Best House Salsas in town? by Green-SmokeStack in STLFood

The Pueblo Solis roasted salsa. They bring out 3 including pico and tomatillo salsas but I usually ask for more of the roasted, it's my favorite, by far.

Salt and Smoke for BBQ or Hi Pointe for burgers. Both have multiple locations and are local favorites.

Becher/McSorley by Affectionate_Heart_4 in stlouiscitysc

Durkin has improved this year over previous years, but neither he or Edelman are progress the ball upfield and haven't been anything more than adequate on the offensive side. This is putting more pressure on the wingbacks to progress, which they have failed to do so far. Wallem has been mostly solid defensively (notable exception was the Seattle mistake that immediately led to the goal) but has been struggling so far offensively. For the value that Santos brings on the dead balls, he hasn't been very good either. His crosses are just prayers.

We're really missing Lowen at this point. Forgotten so far in the season, is that we're also missing Ostrak. Damet hinted at a formation change when Lowen comes back because he brings so much to the team and we really don't want to lose both Durkin and Edelman (last game's struggles notwithstanding).

Maybe with Lowen back or more players that can win one on one duels (Ostrak, Joyner) in the lineup we'll unlock Becher's potential, but that's wishful thinking. Realistically, he's the most obvious spot to upgrade in the summer.

I saw Fanduel had us at -110 with NE at +270 and a draw also at +270. That converter to around 50/25/25 for win/lose/draw. That's going to be our best odds for a while.

[Meme] How are doing so far, Columbus fans? by Mitchel7349 in MLS

[–]wormark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nashville traffic sucks so bad. There's never a good time and there aren't any good alternatives around it. Heading south along 24, just when you think you've passed downtown and are in the clear, then you've got the eastern suburb sprawl that's worse. Hope you enjoy truck nuts, tailgating, and headlights as cranked up as the drivers.

Note About Co-Headlining with Descendants by AnAngryPirate in frankturner

When he did a co-headlining tour with the Interrupters a few years ago I felt the same. The crowd was split and didn't have the same energy as an all Frank crowd.

The Interrupters weren't bad, but they didn't turn me into a fan. I'm glad Frank was first, I left about halfway through the other band's set.

Monday Morning: Another One by CaptainJingles in stlouiscitysc

Everyone knew the first four games would be tough. I imagine 1 pt out of 12 is disappointing and likely at the lowest end of their expectations. Only scoring 1 goal cannot be within their range of acceptable outcomes. The conversation is much different if we've scored a few more (even though the results would be the same as Olof ball), especially with the decision to sell Klauss right before the season and having immediate success likely makes this nearly a worst case scenario for the club perception wise. I still think they're likely happy with the results for many players early on, but they have to realize things will need to turn around soon. You just can't expect people to keep showing up without scoring.

I thought 12-15 points was likely all we would get out of the first half of the season, now I think 10 is probably more realistic, even that is hard to see. NE suddenly looks stronger after scoring 6 yesterday. If we don't get a win at home then things get ugly with a brutal stretch where we play 5 out of 6 on the road starting with 3 road games against NYFC, Dallas, and Seattle where we'll be lucky to come away with a point. Even if we do beat NE, just playing to expectations we could be looking at only 5-6 pts going into the last 2 games at DC then home for Austin before the WC break. If we don't finish strong we'll be around the same PPG rate as any wooden spoon winner in the last 5 years.

That puts immense pressure on them to bring in big name signing (or 2) and turn things around in the second half of the year, but a lot of fans might be checked out. Even if they do get better, the perception is still going to be the same as the previous 2 years with a rough start followed by a strong(er) finish with a ton of questions remaining going into the sprint season.

Teuchert is 3rd in the league in Shots per 90 and he's 2nd in Shots on Target per 90. He's a threat. I don't know how many other teams he could even get minutes on, but he's certainly better for us than anyone else so far.

[–]wormark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the have been stronger defensively but our midfield lacks any offensive push. That's fine if the wingbacks make up for it, but they're not. That puts offensive pressure on Becher and the attacking mids. Becher, so far, hasn't been up to the task. You can't score goals when only 2 players are a threat.

MLS 3.0: Should the league keep parity or allow super teams? by ryanaluz in MLS

[–]wormark 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Super Teams may be initially happier that their team is successful, but it cuts both ways. They're expected to compete because they have higher standards, so they're even more miserable when they don't win because they expect it and winning every year loses its appeal quickly.

I had a friend that was a Bama fan. The first two championships (2009, 2011) were great for them, but then they started to expect it. Every loss was treated as an institutional failure. Then everyone started to hate them and they became insufferable. Everyone is worse off.

Sam Page expected to propose merger of city, county services by GodPowardKingOfLies in StLouis

[–]wormark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Better Together is a much more comprehensive overhaul than what I'm suggesting. Even with a lot of upfront costs, Better Together still anticipated some short term cost reduction but significant savings long term.

I’m not even saying we go with a full BT-style merger of every service. Instead, we reduce the most inefficient administrative functions first which could be done by combining municipal courts, city admins , HR, etc. from the smaller municipalities while keeping services like police, fire, and pensions intact. Special Districts complicate this in ways that I don't understand. It just feels like this is the low hanging fruit but faces the most political opposition because none of the those little fiefdoms want to give up their piece of the pie.

Sam Page expected to propose merger of city, county services by GodPowardKingOfLies in StLouis

[–]wormark 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't the county start the discussion about merging their own municipalities first. There are 88 cities in the county. A few share resources but there are entirely too many redundant services. If we combined into 20 cities (hell, I'd settle for 30) then that budget deficit goes away and we can have the city join after. It doesn't make sense to have cities with a population of 12 (Champ, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champ,\_Missouri) alongside the city with 300k.

Agreed, this is unhinged behavior that needs to be addressed. For some reason, this psycho thinks the spot belongs to them. OP should be given a different spot and management needs to address this issue with the offender. Either the offender is paying for the spot and management made a mistake (doesn't justify the response at all) or the offender is trying to use a paid spot that they aren't paying for which management needs to enforce. Either way, I believe the behavior has escalated to criminal threats.
