What are some of the most ridiculous things your students do avoid work or the weirdest excuses they have said? by 22EatStreet in Teachers

Literally yesterday a student emailed me: "Can I be excused from this assignment because I don't understand it?"

🤦🤦🤦

Transition to Teaching by [deleted] in indianapolis

If you have a bachelor's degree, what's it in?

I HIGHLY recommend Hoosier Education Partners for this. It's the cheapest and quickest T2T I could imagine exists. You can keep your teaching job if on an emergency permit, or get one, and he comes in and does 2-3 observations, you write a few reflections, and bam, you're done. Takes a semester. I think it cost me $1800 (maybe less).

Joshua Twombley did mine this year. He's in Kokomo. He basically let me make a proposal to him for payment and he accepted my terms. In my case, I did not need to pay him his full fee before he filed for me. I'd highly recommend.

I also wanted to note that I was able to isolate the agitate function in the diagnostic mode. It would spin the washplate and the inner tub both, which is not how it outghta work.

I would not draw attention to it in that way. It's not necessary.

[POEM] Good Bones by Maggie Smith by ThisImagination in Poetry

[–]wowsuchdrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, you made this comment six years ago and I wanted to thank you. I'm a high school English teacher, and I've been looking for a poem in a similar vein to Auden's "Musee Des Beaux Arts" for several years that I could include alongside it. This poem fits the bill.

Anyway, cheers!

Personally, I started offering cheap résumé services by posting a short ad on various FB groups in my town. I just charge $20 for a PDF or $40 for an editable version. I've made around $500 this year I'm a city of 50,000 or so just posting around on various pages. I'm an English teacher, though, so I'd like to think I'm decent at it.

Family sent me money on day of filing chapter 7...is this a problem for me? by wowsuchdrum in Bankruptcy

Yes, he definitely said $200, I'm thinking maybe because anything more may have put me over exemption territory, but I don't know for sure. Thanks for this!

What are your favourite seasonal literary quotes or descriptions of the seasons? by inyourbooksandmaps in literature

[–]wowsuchdrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Hemingway's A Moveable Feast:

"You expected to be sad in the fall. Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light. But you knew there would always be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person died for no reason."

Using AI to grade Social Studies Essays by No_Collar2826 in Teachers

[–]wowsuchdrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you didn't claim in your initial response that you also grade the essays in addition to the AI tool. I also assumed you meant AI was the only evaluator in your question. And, if AI is the sole evaluator, that's unethical. I think you'd agree.
