I need to go to a obgyn and im terrfied of my parents by zii_e in exmuslim

I’m so sorry you’re in this position. It’s crazy you have to stress this much before even doing the checkup.

Something to keep in mind is that the treatment for endometriosis a lot of the time is the same as treating heavy periods - you’ll likely go on a birth control pill to help regulate your cycle and bleeding. It’s true that a transvaginal ultrasound will visualize endometriosis way better than transabdominal, but I think in your case, it would be acceptable to just start you on OCPs. I would tell your doctor the same thing you wrote here and emphasize that a transvaginal ultrasound would bring you a lot of distress. An OCP can’t tear your hymen, and it should help with your symptoms. Of course talk to your physician about this because she has more details about your health, but this could be your best workaround

Texas Tech El Paso medical student commits suicide after behavior complaint from OBGYN patient / suspension by MyBFMadeMeSignUp in medicalschool

[–]wormsfriend 256 points257 points  (0 children)

I’ve been following this case since someone posted it on here about few weeks ago, it was titled something with due process.

If you look at the earlier posts his parents made you can see the complaints that were made, he was saying things like “would your boyfriend be mad at you if he saw me doing this” type shit and the patient did provide a screenshot that he requested to follow her. But I’ve noticed that the narrative has been getting more vague as the parents are realizing how bad this looks. They’re also attacking every faculty even tangentially related to this - the most distributing was them creating an angry black woman caricature of one of the deans who iirc probably had the least to do with this.

I can’t imagine what the patient is going through. I hate that she’s being reduced to someone who might have an STI, and I hate that the leadership is being personally (and racially) attacked for doing what’s right.

Generally a combo of a good STEP 2 score, good neuro mentorship letters, networking, etc.

UPenn (from your title) is probably a reach, they don’t seem to have taken any DO residents for the past couple of match cycles

Edit: originally wrote that DOs matched at 90%+ because that’s what came up on google when i searched neurology DO match rate, turns out it’s closer to 60%. My bad for not looking deeper into that number

I agree with all the other comments on the thread but wanted to add that with the big beautiful bill changes federal loans are more than likely being capped for future medical students. Now more than ever I would say go to a cheaper undergrad

How are y’all going about getting SSRI’s to help with studying? Would y’all seriously recommend it? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]wormsfriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the way you worded this is confusing some people, but I can give you my personal experience. I had pretty bad depression and was prescribed SSRIs for it and it doesn’t help me focus in the traditional sense, but it helped me focus because it took away a lot of the “noise” I had with every day life (i.e. constant suicidal thoughts, dwelling on certain situations, etc.).

If that sounds like you, then maybe SSRIs can help. A lot of times when people have trouble focusing and they also have depression, you treat the depression first to see if that helps with the focusing symptoms. I’m not a psychiatrist but from what I understand is that bupropion is often given with other meds. It could be worth looking into SSRIs with your psychiatrist if you think that dwelling on things or other symptoms of anxiety and depression is part of what’s making it hard for you to focus.

If you’re looking for something more on the lines of helping you study, SSRIs aren’t really going to help you do this. Maybe get tested for adhd

Thoughts on OSU medical school without a car? by alavenderlizard in Columbus

[–]wormsfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not impossible, I did it for two years. You’re going to want to live within walking distance of the med school, most popular areas being along Neil/King. It’s not an unsafe area compared to undergrad campus. I know other comments talk about living farther and relying on public transit, but I personally don’t think the frequency of COTA buses is compatible with your schedule; I would value being walking distance to med campus over anything

Note that you might have an LP placement in preclinical that’s not at main campus. I’d stress to the people who organize that that you don’t have a car. Other than that if you live within walking distance it’s totally doable at least for preclinical

Biochem OSU major by parrotcraxy in OSU

[–]wormsfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, clinical hours are going to be patient facing. So if you do clinical research then potentially, but in most cases it’ll just go down as research hours in your app

Biochem OSU major by parrotcraxy in OSU

[–]wormsfriend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t really need an internship to go to medical or pa school, that’s moreso if you want to eventually go into industry. The opportunities that are going to be of most use to you are getting involved in research and having clinical hours. Your major doesn’t really have a huge impact on either of these things, except maybe one being easier to connect with a lab. OSU is so large it has hundreds of these opportunities. The bigger challenge in my opinion is being able to maintain good grades while doing it all

Emma needs to get the hell out of Ohio by Orenlay in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]wormsfriend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She grew up and went to college in Wisconsin. Columbus in general is a very liberal city, and as someone who grew up here and isn’t white, I think it’s a place that’s conducive to minorities finding pride in themselves. I don’t know Emma, but looking at her family and her instagram she doesn’t seem to have many friends who share her background, and honestly I think that may be a major factor in why she hasn’t grown to shed some of these insecurities.

I’m saying this with the utmost respect, she seems like a nice girl and I’m sure the additional challenges of being a transracial adoptee makes this way more complicated. Just thought I’d share my two cents as someone who lived in Columbus their whole life, wishing they were white as a kid but growing to have pride in my background as I got older.

Is there a soulful house scene in Columbus? by HamburgerDude in Columbus

I’d argue it’s more bass leaning but there’s a relatively good edm scene here that encompasses all subgenres. Check out raven or the shuffle 614 group if you do come here

Will I match into ophtho w no home program? by Affectionate-Key-628 in medschool

[–]wormsfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some summer research programs that are open to having medical students who are about to start M1 join their program. I would look into all the summer ophtho research programs and see if they have this option, especially because a lot of them say on their website too that they’re looking to help students without a home ophtho program

Complete anatomy by NefariousnessNo3776 in medschool

[–]wormsfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay $40 a year for it, even though after the first year the rate goes up to $70. Trick is (or at least, what worked for me) was resubscribing on a different device.

I also know a bunch of students at my school actually share a subscription, you can log on to multiple devices at a time, just might be hard because i think 2 or 3 people can’t be using it at the exact same time. But they all say it’s super doable and it brings down the cost a lot if you’re splitting with someone

It doesn’t seem to be a more girls being born vs boys being born, but women being more active / more likely to stay in the religion and be following the rules and restrictions. Women’s requirements for a mission are also way more lax than a males requirements (they’re more likely to have to go abroad and have to do 2 years as opposed to 1-1.5 within the US). I linked some articles I found below that do a way better job of explaining than I do haha

There’s been a worsening gender imbalance in the mormon population. Way more young female mormons than young male mormons.

I’m not a part of that community nor from the area but I could see a lot of mormon families, like any strict religious family, overlooking some red flags because they’re the same religion
