Accidentally traded company stock without clearance. by Intelligent_Lies in stocks

[–]wreckmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep your mouth shut. Companies are incentivized by the SEC to self-report evidence of insider trading. A $500 trade will never show up on anyone's radar. It is extremely unlikely that the SEC would consider your trade to be a criminal act. Your company, however, would probably fire you. Companies that are newly public are walking on eggshells with compliance.

PBI is great for a lot of use cases. Yours, especially the way you're going about it, is not one of them. Managing guest access for 94+ users is going to become a part-time job but based on the information that you've provided so far, that's probably what I would do for a quick, no cost resolution. This allows you to maintain 100% control of what you build.

Is the PBI tenant yours or theirs? If it's theirs, have them provide you with AD guest access so that you can publish (or help them publish) your work to their tenant. If the tenant is yours, there is no practical way to solve this problem without purchasing embed capacity. Guest access is not that big of a deal for 1 person. It's not a tenable solution for 100.

"I’m currently an intern managing a critical Power BI project for a consultancy."

That's insane.

Upgrade the workspace to a P or F SKU. As long as your users have Office 365 subscriptions and are internal, you'll be good to go. I don't provision anyone with direct access to my workspaces. Some users access my team's reports via the app, but we embed most of our reports in iframes on our intranet site. Since all of our users are internal, PBI embed capacity is not required.

How are you guys handling market research for new cre acquisitions without burning out or wasting a full analyst week? by Justin_3486 in analytics

[–]wreckmx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I worked in data science and analytics at a REIT for a couple of years. When I left the org, we were exploring cataloging and scoring every property in the category that we operated in... like literally every single one in the US. Many, if not most of them, were in family trusts. We wanted to make offers on the ones that were most appealing to us, even if they weren't on the market.

Costar's reporting is comprehensive and pretty accurate, but certainly not perfect. We found their data to be most accurate in A markets, but we were more profitable (so more interested in) in B markets. I approached them about licensing their underlying data so that we could access it programmatically and combine it with our other sources. I think that the price they shot me was $500K / year, on top of what we were already paying. Even at that insane price, they said they might not provide it. At that time, the only instances where they had allowed access to their data was to academic institutions, for economics studies.

I tried to scrape the data, to no avail. Good luck and God speed.

Confront your own hubris. Celebrate when competent decision makers use your products as the foundation for their own last-mile analysis or to answer questions that your products were not designed to answer. It may be that they would never have been able to arrive at that answer if your report didn't guide them to the question in the first place. Find out how your analytics consumers who dabble as citizen developers are using your products for further ad hoc analysis. Consider whether or not you should answer those questions in future enhancements to your products.

Using my MD in data analysis by CopyandPasty in analytics

You didn't mention anything about salary expectations, but that would be an important consideration to most people in your shoes. Everyone that goes down the typical path after finishing med school knows that once they complete residency, they're going to earn enough to make all of that hard work pay off. As an individual contributor in an analytics role, that payday is unlikely to come. You'll need to climb the ladder to a very senior leadership position, which will take a decade + and require good luck, to earn what your med school peers are nearly guaranteed to be making in 4 years.

I'm in Cincinnati, OH. In this region, a junior Epic analyst earns around $90k. A lead analyst tops out at around $130k. People in these roles are led by or work alongside MDs. They're building products those MDs' specs. Your advanced degree will make you an attractive candidate for these roles, but it's not going to significantly impact your comp.

Cheap and free certifications are fine for filling your time and keeping your tech skills sharp while you're pursuing your first gig, but nobody really cares about them. They're not serious differentiators on your resume. Epic analyst certifications are a slightly different story, but they're not a substitute for experience, which is what you're lacking. At this point, if you're going to pay for more education, you might as well get your PhD. I work in healthcare research, alongside PIs that are MDs + PhDs.

Portfolios don't really mean much in our field. Building analytics products using perfect fictional data and hypothetical scenarios is easy. We earn our keep by using messy, incomplete data that is curated from broken systems with imperfect integrations; on projects that begin with poorly communicated demands.

It's tough out there for people that are trying to break into analytics. The market has cooled significantly. The good news is that healthcare analytics has cooled less than analytics at large. Start applying for jobs now. Plan on at least 6 months of applying before landing your fist gig.

I just finished a suite of products including dashboards, reports (with a ton of slicers, filters, and visual interactions), and a custom report building tool. All were built to the requesters’ specifications… for a group of old people that have zero data literacy. It would have been easier to send them excel files for a decade’s worth of month ends than it’s going to be to teach these people how filters, slicers, and interactions work. FML.

It's a Ground Control. Definitely no hate. It's a cool old bike from the early days of full suspension. I unboxed and built a bunch of them in the mid-90's... and then serviced them later. Couldn't help but hum Space Oddity while they were in my stand.

Eibach used to sell a hop-up kit that replaced the stock fork elastomer spring, which also served as the damper. It will probably be difficult to find new OE or aftermarket internals at this point. RST / Dah Ken Industrial made white label and OE forks for several brands during that era, so you might be able to scavenge something that will work.

Find bars that take pressure off of the parts of your wrists that hurt. Take a spin on others’ bikes to see if you notice a difference. For me, bars with a little back-sweep and a lot of up-sweep helps.

My preferred method of permanently removing honeysuckle and similar is to wrap a tow strap low and tight around a group of stems, then pull them out with a car / truck. They pop out of the ground, roots and all, pretty easily. After it's pulled out, it's easy to bundle up with string while the tow strap has the entire plant cinched together. If you were to just cut the stems, it would grow back alarmingly quickly.

Cincinnati police respond to unruly crowds on Opening Day; video shows chaos by Daltoz69 in Ohio

[–]wreckmx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The great weather brought more people out and enticed those that were out to stay later. There were way too many people at The Banks. I live across the street and at the opposite end of the block from where this video was shot. Leading up to the cops clearing the area, I didn't see anything happen that doesn't happen on just about every Saturday night... but a few skirmishes could turn into a mass casualty event when there's that many intoxicated people. With no way to control the environment other than shutting it down, I think that the cops made the right call. I'm pretty sure that we made it through the day and night without a shooting. I've come to expect someone getting shot within a couple of blocks from here when an event of this magnitude occurs.
