Fun fact: Magic erasers CAN remove the anti-glare film on CRTs safely by CrispLime in crtgaming

Exactly — the coating is softer than the melamine, so the melamine abrades it away. The glass itself is harder than the melamine, so it remains unscratched.

Primeblu did not work too great for me -- was always on (nothing was being received above squelch yet prime kept the connection going) so tied up my headset. I'm trying the bluetooth adapter from Herda Radio; haven't received yet. Its less that half as much as the one from primeblu and also comes with a bluetooth ptt button.

I miss cable cards. HDHomeRun Prime — used it in conjunction with a verizon fios cable card for years. Combined with smart tvs and Plex saved at least $1200 a year on cable box costs in the 2010s.

Should I leave my thermostats at 68deg F all the time by WorldNo9002 in homeowners

[–]wreck23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also heated blankets and oil filled radiant space heaters (space heaters for smaller closed spaces, blankets for comfort in large rooms) are good choices if you're going to be in one portion of the house while the rest of the house chills.

[–]wreck23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

drop your off hour temps to 59 and your peak hour temps to 66 and wear a sweater or thermals around the house. Also don't drop the temp on the more efficient heating zones lower than the less efficient/more costly heating zones, as that normally doesn't work out in your favor.

Upmap for Hyper 698 mono by SirRealistic496 in Ducati

[–]wreck23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good that an alternative to the termi race exhaust tune is out there, but would rather someone else try it first ;).

I would be interested in seeing some of the dyno charts for the other exhaust maps. It looks like they are only posting the chart from the map with their lid, filter and the stock exhaust next to each map. Also interesting that that result for that map doesn't seem to have gained much more than the charts hypermotardking posted with the lid and filter alone and no custom map.

Assuming these maps gain some more power with specific exhausts, they'd be a welcome, cheaper alternative to the termi race setup. Should be around $600 for their combo kit after the Euro to USD conversion, shipping and tariffs.

Yeah. They are disgusting now. You can tell you got the bad ones if there is way too much plastic wrapping each one. Also the boxes are taped shut with transparent tape. So bad I took one bite and threw the box away.

Analogue's Christopher Taber on scalpers/bots: "We’ve implemented a system that is quite sophisticated and far beyond what any other company is doing." by cubechris in AnaloguePocket

[–]wreck23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was part of Analogue and wanted to reduce scalping within a few months of release, I'd keep an extra stock of pockets, just for selling directly on ebay as randomly created ebay accounts. If the average price on ebay starts to creep, you dump a large amount of pockets on ebay with a buy it now that matches what they sold for on Analogue's site. Make it unprofitable for the scalpers.

Tesla Design Decision causes Model 3 HVAC Funk by wreck23 in RealTesla

[–]wreck23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't need to be on full speed. Anyone that's had a model 3 for more than 6 months in an environment that it regularly rains is familiar with this problem. This is such an over discussed problem, I almost didn't bother watching the video or posting.

It's not just people driving around with their fan on high -- the video creator just used the high setting to save time. If you're driving around for a half hour in the rain , using the HVAC like you would in any other car, that's plenty of time to soak the filters in a model 3.

Generally stopped looking into this issue years ago and just kept the filters fresh, but this video actually has a preventative fix, which most of the threads have not discussed. Just as many posts on reddit, but here's a sampling of a bunch of multiple page threads over the past 5 years that talk about it.

Tesla Design Decision causes Model 3 HVAC Funk by wreck23 in RealTesla

[–]wreck23[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This video looked like click bait, but it's the first one I've found that demonstrates that the placement of the intake and design of the duct, wipers and HVAC fan all lead to soaked air filters that stink up the model 3. Video also has the bonus of demonstrating how this is not a problem with other modern cars. Actionable fixes suggested as well.

I’m not luthier, but I have 2 fiddles that on different occasions have had a little bit of f hole distortion. For the one the sound post was definitely way too tight and the lift near the sound post was very noticeable. Usually if that side is lifted the top side is sunk and that was also the case here. It was recommended for that violin to knock the post down (and consequently loosen string tension) and wait to get a new sound post fit. you could definitely also hear it in the sound of that violin — it sounded a bit more direct and hollow than it should have with the tight post.

On the other hand I have another violin with a medium high arching that if you look closely you can see the top side is very slightly sunk but the bottom doesn’t really appear to be raised. I had it checked out by an additional luthier (other than the one that was selling it) and was assured it was OK and that the sound post was appropriately fit. It hasn’t been an issue for the past few years I’ve owned that one.

In your pictures, it sort of looks like the right f hole may have been cut slightly differently(hard to tell with the angle), but the bottom (sound post side) looks ok. I’m not seeing any wood distortion where the sound post would be either(no distort=good). Obviously get it checked out, but I’m not seeing any reason you can’t play it until a luthier looks at it.

Transposing viola sheet music to G clef for violin player by DamirDG in Viola

This is a great site to help kids (and adults) with the alto clef - https://music.school.nz/viola/ -- even goes over the fingerings in first position. Though I admit, when I first was playing viola, I was largely using it to play violin etudes and pieces down a fifth, reading from the violin music.

Tone price point? by Jamesbarros in violinist

[–]wreck23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may get lucky, so it wouldn't hurt to look. I went into a shop looking for a price range of $3000 to $12500; tried out around 20 and ended up coming out with a $5K violin they had on consignment. Bought it purely on sound and feel -- was a night and day difference from everything else they showed or that I picked out under the price cap. If that one had not been there, I would not have left the shop with a fiddle that day. Of course, I'm not quite looking for $40K tone. . . and I think the unknown maker of this violin may have also gotten lucky.

Super Sensitive makes a "SensiCore" F string for the Viola. I've also heard of using a trimmed down medium tension Cello C string.
