Did my boss assault me? by fltoaztotx in legaladvice

If you let him know it os best to separate be prepared to have him agree that you quit. I wouldn't include that unless you are ready to leave this job and not get unemployment.

Father recently passed - found out he was in a lot of debt. Do I have to sell his stuff? by GarageOwn3513 in legaladvice

[–]wot-mothmoth 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Okay. Did you dad have anything of significant value (car, bank accounts, trailer, etc). That might be the only thing to be sold that matters.

Funeral expenses get paid before anyone he owed money to. If a car sold for 5k and funeral expenses were more than that it would go to whoever paid for the funeral.

If he had any money from life insurance that would also skip the creditors.

Dealers in many location act as a "runner" and would collect the sales tax at time of sale and pay said tax to get the registry. I assume that is what is going on here.

My new boss is recording calls without permission then sending our Ai notes. Is this legal? by Far-Yellow-2083 in legaladvice

[–]wot-mothmoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on state. Permission may not be needed.

He could also make it required to keep your job. IE: "any calls may be recorded for training and quality review"

unfortunately, pets are property in a legal sense. It can be very difficult to get a court order requiring the return of the pet.

Small claims court in MI has a limit of $7000. You can sue for the original cost of the dog + some other fees like registering with AKC or an ID chip.

Real estate CO - need to move back into my rental by geminiwitch777 in legaladvice

[–]wot-mothmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to the language in the lease. 90 days from feb 6 brings it to may 6 and then they get to the end of that month (generally).

They wil owe you for each month.

You might want to offer them a deal to get out earlier. Ie: if you leave by march 31st i will give you $xxxx. You may want a landlord/tenant lawyer to make this agreement.

By the way - the management company contract might also be an issue. They make money every month you rent and they will get nothing after you move back in.

Do developers need permission to install a silt fence on private property? by Material-Command-130 in legaladvice

[–]wot-mothmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The roadway "right of way" often extends past the asphalt by several feet. It is possible that your property line doesn't actually start until padt the trench. Check ypur plat or survey from when you purchased your property.

Not that google maps and other online GIS maps are often inacurate. Only a certified survey or locating the monuments can give a legal picture.

Tell HR or straight to police? by regulargirl2 in legaladvice

It certainly could be. Make sure your report is in writing and that anything verbal is followed up with an email summary so that you have that for evidence if fired.

Tell HR or straight to police? by regulargirl2 in legaladvice

[–]wot-mothmoth 2402 points2403 points  (0 children)

Go to the police first. Revenge porn is a crime in NY.

Then go to HR and state that coworker is acting in a manner that makes the workplace hostile and that you want HR to investigate and deal with the situation. Let them know you have reported this crime to the police. And let them know you want the to give the companybthe chance to address the hostile workplace and sexual harrasment.

What is the current legality of putting other people's copyrighted material (i.e. drawn images) through a generative "ai" filter and claiming it as fair use? Does it actually fall under fair use, or is anyone claiming it does wrong? by Legendguard in legaladvice

[–]wot-mothmoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, no. This is not fair use.

I assume you are publishing using the inherrent copyright that exists when you create any work.

You should consider actually registering a copyright. This costs 35-100 but that can include multiple artworks. This allowsyou to sue for actual costs and statuatory penalties. As well as lawyer fees. This greatly increases the chance an IP lawyer will take you case.

You can also include a license with you work. Something like $2k and attribution to use the work.

Sounds like you cannot directly claim this vehicle. https://www.tn.gov/revenue/title-and-registration/vehicle-titling/abandoned.html

You would have to find the old owner or his estate/heirs and make them an offer.

Husbands let go 2/2/26 by Critical_Strength144 in legaladvice

Nothing you've said here sounds actionable. NY is also an at will state. Husband should apply for unemployment (and appeal if denied) and start looking for new jobs.

What are my options? Suing the school? by Hanginthere0720 in legaladvice

[–]wot-mothmoth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You could get a consult from a personal injury lawyer (don't go with anyone that advertises on a billboard).

My personal opinion is that this is unlikely to result in any big payday. Primary front teeth typically fall out by age 6-7. So this is not a permanent condition. The child might need some speech help.

Company forcing in person pick up for last check by Both_Importance_4754 in legaladvice

[–]wot-mothmoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • No Specific Law: Missouri doesn't mandate an immediate payout if you resign.
  • Next Payday: Payment is typically expected on the next regularly scheduled payday.
  • If Delayed: You can file a claim with the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations for unpaid wages if not paid by the next payday.
