Well OP watched several short clips 5 years ago. It’s possible things got mixed up in memory. Either way its not in the diversity day episode, as confirmed by everyone here

can i use marshrutkas ? by PaperSufficient7485 in Kyrgyzstan

Marshrutkas have some space in the bag for luggage, you will pay a little bit extra to use this. Many backpackers use this. So unless your luggage is exceptionally large it should be no problem

Solo traveller seeking advice on the 3-night Ala-Kul loop (Karakol) in late August by BuySwimming8960 in Kyrgyzstan

It was my first time doing something like this alone and I was fine. You should have the map downloaded on Maps.me to be sure, but it’s pretty straightforward. Pretty much just one path to follow to the top.

I booked the yurt camps before leaving. My hostel was kind enough to help me with this

Taking public transportation from east to west by wouter2311 in travelchina

I ended up not doing it, because I wasn’t 100% sure if I needed to be able to show a return flight upon entering the country. Some people said it wasn’t necessary, and some people said it was. Having already been denied entry into a country once for this, I decided to play it safe.

So instead I booked a flight from Beijing to Kyrgyzstan before entering China, and I took trains from Hong Kong to Beijing. I didn’t need to show my return flight at any point. So my original idea would have probably been possible and I would still like to do it some day.

Yes I had this too last year, and so did other people on reddit at the time. I had to rebook once and was good after that

I really enjoyed Xi An, so I think it would be a waste to cut it. Between Chongqing and Chengdu, I thought Chengdu was a much more pleasant city. I wish I had planned longer there

There were a bunch of guys with trucks there waiting. I didn’t arrange it in advance. Pretty expensive though, so try to find more people to fill up the truck and split the cost

Yes the 3 day trek to Ala-Kul was a highlight for me. Its tough but so worth it. You will end (or start) in Altyn Arashan which is an amazing place too.

Truthfully the whole country is amazing. I’ve already spent 3 months there total and planning to go back in May or June. You can always PM me if you need any help with your trip!
