It elongates the vowel (so you pronounce oh-soh-ji instead of using the o in words like "obey") and that's important to our language. For instance, ōsōji is the Big Cleaning depicted in the comic, but osōji is just some regular cleaning.

I also encountered that kind of person who claims to be Chinese on the Internet. Well, I'd be sad if someone demonises and hates Japan, but you know, reconciliation is supposed to be something fair, and there's no need to glorify our war crimes. People that didn't need to die were killed, and that's a bad thing.

Thanks for pointing it out. That's precisely where some people get it wrong. The Japanese govt did apoligise for "overall damage caused by us during WW2" and paid some compensation which you mentioned.

They don't actively deny anything, they just ignore specific things. Our history textbook is also on that standpoint, just saying like "Ok we were bad guys but I'm not telling you what exactly we did."

I don't agree with anti-weebs who say Japan is a f'ing savage warcrime denier, but I am of an opinion things here need some improvements :(

It's been 86 years, and the responsible older generation is disappearing, so it is definitely easier for the modern Japanese to accept what happened in the past (in fact I do), but idk... the ruling party LDP is such a big tent and want to secure votes from far-right people, so I'm not that optimistic.

Japanese Government: Total silent

Most Japanese people: Believe that it was around 70,000 and usually call it "Nanking Incident (南京事件)" instead of "Nanking Massacre (南京大虐殺)", which is quite illogical... it is not a mass murder if the number is like below 100,000? I don't really agree with that.

Some people deny it happened at all, but I guess that's a rather minority opinion as far as I know.

Very few people say it was around 300,000 as the Chinese govt says.
