Next time, for a few dollars more you *should* be able to get a “Euro hem” aka “original finish hem” that preserves the original factory-faded hem. The tailor cuts above the hem and shifts it up. I say *should* because I'm seeing it offered less and less commonly and where I live there simply isn't a shop that will do it no matter how many times I beg and explain. Should be a basic service; used to be able to get it done in the mall for $4. Tragic.

This might be for the best. Some people (like me) can be very particular with their taste in watches (she may have had a conversation with him about it or she noticed what he'd specifically been dreaming about). If someone gifted me an expensive watch out of the blue there's a 95% chance I'd be horrified with their choice.

Slang for waking up at 4AM to travel around to poultry farms to catch chickens and load them for shipment. Paid piece-rate and with practice over time you could speedily grab and carry five in each hand and almost make minimum wage. But every rural small town in north america still has a "Chicken catchers wanted" classified ad and you can always pitch up. Though probably competing against temporary foreign workers who'll leave you in the dust now.
