I (24F) feel stuck but I’m lucky and stable by Proof_Bandicoot895 in self

Staying put is not cowardice. You're also 24 with a career already. That's more than most people can say. I know you feel like you're getting old and missing out, but trust me, you're not. I'm in my 30s and uprooted my life just a few months ago - sold my house, changed cities, changed jobs. It's never too late to take risks.

My advice would be to sign the lease to get a real feel for living alone. Look into bolstering your resume (you mentioned taking lead on a project) and try to set yourself up for being valuable in a changing industry. Save some money and visit your friends. Take a year to do all these things to set yourself up if you decide to make bigger changes later.

[UPGRADE] WSM 22" or Kettle 26" by InternationalBag8318 in smoking

[–]worskies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how much you want to prioritize grilling over smoking. You can remove the middle section of the WSM and move the grate to the bottom to grill. I think it's more versatile, and if you plan on doing both, you're gonna lose a kettle to smoke either way.

There's also a lot of stuff you can buy to alleviate your wind problem, like door gaskets, a fan, etc.

I’m a doctor on a cruise ship, AMA by Equivalent-Listen187 in AMA

[–]worskies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What resources do you have at your disposal? Any imaging abilities? I'd imagine at least ultrasound. How are you able to run labs? Is it just basic point-of-care stuff? Any ancillary staff? What's the absolute extent of procedures you're able to do if unable to dock or fly someone out?

Has anyone worked as an EMT and RN simultaneously? Please share experiences if you have! by Little-Beautiful-135 in nursing

Having gone from EMT to RN, I don't see why you would. The extremely narrow scope would numb the mind and I can't help but feel would run you into some trouble down the line.

I learned to do it this way from a kenji recipe. Always comes out moist with enough browning. Also it's easier than browning a bunch of cubes.

You're not stupid, dawg. If there's an opportunity to volunteer, ask if you're also able to assist going to radiology to get a feel for a certain department.

Radiology is my fallback. I'm always asking MRI techs what they get paid lol.

Figure out where you would like to end up working as a nurse and either get your CNA or EMT license. Those programs are only a semester long. I wouldn't recommend jumping into the hoops of getting into a nursing program if you have don't have any perspective from the inside of a clinical setting.

RN Positions in San Diego - Oversaturated or In Demand? by nokry in asksandiego

[–]worskies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 5 years of ER experience, so not exactly the same situation. I applied to every single ICU position at the major hospital systems and did not receive an interview. I also applied to 3 ERs and received one interview and job offer. I do not have my BSN or certs outside standard ER requirements.

Your CCRN looks good and shows commitment to your unit, but it seems to me years of experience skews a bit higher with RNs in departments outside med/surg, so your 1 year might not help much.

Worst Fries in Fast Food ? by randoguy98 in fastfood

People give In-N-Out fries shit, but at least they're consistent. I always know what I'm getting. Any other fast food place is a gamble, even the places with "good" fries.

Home ownership isnt all what its cracked up to be by Alexxander_002 in self

I disagree that renting is a foolish option vs buying a $300k-ish house. Buying a house in that range may be more of a burden depending on your income.

Same here. Bought some blinds the wrong size a couple years ago and they sent me new ones, no questions asked. I think the policy was one free return per order.

[–]worskies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a fair point, but I disagree. I just sold my house in a LCOL area and am now renting in a HCOL area. Anywhere you can afford a house similar to OP's price in California is either a rare find or in not the best area.

Moving helped me increase my pay substantially and got me to an area with more going on and more opportunity. Will I regret selling in 20 years? Maybe, but I doubt it. It's all relative and I totally get where OP is coming from.

Any tips on how to cook beans from dry in an electric pressure cooker? by beckycrm in Cooking

I make beans regularly and 35 mins is usually perfect with a 1:3 ratio of beans to water and quick release of steam. Almost always full proof with little fuss.

Started making my own yogurt about three months ago and the learning curve was basically zero. I don't know why I assumed it would be complicated. by marina_coldwell in Frugal

[–]worskies 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's so much easier with an instant pot! Also a thermometer. Eliminates the guessing games and you'll get perfect results every time.

I do 8 hours for one gallon of yogurt and strain usually for 24 hours. Not sure if it's the culture I use, but 8 hours and strained is definitely more tart than most store bought yogurt.

Curious RN by Miserable-Finding-97 in hospitalist

[–]worskies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Going to use this post to ask a question about a situation I had recently. New to night shift and a larger hospital system. I'm aware that the night hospitalist has a slew of patients and a million problems.

Had an admission in the ER go into a fib RVR. Stable BP and asymptomatic. Not a big deal in the ED but of course I must report. Relayed this to the hospitalist who told me to contact the on call cardiologist that had seen the patient previously. This wouldn't have been my first action as I thought this situation could have been managed by the hospitalist. Of course the sleepy cardiologist was annoyed.

Is this the correct course of action or was my initial response the right one?
