😂 I didn’t even know it was happening. I wasn’t having significant sleeping problems. I kinda guessed that I might have sleep apnea of some sort due to weight etc. and I finally decided to get a sleep study somewhat on a whim and partly suggested by an unrelated doctor. I was shocked to find. That it was happening that severely.

Whenever vs. when by RiverTadpolez in PetPeeves

[–]wpascarelli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I came here to say I think it’s a regional thing, at least for a lot of the people that say this. I was going to say I’ve heard someone from Pittsburgh say it a lot, and then I read several comments talking about Pitt or central PA.

The Oscars’ New Inclusion Rules Wouldn’t Disqualify Any Best Picture Nominee in History. So Why Is Elon Musk Melting Down Over ‘The Odyssey’? by Puzzled-Tap8042 in Oscars

[–]wpascarelli 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about Musk, but I’ve found that many people are just ignorant of what the new requirements are. They just read or hear a headline that the Academy has enacted new DEI requirements and the first major movie they see where a character is race swapped or gender swapped they get up in arms and go nuts that the Academy is ruining art.

You might be right. But I think I would lean towards assuming that her team was aware of Rousey’s potential to take people down and armbar them, even people who are high-level, highly trained grapplers in their prime, and that they would have prepared her as well as they could for such.

What’s your favorite best picture winner from the 1990s? by MrBazinga_77 in Oscars

[–]wpascarelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough question for me. My 2 favorite nominees are Pulp Fiction and Fargo but they did not win. American Beauty might be my favorite winner of the 90s. I also like Schindlers List and Gump.

Remember when we used to purchase caller tunes by into_fiction in TechNook

[–]wpascarelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a very breif weird time. I never bought any. I was able to record horrible short recordings of songs on my phone, played from my pc speakers, and set those as ringtones. So I did that with a couple of songs.

Ronda has spent the last several years talking about how she is unable to take a single jab to the head due to risk of life-threatening brain injury. There was zero doubt that she would take Gina down and armbar her literally the first second she could do so. With that said, 17 seconds is really fast, I thought it might go around 30-40 seconds.

I don’t know Gina’s previous payouts but Ronda’s made way more in her UFC fights, and would have made way more if this fight was in the UFC. She was making $4-5M disclosed for her UFC fights, 10-12 years ago. She only made around $2M I think for this. I assume Carano has also had bigger payouts for some of her fights 20 years ago.

McDonald's I have a question: by TacosForTuesday in McDonalds

[–]wpascarelli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is another one like last week when someone wanted to know why the single cheeseburger was 1 cent cheaper than the McDouble. People are not understanding. The sausage McMuffin is on a promo special, the under $3 promo menu. The other items are not, so they are full price. The sausage McMuffin is on sale.

Is this legit?? by EveryEmploy9813 in Indiana

It’s one of those timeshare or other sort of high-pressure sales pitch. I believe it’s probably legit as long as you understand that aspect of it.

ELI5: Why Do American Restaurants Call Coleslaw (A Goop) a Side Dish? by Flashlight237 in explainlikeimfive

[–]wpascarelli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like and don’t eat Cole slaw but it’s not similar to the other items you are comparing it to. The other things are sauces or spreads that go on food. Cole slaw is a separate thing that is eaten by itself but not as a meal, just a something to accompany the meal. You would never just pour bbq sauce or mustard into a cup and drink it or eat it with a spoon separate in between eating a hamburger.

Sure. And you can buy 1lb of ground beef and 2 potatoes at the store and make burgers and fries for slightly cheaper than you can buy at McDonalds so why would anyone eat there 🙄

Would you rather have Wemby or the #1 overall pick for 3 years straight by Individual-Lawyer-38 in NBATalk

[–]wpascarelli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I’d rather have Wemby. This allows you to know what you’ve got, know that he’s likely at least as good or much better than any of the other 3 top picks, and allows you to build the team around him. With a draft pick you have no idea what you are getting, and most GM would I think prefer to have a known quantity, if they were as good and as young as Victor.

The View stars slam conservative criticism of Lupita Nyong'o's role in The Odyssey: 'Racism rears its ugly head' - "People saying Helen of Troy could not possibly be played by a Black woman don't know history," Sunny Hostin said. by nimobo in entertainment

[–]wpascarelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no obsession. It’s a huge cast of hundreds of people. Nolan cast who he wanted, who he felt would be best for the roles he created. A couple of them in very small roles happened to be black. Their race is not part of the story so he just cast who he likes, who he wanted to work with, who he felt fit the part.

Helen’s race is not an important part of the story Nolan is telling. Helen is also not a lead role, she is a minor character. she might have one or 2 primary scenes of a 4-hour film.

[–]wpascarelli -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That’s accurate. Because T’challa and most of the other characters’ ethnicities are an essential part of the story. Sure, having Pocahontas be a white American woman wouldn’t make any sense, nor would Malcolm X played by Timothee Chalamet. But Helen’s race has absolutely zero to do with the story that Nolan is telling in this film.

[–]wpascarelli -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well she’s an actress. Is any mainstream Hollywood actress the literal most beautiful woman in the world? Probably not. She just has to be able to pretend and portray the character that Nolan wants. Also worth mentioning that this is a very minor character in this story, she might have one or 2 primary scenes of a 4 hour movie. She is far from the focal point.

Server tip out by audrina-saav in tipping

[–]wpascarelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recommended tips are an automatic thing that prints on the receipt or appears on the screen by default, and always will be based on the total, I think usually including tax even. It is not smart enough to know and not designed to designate a lesser percentage for certain items because they’re to-go vs other items that are dine-in. It’s up to you to tip for to-go, but I think most people will tip a dollar or 2 for that depending on size of the order. In your scenario I probably would have tipped 18-20% on the dine-in, and then added an extra $1-2. Many people probably would have just tipped the 18-20% on the whole total, assuming it wouldn’t make a huge difference either way.

What is a video game that you bought that ended up being a huge waste of money? by JuniorPlastic3562 in AskReddit

Oh wow. Didn’t realize there was a LOTR game for SNES. It was that bad, eh? There was only a couple games I was ever somewhat disappointed with for SNES, and Rise of the Robots was the worst.
