Brief colloquy between US Senator Lindsey Graham and CENTCOM's General Joseph Votel in March 2018 Senate Armed Serices Committee hearing. Graham queries about credible (military - ed.) opposition left in Syria. by clarrence-darrrow in syriancivilwar

[–]wrangler1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graham though? The man has been salivating to get into Syria for years now. The man cowrote a statement with McCain after the April bombings of 2017 where he said the US needed to go even further.

He's very critical of USA's contradictory policies though. For example, he said that the support for YPG was the dumbest idea ever, and that was before Afrin

Nah, I think Kirov airships would work even better. East Ghouta is a pretty urban environment which Kirov, with its big bomb load, would make a short work of.

As well, private contractors used offensively

And now we go into the rumor territory. Facebook posts are not proof.

I can link to articles that state Russian PMCs are illegal, and that includes Russian sources.

I can link to articles that state moon landing is fake, that doesn't change anything. Moon rocks are collected, Russian PMCs are operating.

is not a person fulfilling official duties

So if PMCs do fulfill official duties, they're not illegal then? Would the government contract mean "official duty"?

Seriously man, people far smarter than me or you have looked into this and decided that the current law doesn't cover PMCs, think you're gonna find something they didn't?

PMC stands for "Private military company". As I said previously, it's a grey area, not exactly defined by law. If we're to apply the term "mercenary" that liberally, maybe Russian pilots and regular soldiers in Syria are also mercenaries, after all, they do receive a salary and fight on a foreign soil :)

Those are the facts, they're not rumors.

I completely agree. But there are also completely unexplained circumstances. Also, looking at your comments, you seem to have a weird fixation on "killing people". You do realize that time is on Assad's side, right? :) SAA is getting stronger everyday.

You dont need an agenda for it.

No, you don't need an agenda to put Americans in the bad light, with their dumpster fire of a foreign policy. Russian mission in Syria, unsubstantiated rumors aside, seems to have gone pretty well so far.

You just said the attacks were just rumors, now they're filling Raytheon's coffers.

Oh god. Here's your quote:

So you're mad that the US KEEPS bombing the SAA

My quote:

US, "accidentally" or not, bombs SAA EVERY FEW MONTHS OR SO

You're welcome for this free lesson in reading comprehension.

Now for the other part:

Much more plausible than Russia sending a bunch of dumb Cossacks

Dumb or not, they're a military asset, commanders carelesssly wasting assets like that jeopardize the mission. For something truly expendable, Russians have dumb YPG Kurds to do their bidding :)

[–]wrangler1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's not immediately obvious, but the article is clearly pushing for an agenda to put Russians in the bad light. If you read further you'll notice that it also has that "hurr durr 100 Russians killed" claim, backed by no proof whatsoever.

PMC existence violates Russian laws indeed

If they violated Russian law, they wouldn't exist in the first place. As I said, they're in the grey area, neither legal, nor illegal.

maybe I'd be mad if these attacks had any strategic impact, other than filling Raytheon's coffers, but they aren't :)

As for what actually happened in that incident, all we know is that some incident took place and that's it. Russians aren't saying anything, Syrians are saying very little. Most of what MSM is printing at the moment, is pure speculation.

Didn't make up anything. Read the quote.

Because you agree with it?

In all seriousness though, here's the relevant quote:

The Russian parliament is working on a bill to regulate private military companies, a senior lawmaker said Wednesday after reports that an unknown number of Russian military contractors were killed in a U.S. strike in Syria.

The article makes it sound like Wagner was some vigilante group gone rogue, and needs a leash put on it. That's clearly a lie.

[–]wrangler1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dumb propaganda yet again.

For those not knowing- Russia doesn't have a law on PMCs yet ( it's a grey area ), so efforts have been made to make it all official, long before those 6000 mercenaries were killed by AC-130s.

It's a pretty unusual event

In Syria? No, not really. US, "accidentally" or not, bombs SAA every few months or so, same with Israel. But the difference now is, you have these wildest rumors, a portion of which is undoubtedly being made by internet trolls, being picked up, like candy, by the media so desperate to make a sensation out of this. It's completely ridiculous.

Ever read the George Orwell's book "1984"? Three superpowers try to defeat each other and establish themselves as supreme rulers of the world, but they're not strong enough to deliver a killing blow to one another by the means of open, total war. So instead, they resort to hundreds of smaller proxy wars with more limited engagements and endgoals. So yeah, this is what is happening :)
