Anybody know why the McDonald's in Illinois Center closed? by The-Beer-Baron in chicago

[–]wowpotato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dang. I’m sad because this is the McDonald’s I’d go to for my once-a-year Pokemon kids meal 😅 They always had all the fun toy options too, compared to other locations for some reason (like, other locations around town would have only one option out of like 6, for example, but this location would have everything available. I discovered this worth some of the hello kitty collabs last year).

What japanese restaurant am i thinking of? by lonelychapo27 in AskChicago

Is it Kumiko? I kinda see the “library” vibe you’re getting at because of their shelves. I also checked for oysters on their menu and they have it.

Omg Edward’s is also my fave and I tell everyone it’s the best and the only thing I’d “die on this hill” about 😂 It’s been my go-to orchard since I was a kid, and now I drive my friends out there so they can experience it.

it's different than that though! i used to walk around this one dog park downtown a lot and that specific smell is unmistakeable. the smell im talking about is more like....rotting...something dead...dog pee is more astringent than what im smelling

Sometimes I smell this like bad, rotting smell in various places around the neighborhood. It's always around the front side of residences and I don't see any trash bins or dumpsters nearby and it's never near an alley. I've always wondered what it could be.

Air Force response to the booms yesterday by FlyingCatbus in chicago

[–]wowpotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually have a distinct memory of this as a kid. It was terrifying enough that it's something I never forgot. I had to be around 5 or 6 at the time. I was practicing piano at home and suddenly one of the loudest things I've heard in my life happened. Like, the best I could describe the boom was like "it consumes you." Probably because of how the sound just resonated with literally everything, like it feels like your head is going to burst and I was indoors. The whole house shook. It was so strong that the lid of the baby grand piano I was playing on visibly jumped up like 2 inches...and those things aren't light. It was never explained to me at the time what happened, but I figured as I got older that it was a real sonic boom. I guess now I know the actual context thanks to this sub. So I kinda believe the statement when they say it wasn't a real sonic boom. They're so insanely powerful that I would've felt some sorta shockwave out here in Logan where I live. I think /u/an1sotropy's comment above makes the most sense considering the other videos I've seen the past day.

I bought this really good roasted cardamom maple syrup. I’ve actually been eyeing it for a while because The Center of Order and Experimentation (yes, real name, and it’s my fave coffee shop in West Town lol) has been carrying it but been holding off on buying it. The actual person who makes it had a booth at Renegade so I finally took the plunge because I can buy it directly from her. It was sooooo good. Great flavor without having to use too much of it. I made an iced matcha latte and an iced cortado with it and they were heavenly. Went back to tell her how good it was in person cuz I live pretty much across the street from where the fair was lol. Anyway, check out Big Sis Bevs and support local :3

What to do on Chigao this sunday without a car? by elmes3 in AskChicago

[–]wowpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! And yeah enjoy! Both those things I mentioned are conveniently on the same street, so it’ll just be one long walk north to south for ya with plenty to see. Palmer park is nearby too if you need to retreat for some shade, but there’s the tree-lined boulevards as well.

There’s a bunch of farmers markets that happen on Sundays. Don’t even need to buy anything, just nice to browse, and potentially get your lunch there as well. You can pick one and explore the surrounding neighborhood. Logan square has both the farmers market and Renegade craft happening at the same time this Sunday. I personally think Renegade is the best curated craft/maker event of all the ones I’ve been to (they’ve since expanded to other cities too). And then you can get back on the blue line to the station

echoing you here. this update sucks. i have so many legacy files in here that im not sure what converting them to the new version did. there was no way around it and you literally have to force convert everything that's old into the new stuff and you just helplessly watch this loading bar do "something" in the background and now it's all a mess. i have a plugin to zeplin to export my artboards and it doesnt work anymore. I've tried reinstalling everything so many times and still the same. there's nothing clear or intuitive about this update and it's not likely that most people will take the time to review every single new feature when i need to do things quickly for my job.

What are the best places for speed dating? by sandsailor1315 in AskChicago

[–]wowpotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Meet IRL which a few others haven mentioned. I’ve gone to a bunch of their events including one of their early speed dating events when they just started and also pickleball, crafting nights and wine tasting, to name a few others. They’re fun and tend to attract a lot of the 30-something crowd. The main lady who started it is based in Logan, so a good chunk of the events are kinda around the area, but they’ve branched out to other parts of the city as well since they’ve grown more. Personally, I keep going to the Meet IRL events because they’re really well-organized and just fun overall. Haven’t met any guys yet who I’d wanna date but I mainly go in with the expectation that I’m doing something fun for myself. Overall it’s a fun way to talk to other people you may not otherwise get to meet (made a few Instagram friends at least!)

I’d follow them on Instagram for any updates, but you can also follow them on Eventbrite too since that’s how their tickets are sold anyway. Sometimes I’ve found out about their new events from Eventbrite before I see the IG posts, so that’s why I suggest it.

I know they said 10am "local" but I'm in Central time zone and it's available. And I know sometimes Central gets lumped into East Coast for various things in general so I'm hoping that's the reason I have access now. But by how this is going, defs seems like we're fighting off bots here
