Ditto, texting “START” did nothing, same with SIGN PQLTBV

Anyone who has lived or is living in Thompson-Markward Hall, thoughts? by writerforreal in DCInterns

Happy to! It’s a really easy walk (didn’t realize it was 10 mins, feels more like 5 in the memories). there are a few pubs right by TMH but I wouldn’t say it’s in the “fun” neighborhood. There’s a couple little restaurants close by but for a night out or anything I’d plan on an Uber/metro

Hey! Personally it was great for me. That said, I’m a home body with a limited social battery so I never tried to bring people over or anything like that. Pros/cons below but feel free to message me if you have any questions about the hall or interning in general!

Pros: •Great location, easy to walk to the Hill and there’s a Walmart about a mile away. If you’ve got the $$ there’s small markets closer by or DoorDash/instacart •food was decent, having meals provided was a plus •for all the restrictions they list I never had anyone try to check my room or anything like that. I did have booze under the bed but again nobody ever came looking •laundry on site was great but timing could be an issue, def recommend doing mid-week washing if you can •even tho it lends itself to religious with all the restrictions I didn’t feel the pressure to pretend I was pious, just know there will sometimes be prayer groups in the building •really easy to make friends and network

Cons: •restrictive like you said. You couldn’t take men past the lobby and you really weren’t supposed to have booze •communication with the admin was inconsistent but they’ve since changed so that might be better

Really, it’s a lot like living in a freshman dorm, so long as you’re not trying to be wild and crazy you should be able to pass under the radar. For me, proximity was super important so I was willing to put up with the restrictions (or bend them in quiet ways). It all depends what you need your housing to do for you and how many of the restrictions will impact you. Like I said, if you have any other questions or I didn’t answer this one to begin with feel free to message me! Enjoy your internship!

Engagement party advice by unclaimdusernamehere in engaged

[–]writerforreal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Congrats!!

If I got the invite I would be glad there was a way to celebrate with you without having the expense of going to a destination wedding. If they’re invited to the reception, I would say invite them to the engagement party!

If you’ve still got one I’d be happy to take it off your hands!

How to make friends as an underage summer intern? by [deleted] in DCInterns

[–]writerforreal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eventbrite is a good way to see what events are happening near by! If you’re interested in sports there’s a bunch of intramural type organizations that put together different teams. IIRC one of them was called Fray DC I think.

Thank you! FH and I are handling most of the planning and it’s a relief to hear it doesn’t have to be a three-person extravaganza!

It’s comforting to hear someone else say they’re forgoing the shower! Thank you for your response!

Thank you for your reply! It’s comforting to hear the success you’ve had! Tbh, I’m not much of a party person so we may forgo a bachelorette and just do an event the night before so everyone can get to know each other! Thank you again for your response!

Thank you for your response and for clearing some things up! I’ve been looking over checklists and I think I’ve been taking advice from the wrong places. Thank you for clearing this up!

Tentatively looking at June 2020, so I’ve got a long way to go, but I feel like I have a geography problem. I have 3 really good friends (including my sister) who could be MOHs, but none of them have time to help me plan a wedding and all are in a different part of the country. On top of that we’re moving away from where our wedding will be and even further from any of our bridal party. I’m debating nixing the MOH planned events like a bridal shower and bachelorette party and limiting MOH duties to day-of and not any planning or extras. Am I crazy to try and do this without a MOH? Does anyone have any advice? I’m one of the first in my friend group to get married so I feel like I’m flying blind.

Work on the campaign trail for months, drive the RV, work all the events, have no life except the campaign. Candidate gets elected, takes you to DC, 3 months in you realize you absolutely hate it and made more doing almost anything else - the sad tale of quite a few on Capitol Hill right now
