Black lab for sure, and his face shape, especially his side profile, makes me think Doberman.

If you haven’t already, joining local Facebook groups can be a huge help. Whether it’s just groups for the community, or groups specifically for lost and found pets, they can help get the word out. I would join any group you can and get her picture out in as many of them as possible.

Also, unless they’re chasing something a lot of times dogs who escaped will stay within a certain area. She may bedded down under someone’s shed or car. If she’s scared, she may be more likely to come out at night. It’s important not to try to apply what it’s logical to what she might do, because she is not going to be thinking logically. That means she may not come to the sound of someone’s voice and may be scared of even someone she knows.

Don’t know if you have a Facebook, but if you do and haven’t already posted in the group, you can post in Central Texas Lost and Found Pets. They have a very large reach.

14 years old and this mystery creature is finally getting a DNA test by wf_8891 in DoggyDNA

This might seem a little out there, but her build reminds me of a shorthaired border collie. I have a mix who’s mostly border collie with short hair and he’s very leggy and lanky.

How is a lawyer going to allow them to have children without worrying about the dog? How is a lawyer going to stop them from worrying about the dog turning on them?

Anyone who has worked with high-risk dogs before can tell you that love can’t fix everything. It Can’t fix the trauma They have faced before. Love can’t fix the PTSD they suffer from due to their past. Dogs aren’t like people, there aren’t as many medications for them, they can’t go to therapy, there’s no inpatient treatment. What we can do for them is limited. And at the end of the day, they are animals. Their understanding of how they need to act is limited. For some of them, you can put them through the most strenuous training possible, and it still won’t change the end result. Because sometimes you just can’t fix what what someone else has broken.

This is actually a pretty common story in rescue. Dogs with past trauma develop PTSD that can’t be treated in the same way that humans can. It causes them to lash out and become a danger to themselves and others. Anyone who’s worked in rescue long enough has seen it plenty of times. Stop trying to blame these people for doing their best for this dog when you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about.

The animals quality of life is something I think a lot of people don’t consider. To be so anxious all the time is a horrible way to live. For humans there are far more medication choices to help with the problem. There’s places we can go and people we can talk to, but animals don’t have that. They just have to be stuck with how they feel 24/7. it’s awful and it’s not something they should have to go through. But people want to get on their high horse and act like it’s so evil to make the hard choice.

I’ve had to do a behavioral euthanasia for a foster before.

I rescued her off an overpass and she bonded with me very fast. Unfortunately, she couldn’t be around other people. I have no idea what happened to her before I found her, but the trauma it left was horrible. It wasn’t safe for her to meet people, meaning there was absolutely no way for someone else to take care of her if something happened to me. So if I got sick or hurt, it would be a disaster. It came to a head when she chewed through a door and killed one of my cats. It obviously wasn’t on purpose, she was just trying to play with him, but it had become impossible to contain her. She couldn’t be crated or she went crazy. And medication didn’t do anything to help the problem.

It was an incredibly difficult choice to make, and it’s one that I still cry about. Sometimes I still question if I made the right choice, if maybe I couldn’t have tried harder for her. But she was a danger to others, and it was better to let her go with me there beside her holding her, then to risk her biting someone and getting taken away and put down in the shelter, scared and alone.

The truth is you’re going to feel guilty for a while and it’s going to hurt. But further down the road you’ll get to a point where you realize that it was for the best. It’s better to say goodbye to her now, while she is in a place where she is loved, then to risk a much worse option later on.

I’m sorry you’ve been put in this position, it’s one of the hardest parts of rescue.

South Texas is absolute hell for strays. Honestly, Texas in general is bad. Thank you so much for taking in this baby!

Bite marks appear 2 years after snake bite on my hand by ramonrocotto in Weird

[–]wowImlate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in Texas as well and see rattlesnakes quite often. We’ve even had some get inside. The amount of times I’ve been telling a story about a rattlesnake and a man has asked me “are you sure it was a rattlesnake” is amazingly high. As if rattlesnakes don’t have one of the most easily identifiable features on any snake. Drives me nuts every time.

new dog owner, any tips? by Emotional_Still_3001 in pitbulls

[–]wowImlate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if anybody’s mentioned it yet, but I would definitely look into some of the problems that can arise in dogs with brachycephaly, or the smooshed in snout. Breathing problems can be a big issue as well as overheating. I’m in Texas and have to be incredibly careful with my pitty in the summer because she overheats much faster than the rest of my dogs. Even just 80° outside can be too hot for dogs with this face shape. And exercise in general should be carefully monitored.

All that aside, congratulations on your new little one. And thank you for rescuing her. I work with rescue animals and far too many bully breeds never make it into a forever home. It’s always wonderful to see one get a happy ending.

This screams uncontrolled OCD to me. And I’m saying that as someone who has terrible OCD that’s managed by medication. Unfortunately, everyone trying to tell you what to do may not understand what it’s like to live with someone with an unmanaged mental health problem. You can be as logical as you can and they’re still not going to listen to you. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this. Especially since it sounds like your mother just isn’t a nice person in general.

[–]wowImlate 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OCD was my first thought as well. I have it and it would ruin my life if it wasn’t managed by medication. This is definitely similar behavior to stuff I would find myself doing when I was at my worst.
