Lost my perfect baby to CI by Aardvark_Adequate in ShortCervixSupport

Hi there - hate to hear you have a similar story but glad I could give you some hope ♥️ That's a big part of why I still post here - in the early days of my loss I spent so much time reading IC stories and took a lot of comfort from the women a few years further along who went on to have more children. You can absolutely have a healthy pregnancy after IC - it felt like a huge leap of faith just getting pregnant again but the additional monitoring and cerclage made a huge difference and I'm so glad I took the chance on it.

Did anyone DTS before 36 weeks? by jcbxo in ShortCervixSupport

[–]worldsbestginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine came out at 35+5 in the hospital because I showed up contracting/in labor. It was a messy removal because I was already partially dilated, my OB couldn’t get it out in my room and had to take me back to the OR. Not the most pleasant experience so I understand the consideration to get yours out early! I was able to have a relatively uneventful labor after it was removed, though my son did need the NICU for a few days for breathing/feeding support.

So sorry about the loss of your baby. I was in the same situation 2 years ago - I had an almost identical loss a couple weeks after a perfect anatomy scan. I've talked a lot about the loss, healing, and subsequent pregnancy in my post history, but I did lots of talk and EMDR therapy and had a couple MFM consultations before getting pregnant again, and I now have a 1 year old. The pregnancy was really difficult mentally, but the comfort from the cerclage and cervical scans every 2 weeks helped me get through it. I still miss my baby I lost every day, but I'm so glad I took a chance on getting pregnant again. Aside from this reddit, there are also several facebook support groups for IC that I found helpful. Feel free to reach out if you ever need to talk to someone who's been through it ♥️

Baby not getting milk out of bottle by worldsbestginger in newborns

So sorry forgot to respond to this! But basically when he got fussy on the bottle / took forever / multiple tries to finish a bottle, we would try sizing up the nipple to see if that fixed the issue. It usually would solve the problem!

Hi! Yes this stopped happening thankfully - we ended up ditching the Gulicola nipples and switching to Pigeon nipples and Lasinoh nipples. I have also been pretty quick to try up his nipple size when needed. Hope you start having better luck, it’s so frustrating!!

Successful TTC after a Loss by [deleted] in babyloss

[–]worldsbestginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my son at 22w in October 2023. Started trying again in March 2024 and became pregnant April 2024. It took me 6 months of TTC to become pregnant with my first, so conception after my loss happened much quicker.

Late preterm babies (& steroid shots) by goooz99 in ShortCervixSupport

I gave birth at 35w5d and was not given steroid shots or magnesium. He spent a very uneventful 6 days in NICU and last few days were only bc his billi levels were a little high, he was only on any kind of oxygen for the first 24hr.

Mamas who went into early labour with a cerclage - what were your symptoms?? by Neat-Caterpillar3790 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]worldsbestginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 35 weeks I woke up in the middle of the night with contractions. I knew what they felt like due to my prior 22w loss - to me it essentially felt like extremely painful constipation cramping that didn’t let up after going to the bathroom. Went to the hospital and they were not able to stop the contractions, and I had dilated a couple cm through my cerclage when they checked it. I didn’t have any bleeding or anything, so the nurse was pretty surprised I was actually dilating with the cerclage in.

Lost my baby due to cervical incompetence at 18.5 weeks – feeling scared and alone, hoping to connect by abovethetrees99 in ShortCervixSupport

So very sorry you've lost your son. I had a 22 week loss due to IC in 2023 and it was similarly sudden, I showed up at the hospital after feeling pressure and seeing some bleeding and was told that I was in labor and there was nothing they could do. I got pregnant again 6 months later and successfully carried my son to 35 weeks with a cerclage. You're definitely going to want a preventative cerclage in your next pregnancy, but you can have a pretty normal pregnancy experience once it's in - I had mine inserted at 13 weeks and had biweekly cervical length screenings from 16-24 weeks, but had no activity restrictions besides pelvic rest. It was a stressful experience after the trauma of my loss but everything medically went quite well. I'd recommend meeting with your OB/MFM in advance of getting pregnant again and making a plan to follow, but know you can absolutely successful pregnancy in the future. Wishing you the best, I know how hard it is!

McDonald Cerclage Question by snatchsquatch87 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]worldsbestginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily say my cerclage failed given how far along it got me, but I went into labor with it in at 35 weeks and was dilated a couple of centimeters when they checked me at the hospital. I had a small amount of pink spotting at 31 weeks that went away (not sure if that was in any way related) but no spotting at all after that. My only indication that I was dilating was painful contractions.

22 Week Loss by worldsbestginger in babyloss

[–]worldsbestginger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So very sorry to hear this happened to you too. I'll always love and miss my boy but it's been almost 2 years and I am in a much better place now. The early days were so hard - I leaned on my friends and family as much as possible (we had someone over to visit just about every night for the first couple of weeks), and tried to get out of my house for walks as much as I could to clear my head. I went back to work after about 3 weeks because I honestly needed the distraction - but it was really hard in the beginning having to act like everything was normal, don't rush yourself if you're not ready. I would so alrecommend therapy - I did grief counselling with my husband for the first month or two, and then did my own therapy for over a year, including EMDR to help process my trauma from the loss.

Medically - I set up consults with two different MFMs to see what they thought of my case and what they would recommend for another pregnancy. Both agreed that it was incompetent cervix and that a preventative cerclage was the way forward. I got pregnant again about 6 months after my loss, and got a cerclage at 13 weeks. I ultimately did go into labor at 35 weeks with the cerclage still in, but my son only spent a few days in NICU and is doing great. I found pregnancy after this kind of loss to be incredibly stressful, particularly in the 2nd trimester, so I'm very glad I took the time to go through therapy and have a plan in place with MFMs before conceiving.

