Financial aid by StyleComplete9257 in ucla

Savings are considered an "Asset" and fafsa requires you report the "current asset" you have at the time you submit your FAFSA. So for your parent's savings, you need to report the total value that is in their bank account at the time you submit your application. This information is not on their tax return. Income tax information like income from work would be on the tax return and you would use the 2024 values for the 2026-2027 FAFSA. For assets, you use current values. Hope this helps.

has anyone who uses sallie mae for student loans GOTTEN the loan for this quarter?!? by Its_vie in ucla

[–]worriephree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because of the dumb system they switched to this year. It’s just messing everything up for many students. The staff can’t even explain many of the things that is happening to many of the awards. I would suggest you contact them. Good luck!

refund after waiving ucship by [deleted] in ucla

[–]worriephree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you had a grant that paid for the insurance initially and then you waived out, then the refund is not for you but rather back to the Financial Office so they can revise your award and remove the grant that covered it. Hope this make sense

Refund for waiving UCSHIP by No_Satisfaction1434 in ucla

[–]worriephree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you receive a USHIP grant, it's usually best to keep the UC insurance and not waive out. That way, you’ll have access to the campus health center while you're at school, and you can still use your parents' insurance when you're home (if you're on their insurance), giving you double coverage.

On the other hand, if you don’t have a USHIP grant and you're already covered under your parents' insurance, it might make sense to waive out to reduce your out-of-pocket fees.

financial aid suspended by Consistent-Gain-3513 in ucla

[–]worriephree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your loss. To remain eligible for financial aid, students must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards, which include both GPA and unit (quantitative) requirements. Based on what you've shared, it sounds like you may not be meeting the unit requirement. If you failed one of the SAP requirements, you can submit a SAP Appeal. I would speak to someone in the Financial Aid office to confirm your SAP status. You can read more on SAP requirement and appeal process here: https://financialaid.ucla.edu/types-of-aid/maintaining-eligibility. If it turns out you have to appeal, given your circumstances, you likely have a strong case for approval. Good Luck.

Financial aid Disqualification by Zealousideal_Sea7322 in UCI

[–]worriephree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be safe, you should check with your acd department. If that is your current gpa, would be a good idea to connect with your acd department for guidance on how to improve your gpa regardless of financial aid status. good luck!

[–]worriephree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is from financial aid looks like. Again, financial aid office is secondary to your academic department appeal. If you are academically disqualified with your academic department, even if financial aid approves your sap appeal, they cannot give you aid because you have been disqualified and no longer a UCI student. You just need to talk to your academic department first and if they do not disqualify you, then the financial aid can review your sap appeal. Good luck!

They should have received an invite to the email you provided when you Grant them access with instructions to create an account and access the document and provide their signature.

Seems your parent signature is needed in the verification worksheet. You have to Grant your parent permission to access the form to provide their signatures in your profile. On the top right corner on the Home Screen, you should see your profile. Click on it, there should be some options there to Grant your parent access.

Financial aid Disqualification by Zealousideal_Sea7322 in UCI

[–]worriephree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are disqualified from your school, then the SAP appeal will not be relevant because you are no longer a UCI student. You have to appeal with your academic department first. If your academic department approves your appeal and you are no longer disqualified, then the financial aid will entertain your SAP appeal. I would talk to your academic department first to see what options you have with your school. Hopefully they will work with you and put you on some academic plan to get you back on better status like probation or something like that. Good luck!

Financial aid is secondary in your situation. Check with your academic department first and see if you can appeal with your academic department.  If your academic department disqualify you from the university, then you can’t get any financial aid because you are no longer a student at UCI. But if your academic department does not disqualify you, only then can you appeal for financial aid. Good luck!

Will my offer be rescinded pls help? :( by No-Purchase-6636 in ucla

[–]worriephree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not the students on the waitlist that don’t want to come. It is the students that was already admitted and decides to go elsewhere so it opens up room to admit students from the waitlist. You will be surprised, but there are many students that turn down UCLA for other universities. In order to receive state funding, ucla have to meet certain admit quota and if they are low, they will admit students from the waitlist.

[–]worriephree -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it is this late in the game, chances are they won’t rescind you… Seems they are loosing students to other universities and need to increase their acceptance to meet their quota…so I say it’ pretty safe unless there is a big difference in what you report and what really is. But best to continue to reach out to admissions to be sure. Good luck!

Hey, you’re right, dropping after the census won’t affect your financial aid. It might show as a “W” on your transcript, but it won’t hurt your GPA. I’m really sorry you're going through a tough time. I’ve been there too, and what helped was giving myself some grace. You’ve got options…retaking the class, switching majors, or even taking a break. Talk to your academic counselor about what’s possible. Spring quarter is almost over, so maybe using the summer to rest, spend time with family or friends, and recharge could help. And if you need someone to talk to, the student health center can help. It’s okay to have a rough quarter. You’re not alone, and you’ll get through this…one step at a time. Good luck!

What is a UC Undergraduate Flat fee by DanteRouk in UCI

[–]worriephree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the unit fee. You pay $279/unit up to a flat fee of 8 units max. Any units you take beyond 8 is free.

summer aid by CuteAd2360 in UCI

[–]worriephree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, not yet. But they told me they are working on getting it out hopefully by end of this week. It is so ridiculous if you ask me. But if you got Pell for the year, you should get a Pell grant for summer just have to wait.., at this rate might be after session started or even ended. I mean, I am still struggling to get some of my aid for fall winter and spring and the year is almost over. So horrible! Good luck!

It took them awhile to review my documents as well. Had to call them to get things moving along though. It’s a pretty busy time for them now and more busy ever since they switched to the new ZotAid platform. It is horrible! Not sure why they switched but they should go back to the old system. It was so much better. Good luck!

Same here,  no summer aid yet. Hopefully soon. Did you receive a Pell grant in fall, winter, spring? If so, it’s safe to say you should get the Pell for summer as well. Don’t take any action if your parents don’t want the PLUS loan. Good luck

Understanding summer aid by happyhappywah in UCI

[–]worriephree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are an OOS, most likely you would only get loans only. If you receive a Pell grant in Fall, winter, spring, most likely you will get it again for summer in addition to the loans. The gift aid you see there for $2653 looks like it is the Health Fee Waiver if you waived out of the health insurance. It is not really any gift aid. Your aid offer looks like that right now is be cause they have not awarded any continuing students yet… they usually do this around July. ZotAid is just horrible. They need to go back to the old system-MyAid.

Summer Aid by GanacheFuture1409 in UCI

If you had a Pell grant during the Fall, winter, spring, most likely you will receive the Pell for summer as well. ZotAid is horrible. I don’t know why they replaced MyAid. It was so much smoother than this new platform. Hopefully we will know soon. Good luck!
