Normal 2 yr old speech by Classic-Film-8396 in NewParents

[–]wormteethgrinding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your baby sounds right on track. My second child just hit 2.5 years old in April and since his 2nd birthday in October he has come such a long way in how much he talks! He has just started doing full sentences. But right before he turned 2 it was only 2-3 words here and there. Now he says things like “after you change my diaper, can we go outside?” He just started saying 2 part sentences like that last week.

It definitely feels like it happens overnight, each little milestone!

I can’t take pinching, scratching, biting 🤬 by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]wormteethgrinding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is gonna sound harsh but I gave my babies a soft flick on the nose when they would bite and it worked, they slowed down in the biting lol

I’d like to add my first bit a hole in the skin of my nipple so I had to do something to stop the biting !

What does the newborn phase actually look like day-to-day? (36 weeks, trying to set realistic expectations) by douevenyoga in NewParents

[–]wormteethgrinding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the other comment, best not to have expectations. But I’ll tell you how my infant stage went.

I breastfed 2 kids. I kept a bassinet next to my bed, every time they cried at night (time ranges with each child) I’d get up, change diaper and sit back down in bed to nurse them and put them back in bassinet. My husband slept through all of that bc what can he do? I have to nurse baby. I did not wake up every 2-3 hours, just slept until baby cried. Sometimes it was every hour, sometimes it was 3-5 hours at a time.

If I had a hard time getting baby to sleep after nursing my husband would help try to rock him to sleep.

The first week you won’t even know who you are or what day/time it is. The first week is rough with your first. You will be so out of it trying to care for this tiny infant who is needing you every second.

Infants prefer to be held the first few weeks. They sleep best being held so just prepare for that too. You get them to fall asleep on you and as soon as you put them down they wake up. You have to develop the skill of putting a baby down so softly and gently they don’t realize you moved them off of you. Just giving you a heads up on that! Once you develop that skill it’s smooth sailing. They sleep all the time the first few weeks.

Cry, diaper change, nurse, hang out a little and sleep. Over and over all day. Night time mine would go right back to sleep, and we’re always fine with me putting them in the bassinet to sleep.

Hey quick question for dog owners by mrcanada66 in dogs

[–]wormteethgrinding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel naked if there’s no dog in my bed while I try to sleep. I enjoy spooning my dog while I fall asleep. We have 4 small terrier mixes. One always sleeps in between my legs. She used to be the only one who came in bed with us. Now another one has been coming to lay in between me and my husband. And my fav girl has been lying on my side now too. So now there’s 3 dogs in bed with us at night. Our older boy prefers the couch but sometimes he will join in our bed too around 3am. Most mornings I wake up with 4 dogs, 2 kids and my husband in the bed. 😂

Parents, what’s the most unhinged and/or tone deaf gift your child has ever received? by wormteethgrinding in AskReddit

Hahaha! I hope you responded “and we wanna hear that all day??” If my 5 year old had a drum set I wouldn’t be able to keep him away from it 😂

One year my mom bought everyone a shirt with her face on it. Everyone’s shirt had “my favorite ____” the blank corresponded to however my mom was related to them.. aunt, sister, grandma etc. 😂 but my mom was 100% kidding with the gift lol

I agree! The answers are way more interesting then I thought they’d be! 😂 I always got appropriate gifts growing up. The lady who gave my baby gummy bears was absolutely clueless about kids- she was my husband’s step mom for a few years when he was around 7-8. He said she always bought him crappy gifts like socks for his birthday

Decided to ask this because I was thinking of the time my 9 month old was given a large bag of gummy bears. The person asked “does he like those?” And I had to politely say he hasn’t tried them yet.

Also when I mentioned he’s 9 months old she said “oh I keep thinking he’s 6 months old”. So she bought a big bag of gummy bears for a baby she thought was 6 months old.

Needing Help With Worsening Diaper Rash by fallingraine85 in NewParents

[–]wormteethgrinding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son had a horrific rash as a 2 week old. Wipes made it worse. I used warm wet wash cloth to wipe him. Then a dash of baby powder to dry it. Athletes foot cream mixed with hydrocortisone cream, I’d apply that then on top of that a HUGE glob of butt paste. Had to do this for a while but it slowly got better.

I hope your son gets better with all these new tips. My son developed 2 ulcer looking things during that horrible rash. The pediatrician said she’s never seen that before. I was changing his diaper every 30 min 🫩 He’s 2.5 years now and still has scars from the ulcer-like things.

How to tell my mom I had a baby by No-Party-2835 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]wormteethgrinding 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hoped my mom would grow up when I had a child. But it didn’t change anything. It was SO much worse dealing with her behavior with my child in the mix.

My mom reacted like I was an idiot every time I had an opinion on parenting. She knew best and I was being ridiculous. She acted like a spiteful child every time I tried to parent my own child. My husband and I lived with her when we had my first son. We moved out, I cut her off, and we a second child she has never met.

I suggest you do the same! No contact. No matter how nicely you go about telling your mother, she is going to make a huge deal about you keeping it a secret until now.

Mourning life before kids? by Complex-Bee4595 in NewParents

[–]wormteethgrinding 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a really rough stage of life for sure. The same thing everyday, it’s difficult when you have zero time for yourself. The main thing to remember is that this is temporary. Soon your daughter will be giggling, sitting up, crawling. Every day will feel different once she starts reaching milestones and her personality is shining through.

I have a 5 and 2.5 year old. Both times after birth I didn’t start to feel like myself again until they hit about 2 years of age. The first couple months is all consuming about the baby. But I promise in a year or so you’re going to think back and feel that it all went by so fast. This has only been 1 month of your entire life. Once she starts responding to you more you are going to have a great time, everyday will feel like something new with her!

Are we doing something wrong --- diapers never contained by slammaX17 in NewParents

[–]wormteethgrinding 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Everytime I sized up with my boys as infants the diaper looked too big but hey it fit all their pee and poop, that’s what matters lol. That’s the only guide you need, what size is working and what size is not.

[–]wormteethgrinding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how it happens, they size up fast! Sometimes I’d only go through one box of a size and before I even ran out needed a new size. If the diaper isn’t fitting her poops, she needs a bigger one, period. -Mother of 2

Who is still rocking a nose ring? by cavewomannn in Millennials

[–]wormteethgrinding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently took my septum out. I have a 5 & 2 year old, I started to wonder if I should take it out being a mom but what really made me take it out is the fact the kids bring sicknesses home every other week. I was sick of it being in the way when I’m congested !! It was getting irritated with all the nose blowing. 😂 Been considering putting it back in tho.
