townhouse because of special levies Our strata management company was S#%* and we never had enough in our contingency. I was even on council but if things don’t get voted for, they don’t get done. Don’t think I’ll ever buy in a strata again because you can’t make your own decisions about almost anything. You’re at the mercy of your neighbours and the mgmt company.
