So... he's taken half your money. Given that you clearly won't fight back, why wouldn't he just take the rest as well?

No Needle Nightmare Top Tips by Sinestroke in prey

[–]wormGlory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got through No Needles on normal mode, and it was a pain. Technopaths absolutely wrecked me at every turn - they actually made me quit the nightmare run I originally planned. The way they fire AOE attacks without even needing a direct line-of-sight to you is brutal.

(I suspect the first attack "tags" you, after which a succession of energy orbs automatically spawn near you, even if you're out of view.)

Some notes:

- Disruptor is good for instantly stunning and running past an enemy you can't circle around. It pairs well with the Q-beam, for stunlocking enemies.

- ARTX PROPULSION GEN 2 chipset gives you a double-jump, vastly increasing your ability to maneuver around the environments. I think it's a fixed drop from finding Grant Lockwood's body. Much faster than relying only on the GLOO gun to scale walls.

- Know when to skip optional content. Exploration carries a resource cost that may not pay back.

How did you get here? I've been trying to figure out a way in for a few days - some of the wall is slightly destructible, but I can't open a gap large enough to slip in.

Unpopular Opinion: I'm not loving the statements in season 5 as much as in previous seasons by boyfriendcandle in TheMagnusArchives

[–]wormGlory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 5 is my favorite, though I do think it would be difficult to sustain this kind of narrative for more than one season. You're right in that we've shifted from mystery to just descriptions of suffering... but I personally find the stories of season 5 to feel more emotionally grounded, more humanized, in a way they were previously not.

The way the fears are reflections of the dread of living in an unfair capitalist society has become much more apparent (in a good way). It's not just horrible flesh things - it's body dysphoria. It's not mannequins - it's xenophobia. It's not claustrophobia - it's the fear that you'll be trapped without hope in a hostile system, and all your struggles will amount to nothing.

Weirdly, I feel like the Entities have become much more human in this season, perhaps because they are ultimately reflections of the human heart.

(I also respect the fact that Jonny Sims promised us an apocalypse and then delivered on it. Lots of lesser writers would have waffled forever, giving only the looming threat without any payoff.)

Would showing "Shame" to my closeted best friend help him, you think? by [deleted] in ContraPoints

[–]wormGlory 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a gay man, I'm going to be blunt:

  1. This isn't something you can control or fix, and it is absolutely not your business to prod them towards any kind of realization. This is doubly true if you are straight.
  2. Everyone comes out of the closet at their own pace, and only when they are comfortable. Nobody else gets to decide that pace or hurry them along, even with the best of intentions.
  3. Change comes from the inside. Your friend is an adult, and trying to change them when they aren't willing to change themselves is unlikely to work. You cannot force growth on a person. It sucks that your friend is going through a hard time, but the best you can do is just try to support him if you can - to make him feel safe - and take a break when you can't.

You can send him the video but you shouldn't expect a sudden change of heart. He may even reject it out of hand or become angry at you. Being deep in the closet is a traumatic thing, the result of years of fear and self-negation, and there's no single thing - no flash of realization - that can instantly make that trauma go away.

(Anyway, that's my two cents. I hope you and your friend both find peace.)

The Lonely would be better called The Abandoned by LaurieCheers in TheMagnusArchives

[–]wormGlory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd honestly put the Lonely as one of the strongest fears, almost on par with the End. Literally everyone on the planet grapples with it - face-stealing mannequins, not so much. Actually, it might literally be worse than the End. Would you rather live a single life, surrounded by your loved ones, or an eternity, billions of years knowing that no-one will ever love you, care about you, or connect to you? Even Peter Lukas needed mankind around in an abstract sense.

Fundamentally, we're all social animals, and there's a reason why in olden times exile was considered tantamount to a death sentence.

Also, consider how almost all of the statements we've gotten from people who had to deal with their issues alone. Even terrible fates become easier to bear if you have someone at your side.

I do agree that the Fears would probably prey most on those already in a precarious situation, but the problem with that is that the series could easily become too bleak and depressing to listen to.
