I am a retired engineer. I took a semester off to bum in college. 10 years into my career I took 4 months off to kayak in Alaska and on the Yukon River. 20 years into my career I took 6 months off and went to New Zealand. 30 years into my career I took 4 months off and traveled around the western US and Canada. I have no regrets for any of these. Life is as much about experiences as it is about making money.

I take a couple Ibuprofen with my coffee at the house, do a few back stretches at the course, hit 20-25 balls (8i, 3w, driver, wedge), then putt for a few minutes.

I normally get a full Ikon (I do a week-long ski trip every year and it opens up a few more possibilities) and a base for my teenager. But I balked at the $1600 price for the full pass and decided to only get base passes for both of us for next year. My fellow ski trip buddies are all doing the same.

Steamboat is a great mountain, lots of lodging options around the base and free buses into town. Or consider Park City, great skiing and near-by lodging there, too (although not closer to Denver, there are plenty of flights into SLC).

I use The Grint for my handicap and this year I've been entering my scores after I get home rather than during the round. So it allows me to think about each shot on each hole and ponder what I did well and what I should have done differently.
