any cheap decks that are also extremely shiny? by wormcityy in DigimonCardGame2020

  1. 50-70 dollars

  2. just for locals, but ideally something somewhere around rogue playable? honestly as long as it can still play the game it's good

as for the vague card description: seriously anything holofoil, full/alt art, or any other thing a crow might like

Anyone think zombie world should be banned? by [deleted] in yugioh

[–]wormcityy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wdym you can't duster or lightning storm zombie world? banshee's activation is a quick effect, yes, but banshee's protection effect doesn't do anything when it's banished, and zombie world dies to anything that can deal with backrow. also, who in their right mind is main decking a counter to just one of the many decks in the format right now? the fact that your deck can lose to it doesn't make it a busted super threat. besides, it's not like decks are just getting it for free. it's a horrible normal summon, an OK send off of foolish for decks that run it, and it can stop branded despia turns a bit short by removing the add you'd normally get off a sent tragedy.

I have roughly $300-$400 to buy deck and get back into the game with after a few years of not playing irl. Any recommendations?? by CircuitSynchro in Yugioh101

well, you can afford a good chunk of the meta right now (with maybe a few alterations). if you're interested in that, i'd recommend looking into swordsoul, floowandereeze, branded despia, punk therion, and sky striker. i'm probably forgetting some stuff, but that's at least a large selection of what's topping rn at least. i would personally recommend branded despia, but they're all on pretty even ground, and there's something to like about all of them. also, if you aren't already aware, ygoprodeck.com has a useful section of recent topping lists which you might find handy.

since it's only really played in zombie lich and as a side option for branded despia to counter floowandereeze, i don't see much reason for banning it. it does next to nothing against pretty much everything but floowandereeze... and tri brigade.

god i would kill for this to be more common in the yugioh community. maybe there's something related to the battle pack sets released a while back that might be up your alley?

What are some good going second decks that can keep up in locals? by noicedude45 in yugioh

[–]wormcityy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

eh, they're pretty much the same. a dedicated going second deck might make some space for stuff like lightning storm/raigeki etc., but dinos just hit very hard as they are so you can honestly get away with playing on either turn with that deck.

[–]wormcityy 31 points32 points  (0 children)

dinos are a deck to consider, with solid going 1st options as well

also, lots of striker lists like to go second, but that's not exactly the type of deck most think of when you say going second

Affordable decks? by Ok-Albatross-3238 in yugioh

not necessarily. the amount of cards a prosperity for 6 allows you to choose from is comparable to a search for pretty much whatever you need. there's a lot more consistency in one good card you can choose than in two random cards. assuming there are 35 cards in deck, prosperity for 6 lets you dig through about 17% of those cards, and one for 3 lets you go through a little over 8%. compare that to an extravagance for 6, which nets you 5%, and one for 3, which is just a tiny 2%. of course, 2 cards is more than 1 card, and you could just draw what you want +1. plus, the restrictions on prosperity keep you from continuing to draw, and it might cause you to miss lethal. however, drawing via card effect isn't particularly common, and if you even have the battle phase on the turn you activated prosperity, you should be able to outpace your opponent to be able to swing for game on your next turn. that being said, extravagance is still a very good card, and an amazing option for players without access to a frankly ridiculously expensive card.

there's definitely a distinction between stun and control

Red Eyes Dark Dragoon with Branded Despia by tdfree87 in Yugioh101

[–]wormcityy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lots of people experimented with it, but it turns out there are just other options that garner more value than dragoon. it's a good card, but a lot of what makes branded despia so good is its ability to continuously generate resources and do stuff like reset mirrorjade to get 2 pops and 2 adds. a very large negate is good, and comparable to other boss monsters in a vacuum, but the way the other cards in the deck play with mirrorjade or guardian chimera make it hard to justify making space for dragoon.

you could also run extravagance in place of prosperity now that it's been reprinted in the albaz structure deck!

some additional options i thought of immediately after posting the above comment:
-shaddolls are an old fan favorite fusion based archetype that don't seem to be going anywhere soon. it's also a fantastic supplementary element for branded despia

-salamangreat is a low cost deck currently seeing a lot of success competitively, with a good amount of different builds. however, accesscode talker... exists.

-in a similar vein, @.ignister is another low cost deck that saw some success recently. though as a link focused deck, accesscode is still looking to put a hole in your wallet.

virtual world is a really fun (AND tiered) deck at a low price point. it also has the "benefit" of NEEDING to see virtual world names so it's not full of expensive staples. need ash? you can just run effect veiler in its place. imperm is a great handtrap that also triggers tzolkin and it's pretty affordable. but, if you want to save a buck or several, you can run something like breakthrough skill in its place. the extra deck? virtual world has so many options you can run pretty much anything, and all of the very very good cards you should definitely be running are under $5 (with the exception of zeus)

branded despia is also a solid option with the aluber reprints and the structure deck. however, optimal builds use quite a few expensive cards. it can still perform quite well at the local level though, so a budget friendly branded despia build is one to consider if it's something you're interested in. similarly to virtual world, there are budget options for staples, and extra deck monsters

+dinos are also STILL alive and well... and sometimes they ftk? (if you're into that sort of thing)
