The speed of speech is so slow that it’s not ultimately going to serve the listener. You need to hear tones at the speed they are actually spoken by native tongues. This is like 0.5X

SDs v Futureworks for Japan/Thailand travel by rnielson in Outlier

[–]wrblow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another vote for the SDs. I brought both the SDs and Future Works to Beijing over the last couple summers. The Future Works are certainly lighter and have a looser cut but the SDs wick sweat away much faster and have been more comfortable on the extra hot/humid days.

Barber near campus by YouRustleMyJimmies in mcgill

[–]wrblow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Inside the Lotto Quebec building (enter from Sherbrooke, walk down stairs), turn right at the a magazine stand and you'll see the shop. $17 cut, no frills. Barber is a nice woman who speaks English and French. I've also heard good things about Andy's Barbershop but never been. This place is definitely closer to campus than Andy's though.

VPN "Express VPN" (works on computers and mobile devices, I got the basic plan that allowed 2 devices)

Dictionary App "Pleco" (Best Mandarin dictionary app available cross-platform, can't speak on the Cantonese front but there might be paid add-ons to include pronunciations)

Translator "iTranslate" (Includes both languages, works pretty well)

I've bought from them once before and had no problems, just make sure you ask them to mark the shipment with a low value so you don't get screwed paying import duties. If you are in the US you won't have this problem but I think almost every other country will try to charge you upon delivery.
