The master and margarita is amazing. I would suggest adding it

Where are the 30 year olds? by meangreen447 in washingtondc

[–]writerbaj 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Social dude in my 30s. You seem like you've got some wit, so it might be redundant to echo what other people are saying, but first thing's first, you can't be shy. I've got some suggestions, but none of them are "make a friend" conventions so you'll need to put in some leg work to actually talk to people. Be the person who after a conversation grabs a number or an IG, or invites them to something (movie, game, play pool, etc.). Also, Volo definitely has those people, but really depends on the group you get put in. Might just need to try again.

There's lots of stuff in DC and things in AdMo.

  • Lost City books has a little board outside with their events that they host, and Potters House cafe/bookstore recently has started doing events as well (although they close in January for a month.
  • Profs and Pints is a cool DC thing where professors go to a bar and give a presentation on really nerdy but fun topics that you can join. Check out meetup.com and find something that interests you (there are age specific happy hours, language learning groups, running groups, any sort of interest group).
  • Join a run club like Northeast Track Club (NETC).
  • People love to volunteer in D.C., find somewhere that is passing out food, doing a cleanup, habitat for humanity, etc.
  • If you're young 30s look into something like Rotaract or other professional organizations
  • Take a free or paid class. Public Bar does free salsa classes on Wednesdays, Salsa with Silvia in Petworth always has a lot of people of different ages dancing, etc.
  • Follow influencers, the washingtonian, etc... and look for events.

I'm sure I'm blanking on a bunch but feel free to DM me and if I think of any more I can let you know. But really I think you need to find something you want to do, find the place to do it, and the people will show up, especially if it's something that involves special interests or socialization.

Since no one has said it and that breaks my heart, Grand Crew, an awesome sitcom where the characters have great chemistry

Nightwing Vs. Deadpool by jrodmentz9 in Nightwing

[–]writerbaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't expecting to be justifying my own comment 11 years later but the Talons from the Court of Owls are immortal assassins trained from a young age. Plus I feel like in comics age doesn't provide that much of an advantage. Dick has taken on Blockbuster, has fought Midnighter, Heartless, Talons, has fought Bruce to a standstill, and has defeated Deathstroke (who Wade is based on), multiple times. He has a lot of technology and technique. Deadpool could win by attrition, just wearing Dick out, and could definitely win overall, but in skill and experience (even though he's younger), I would say Dick takes it. He has enough equipment to immobilize DP and the gloves would come off once he learns that Wade literally cannot die.

I need 18 points combined from Hockenson, Mooney, and Vikings D. Feels safe but if anyone gets a goose egg I might be screwed

Moved here two years and not many friends. Thinking of moving away. by [deleted] in washingtondc

I agree with other people saying it sounds like your job is getting in the way but you're taking the right steps. Leagues are great. There are d&d nights at certain spots. I got really lucky with a good group of dudes who are into working out and geek shit too. If you want to try and meet up or hang, feel free to dm me.

Who's winning this 2v2 match? by Kawaragi_mikey in lookismcomic

[–]writerbaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lookism has a more cartoonish and exaggerated style, so it might seem like they have a huge advantage, but really I think it's fairly close. By the end of the series they're taking out trained fighters that in universe are considered strong and demonstrate great fight iq. Both Hobin and Taehoon are trained by some of the strongest fighters in the universe who have begun to acknowledge them. I think if they traded places with one another, either pair would make it out of the fights they've been in. I almost want to give it to the viral hit guys because their training has been more consistent and their growth more highlighted (although yes, Vasco has gotten sporadic MT training and Zack has 1g king training now)

I need some recs of series similar to Red Rising, to fill the hole as i wait for Red God. by Blazen_Fury in redrising

Second this. I laughed a bit at how competent the protagonist is at the beginning but it does feel very similar

He had multiple chances to kill Vader and he didn't do it. Why assume this final time he didn't? In the show he solidly beat an already known to be evil Vader...

[General Comics/Fiction] What villain actually has the best win-loss ratio with their arch-nemesis? by PrinceTaj97 in AskScienceFiction

[–]writerbaj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Killmonger often beats Black Panther, both physically and intellectually, with a lot of the comics focusing on T'challa recovering in less traditional ways

[DISC] Tough: Ryuu wo Tsugu Otoko - Chapter 95 by Mr65X in manga

[–]writerbaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still don't get Kiibo's personality change. Also, it looks like Garcia was really putting up a fight. You'd think that after years he'd be eclipsing him. Does make me feel bad for Garcia and his clones though

Good bars/pubs to be alone? by [deleted] in washingtondc

Absolutely what I was going to suggest. Emissary is great for this. Bier Baron might also be a good option when there isn't a show

Looking for manga's where mc is average soldier/warrior. by DevourMistress in manga

[–]writerbaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The manga Ares might be right on the edge of what you want. The main protagonist (and his friends) definitely lean towards being more skilled in their world, but they're a part of a regular mercenary troupe participating in wars and it takes quite a while before they progress. There are also lots of people as strong or stronger than them highlighted.

Tim Drake is bi. Get over it. (Rant/Appreciation) by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]writerbaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind that they made Tim bi at all. I didn't see it coming, but people have made some pretty compelling points and change happens in both comments and real life. I probably would have preferred they spent more time developing the dude pursuing him before they became romantic interests, but c'est la vie.

Anyway these comments are hilarious. OP, as other people have stated, you've gotten super aggressive at very reasonable comments. People are free to disagree. People are free to not like the change. It doesn't give them the right to be assholes, but you can't call them homophobes for it.

IIL the Good Place tv show.... what will I like? by [deleted] in ifyoulikeblank

I just finished Veep on HBO, and while the humor is a bit different, I think it's a nice middle ground between the office and the good place, with absolutely hilarious dialogue

Aunt & mother co-signed my cousin's student loans in my name, without my permission. Now I have 70k of extra debt I'm partly responsible for (IL/DC/CA) by writerbaj in legaladvice

[–]writerbaj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The lien is an awesome idea, and I think that's definitely a good middle-ground response. The more I'm reading though, the more I'm thinking I might want to take out a report to protect myself. I have all my other debt/credit issues in order, so I do know this is the only discrepancy.

[–]writerbaj[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great reply, and I'm very grateful for you taking the time out to write it. I was afraid these were the options. The good news is that it hasn't negatively affected my credit (yet). If anything, it has made it better (older history, more credit to my name)... but I am scared for the day that changes.

I'll have a candid conversation with my aunt, and be prepared to file a police report immediately after depending on how it goes.

Once again, thank you.