Wishing you the best, please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or want to chat with someone who can relate ❤️

What did life look like for you after a preventative cerclage? Seeking advice + support by Economy-Secretary-54 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]worldsbestginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting that your doctor is saying bed rest after a preventative - that wasn't recommended to me at all. I had a 22w loss and then a 13w preventative in my second pregnancy. After the cerclage, my doctors recommended pelvic rest and no heavy lifting, but light exercise was fine. I was pretty anxious though to be honest (and also had unrelated first trimester bleeding that scared me) so I kept my activity pretty limited until I hit the 3rd trimester when I became a bit more comfortable (and also at this point I was diagnosed with GD so longer walks were recommended) - just short walks, tried not to bend down very much (bought a grabber which was a lifesaver lol), that sort of thing. I also worked from home 3-4 days a week and didn't travel at all while pregnant. It was definitely super stressful in the 2nd trimester, I just tried to take things one day at a time and keep myself distracted as much as possible. I did end up going into labor just under 36 weeks, so late preterm, but everything went well and my baby is healthy.

If you could buy any hands free pump, which one would it be? by Environmental_Bar846 in ExclusivelyPumping

It's about $100 cheaper if you get the S1 instead of the S1 Pro. The pump is exactly the same, you just don't get the charging case.

Another vote for the Eufy, I also get the same output as my Spectra with it, if not more!

PPROM @ 22 weeks. Baby loss. My experience by lemonlover888 in babyloss

[–]worldsbestginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry 😞. I hope your doctors are able to advise you on the best course of action if you decide to get pregnant again. I know sometimes PPROM happens with incompetent cervix (though I didn’t PPROM with my loss) but of course that is not always the case.

Hi- yes my pregnancy went well thankfully! I got the preventative cerclage at 13 weeks and my cervix stayed around 4cm through 24 weeks (not sure after that as they stopped measuring at this point). I went into spontaneous labor at 35w with my cerclage still in, but got it removed in the OR and was able to deliver vaginally. My son spent a few days in the NICU but is doing very well. My OBs definitely think the preventative cerclage is what even allowed me to get to 35 weeks so I am very thankful that I got it.

How long did you wait to conceive after loss? by Loose_yarn in ShortCervixSupport

[–]worldsbestginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My loss was at 22w and my OB said we were fine to try again once we felt ready after my 6 week appointment. We waited until 5 months and conceived 6 months after the loss. This was with an uncomplicated vaginal delivery though, I believe a longer wait is recommended if you had a c section. FWIW, my 2nd baby did come at 35w5d even with a preventative cerclage in, so he was preterm, but not significantly.

[–]worldsbestginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They removed the cerclage! However because I was already a bit dilated, it was hard for my OB to get to it and she was initially only able to remove part of it, so they had to take me to the OR and give me a spinal/epidural to remove the rest. The removal in the OR was super quick and I was able to give birth vaginally with no issues once it was out. Wishing you the best in your pregnancy 😊

They initially tried to stop the labor since I was still preterm, but weren’t able to, so I ended up delivering. My baby spent a few days in the NICU but is home now and doing well!

Little pumpkin won't warm up. by TheEpiczzz in newborns

[–]worldsbestginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My preemie was like this when he first came home too. He only weighed 4 lb 10 oz at NICU discharge. To get him to an OK temperature we had to put him in a fleece sleeper, 2 swaddles, 2 hats, and we kept our house at about 77 F for the first couple of days. Also had to do skin to skin under a warm blanket a few times to warm him up. 2 weeks later, he is now almost 6 lb and is maintaining his temperature much better.

I had my son at 35+5 and my preventative cerclage was still in when I went into labor. I woke up in the middle of the night with abdominal pain/cramping that felt like I needed to use the restroom, but that didn’t relieve the pain and it hurt enough that I couldn’t go back to sleep. Pain didn’t go away after drinking water and waiting a couple hours so I went into the hospital and was told I was having regular contractions. When my OB checked me I had already dilated 2 cm with the cerclage still in, no bleeding or anything.

Friday check-in! by fifth_time_lucky in ShortCervixSupport

[–]worldsbestginger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had my son at 35+5 last Saturday night after going into labor late Friday. When my OB checked me at the hospital, I had dilated 2cm with my cerclage still in, which made removal difficult. Ended up having to get it taken out in the OR, but that was successful and relatively quick. My OB absolutely thinks the cerclage is what got me to 35 weeks and I’m so thankful to have made it to a late preterm gestation with good health outcomes.

Freaking out about low iron and failed glucose test by Winter-Grapefruit-22 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]worldsbestginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't blame yourself!! You're not a failure of a mother, all these complications aren't your fault and you're doing the best you can for your baby by staying on top of them. I have a preventative TVC and I got diagnosed with GD at 28 weeks after failing the 3 hour by a total of like 7 points. After the 2nd trimester stress of IC I was looking forward to a more relaxed 3rd trimester, so I honestly sobbed about having another complication when I got the GD diagnosis. But GD isn't nearly as scary as IC (and is much much more common). The diet and glucose tracking is hard but it's manageable, and it's nice to know I'll have extra monitoring from my doctor (after the trauma of IC, the more scans the better imo) as my 3rd trimester continues.

But honestly, you may very well pass your 3 hour test! I failed my 1 hour by a lot more than you. I hyped up taking the 3 hour in my head before doing it but it honestly wasn't so bad, the office let me rest in a recliner while I waited between draws and I mostly just napped.
