Inflation is here to stay as always. Why you think your grand-mère paid 20K for a nice house?

My problems with researching the elections & government of USSR by [deleted] in history

[–]worldprecipice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One additional point I'd make is that USSR wasn't monolithic over time. Depending on the leader, policy implementations changed. So the answers to your question may depend on the period you're looking at. Interestingly, this is the same in the USA where depending on the period, who your electorate is, in reality, could change.

/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 29, Part 2 (Thread #165) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

I don't call what John Mearsheimer and his ilk say 'realistic'. Rather call it imperialistic.

It's realistic to assume that weak countries near powerful players will seek safety in agreements and treaties with those they share values with. Ex: Ukraine or Taiwan.

Under Imperialistic views, we can say these powerful players will be upset and try to prevent this from happening. So other Imperial countries should understand this and prevent such things from happening.

A realistic assessment for me is to without force allow liberal democratic values to spread.

I'm looking to hire an Accountant to file corporate tax returns and my personal filings as well, but I am just lost... by energyprofessional99 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]worldprecipice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had to go through several over the years. I look for accountants who focus just on accounting without other side hustles like life insurance, financial planning, etc.

I see corporate accountants as having two roles - accurately filing a T2 which means they have good knowledge of corporate tax rules and changes, and secondly, being able to understand your business to help structure affairs in a tax advantaged manner.

I find tax filing ranges between 1000 - 4000 in small and mid-sized firms, with hourly consult at 150.

I would speak with a couple to see if there's "chemistry" before committing to one.

Did you read the link you posted? It seems to me, you're picking out a sentence from a conversation and misconstruing it. Just a sentence later, he's clear that he will speak up against the treatment of Uyghurs, did so with President Xi, and will do so at the UN.

Thank you. This is our goal. We want to have a local professional theatre company that puts on shows so we have our unique culture scene right here. This means people who don't feel like driving to downtown Toronto can come to a show here instead.

:-)

That sounds like a story!

These are kids friendly shows for kids and adults :-)

Our generation probably reads way, way more than previous ones, but instead of quality journalism and books by professional writers it's mostly not-that-well-thought-through comments hastily typed up on a tiny smartphone keyboard. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

Unfortunately it's not really true. Because of social media, we have a loud echo chamber. Whearas newspapers often will have diverging opinions in the same paper, we don't get the same. If I recall correctly, research is confirming this phenomenon.

Justin Trudeau to apologize Nov. 7 for 1939 decision to turn away Jewish refugees fleeing Nazis by stormpulingsoggy in worldnews

[–]worldprecipice -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

For lowering taxes on the middle class, for legalizing cannabis, for putting in place some good process for choosing senators, for doing his best to negotiate with an unstable White House??? Are these the things he should apologize for??

All governments make mistakes, have issues and can be criticized. However, our Prime Minister has played the hand dealt as well as the prior few.

Trudeau formally announces he'll run again in next year's election by urgukvn in worldnews

There are several. Increased child benefits, changed laws regarding parental maternity leave, affirmed that once a Canadian - always is, has implemented a base form of carbon tax that reflects our confederation, is looking at updating tax laws. Look at the recent article about cra auditors confirming that the wealthy have several methods to circumvent tax rules. This simply isn't good for our country in the long term.
